Great band. They sort of remind me of an edgier Db's. Letter From an Occupant is one of the best pop songs I've heard in probably ten years. It's just killer. I hope to nab the new disc soon... |

"twin cinema" is sounding pretty good.
I just can't get over how cool Zumpano was. It was tough going through High School without anyone with the same attachments to that band. |

I only just bought Electric Version the other day and have been playing the heck out of it. Going to buy both Twin Cinema and Mass Romantic from the Matador website (only $10 each!). This is kind of like finding buried musical treasure for me!

I absolutely LOVE Dan Bejar's work on each album. I could listen to "Jackie" and "The Ballad of a Comeback Kid" all day
Hey fumanbru, hopefully they will add the Peg to the tour dates after the Minny date! (saw your post on the NP board) |

That would be nifty. I don't get out to many shows but that's one I'd definitely be at. I stopped in at several shops today with the intent of getting twin cinema but damned if nobody had it! Have to try again tomorrow...

Uggh, well I'm glad someone enjoys him. I for one can' stand his songs. Or maybe it's just his voice. I don't know

OK, finally found Twin Cinema. After a couple listens in the car Twin Cinema and Sing Me Spanish Techno are stand-outs and a few others sounded real good. One thing I love about this band is the almost completely unpredictable melodies. Really inventive... |

?? I thought everyone like Bejar lol.... different strokes for different folks I guess. I just like the originality and catchiness and the hooks and turns his songs take. So you don't even like "Jackie, Dressed in Cobras"? |

bejar is awesome, but i think it's carl who turns bejar's input into pop glory. every bejar song, consequently, is fuckin gold.
i especially like how carl gets neko (or whoever the female singer is at the time) to sing along with bejar, for it shows the hidden great melody that bejar created but doesn't necessarily project clearly himself.
i get the idea that carl sits and listens to the skeleton of a song that bejar gives him to work with, and he instantly hears the hidden hook that bejar probably doesn't even know is there. then he constructs a flawless sing-along pop song, and bejar hears it and is like "holy shit! I wrote that?!"

I'd have to agree with that for the most part except for maybe his Mass Romantic songs. Bejar's band Destroyer is much different than the NP's |

First listen to Mass Romantic tonight after my package of gold arrived while I was at work. I'm going to make myself wait to listen to Twin Cinema for at least a day or two I think. Was hard deciding which one to listen to first.

I like Dan Bejar's songs with the New Pornographers (well, okay, I don't always know which ones they are, but I like pretty much all of their songs), but I checked a Destroyer album out from the library once, and it didn't do much for me. I have heard one Destroyer song that I really liked, though. I think it was called "No Cease Fires," and Neko actually covered it at a solo show.

I've just been listening to Twin Cinema for about a week, but I am really impressed by the drums. They sound particularly amazing to me on several of the songs. Well recorded, impressive playing, and just overall great sound to the kit.
Going to get AC Newman's solo cd next, but I definitely will need to take a break from these guys as I am having to consciously stop listening to them some because it has been primarily all I have listened to since this thread started.

And another thing: why the hell does Electric Version get such a (relatively) bad rap? I love it. Heard it more than the other two so far, but I think it is fantastic, catchy, and I have a hard time rating it much lower than the other two.
