The Auld Triangle is by Brendan Behan. This Frank/Glen Hansard session was on Irish Radio - there used to be a link to it which Bazza posted, it is probably obsolete by now.

What, Frank doing The Auld Triangle? That's amazing!!

..So much so, that I did a little bit of quick researching! Only link to that session I can find is at Last.FM-you have to join to use it, but it's free. Here's the link if you want to check it out (I did'nt sign up):

And here's an old topic on the subject!

I will compile all this info you guys posted and come up with a more definitive list, plus yet more questions to be answered.

Thanks so much for your help, guys! This will make a solid resource for the site.

Carl, is that photo from the aforementioned July 2003 session?

yes, it was indeed "blister in the sun" that Frank joinned Gordon for at the end of the show (i wasn't there, but have it mentioned in my records.) [Oct 9 2002 - Troubadour, W. Hollywood]

Here are a few more covers that I don't recall seeing mentioned, but most probably were already:
Fear (One Step Beyond) - Harry Lubin {kicked off 1993 shows}
War of the Satellites - The Venutres {followed "Fear" at 1993 shows}
Sister Isabelle - Del Shannon
This Is Where I Belong - The Kinks
Constant Sorrow Man - traditional?
The Big Bang Theory - John Devries of Agitpop/Cellophane {Frank with Mike Watt.. might've been written for Watt?, therefore maybe not a true cover, strictly speaking}
In the Year 2525 - Zager and Evans {sometimes done partially in the middle of "Los Angeles"}
Particle Man - TMBG {Frank guesting with They Might Be Giants, September 19, 1996}
Spy - TMBG {Frank guesting with They Might Be Giants, September 19, 1996}
Sheena Is A Punk Rocker - Ramones {with Graham Parker at the January 2002 California shows}

[btw, i've searched and i've searched for a recording of "sheena" by Frank & Mr. Parker, with no luck. anybody..?]

Other very short teases Frank has done mere seconds of, probably not worth mentioning:
Rumble - Link Wray
Dog's Life - The Fall
That's Entertainment - The Jam
Istanbul - TMBG

I don't know if he has done it, but he should cover Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen. Simply because it's been covered by everyone else. Here's a list:

Jeff Buckley
Rufus Wainwright
Bono
Ari Hest
A couple others.
He should definitely cover it.

John cale also covered it...
Well, for me the fact that so many people covered it should be for him the main reason NOT to cover it... Think Black, man!

I was under the impression that "Everyone is Wrong" was a Lyle Workman composition... though I can't confirm that.

And also:

Road Movie To Berlin - TMBG

Pigface:

It's not really a cover, more of an appearance (as Black Francis). Pigface is basically music made by people tripping on LSD, for people tripping on LSD. The songs are on "The Best Of Pigface" double CD set. Pigface is a collaborative project that has had over 100 artists perform on it.

Liner Notes:

Ogre (& The Six Million Dollar Man) Ogre interview with Jason Pettigrew with backing from Black Francis, Roberto Santiago & Martin Atkins in the background. Notes: ogre interview from Lean Juicy Pork (interview disc) spilling into....

Dog (Francis/Atkins): Black Francis & Roberto Santiago - guitars, Martin Atkins, drums, Lee Popa - shouting. Notes: This was recorded during a Killing Joke tour in 1992? Opening for the Pixies. I asked Black Francis and Roberto Santiago if they'd like to join Pigface - we set up some equipment on a jai-alai court in San Sebastian and messed around for awhile - later that night (as the hotel bar closed) I recorded the adding machine sounds used on Murder Inc.

---

No offense to Pere Ubu, but how come Pigface didn't open for The Pixies when I saw them in 1992? That would have made the best show I've ever seen even more untouchable! Pigface in their heyday between 1992-1996 put out some incredible stuff.

Hi everyone, I am trying to consolidate this list of COVERS. (I will be starting new threads for collaborations). Let me know what you think. I need help with the items with the question marks & to make sure that all collaborations are not in here... Also just in general if you could look it over and make sure I captured everything correctly. Also, if you are making a future contribution please make sure you read the ENTIRE thread to make sure you are not duplicating responses...

The format on this looks a little funky here because I copied it from Excel... I will present the nicely formatted spreadsheet to Dean & Brian once we get everything squared away.

Thanks....

If the distinction is between a collaboration and a cover, then certainly its a collaboration. But i'd say that yeah, he's working with another artist, so thats a collaboration in my book.

It was basically a warm up, no vocals, just coming in and out. I wouldn't say its a cover.

"Coming Into Los Angeles" is by Arlo Guthrie, not Woody Guthrie.

I still don't think so. A collaboration means that two artists are working together to make something new. A cover means that one band/artist is taking another's song and does a new, different version of it. I wouldn't list what the Catholics would do to "All the Tired Horses" as either. But hey, these are your threads, so do whatever you think is correct.

Thanks FBC! The updated list reflects your changes...

One question is the song title Fear (One Step Beyond) or are Fear and One Step Beyond separate songs (please see items in bold). Thanks.

Thanks FBC!

If someone could please clarify my question in bold a few posts above this, that would be helpful.

I am also posting a few questions about the song titles/artists in ??? here and below this.

I did some internet searching and found a song called Lucas McGraw by Petra. Is this the same song? Thanks to http://www.petrarocksmyworld.com/.

Lucas McGraw
Words and music by Bob Hartman
Based on Titus 2:7

Lucas McGraw, what's come over you?
We're beginnin' to think you're touched
We heard you got religion
Ya ain't been 'round to see us much
Ya threw away your corncob pipe and your jug of moonshine brew
And we hear you ain't been doin' all those things you used to do

Lucas McGraw what's come over you?
You're shavin' every day
You ain't been chasin' women and you kissed your wife today
You went to church last Sunday and ya shook the preacher's hand
And they say you been talkin' 'bout a home beyond this land

Lucas McGraw, what's come over you?
You never cuss no more
We hear you ain't been feudin', you hung your rifle by the door
Ya take a bath each Sunday, if you need it or not
And ya go to work on Monday even when it's hot

Lucas McGraw what's come over you?
We're beginnin' to think you're touched
We hear ya got religion, ya ain't been 'round to see us much
But ya know we've all been wonderin'
If what you got just might be real
And all the while we're laughin'
Is it really God, is it really God
Is it really God you feel?

Is Constant Sorrow Man really the Man of Constant Sorrow on One More Road for the Hit?

If it is, the lyrics on that are different than the lyrics on the traditional song which which leads me to believe this is an original?

The "traditional" lyrics are below:

Man Of Constant Sorrow
Lyrics: Traditional
Music: Traditional

Played by Jerry Garcia with David Grisman in 1991, and much earlier with the Sleepy Hollow Hog Stompers and with David Nelson in the 1960s. More recently played by Phil Lesh & Friends in 2005.

These are the lyrics from the Garcia/Grisman "Pizza Tapes" recording:

I am a man of constant sorrow
I have seen trouble all my days
I bid farewell to old Kentucky
The State where I was born and raised

For six long years I've been in trouble
No pleasure here on earth I've found
For in this world I'm bound to travel (note 1)
I have no friends to help me now

You may bury me in some deep valley (note 2)
For many years where I may lay
Then you may learn to love another
While I am sleeping in my grave

Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face you'll never see no more
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore

Notes
(1) in the 1960s, Garcia sang "... bound to ramble"
(2) in the 1960s, Garcia sang something like:

Thanks to whitegum.com for the lyrics
