Collaborations is a whole different thing IMO. But we can compile them as well:
Chinese Firedrill - with Mike Watt on Ball Hog or Tugboat Big Bang Theory - with Mike Watt on the E-Ticket Ride ep Run - with Gordon Gano 119 Years Ago - with Reevers Gabrels Jewel - id. Scary Monsters & Fashion - with Bowie live Letters From The Wasteland - Wallflowers song

It's ain't obscure: it's a very good song on a very good album. I bought it without knowing it was an all star CD and I used to play it lot.
You can't say it's a cover. Run with Gordon Gano is not a cover too. It was written for Frank to sing it.

I don't know anything about it. I don't even know if it's a cover by Frank on a tribute album, or if he's just singing vocals on a Graham Parker record. In fact I don't even know who Graham Parker is... The thing is there's an album called "Piss & Vinegar - the songs of Graham Parker" and Frank has something to do with it.

I know I'm off topic, but the collaborations thing reminded me of an old Dutch radio session around 1991 with Black Francis, backed up by the Dutch band Claw Boys Claw. I only remember an awesome version of Into The White, half of which I still have on an old audio tape, recorded directly from that transmission. Does anybody know what other songs they played? Or even better: does anybody have mp3's of that session?? |

can you count:
Beat on the Brat - Ramones Nightclubbing - Iggy Pop Crazy Train - Sabbath? Everyone Is Wrong - Reid Paley? Ballad of Lucas McGraw - ?
also he performed another song live with Gordon Gano, which I fooked up and did not record. Ask Floop, he was there, Troubador.... Also he supposedly performed with Pigface (see "Welcome To Mexico, Asshole" cd liner), but I've never been able to resolve that.

Eveyone is Wrong was written by Lyle Workman. As for the Claw Boys Claw, Frank also does The Happening with them.

As for covers: The Black Rider, Six Sixty Six, I'm Going Down, SSMVGD, Sister Isabel, Song of the Shrimp, Snake Oil to name a few. The Euro Nadine single has another that I cannot spell.

There is a studio acoustic version [FB w/ E.D.Feldman] from the TMBG Hello Recording Club sessions, 1993.

Bongiorno my friend, http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/pechogrande/
Okay, the computer is having a cow uploading files, but this week I will put all the weird FB covers I have there. Right now there's Beat on the Brat and 2 others. I wish I had an easier way to share.
**** Okay, yahoo groups only lets you upload files of a certain kilobyte.... Say does that FB FTP thing work yet? |

Other collaborations:
119 Years Ago-Reeves Gabrels (Frank co-wrote it, too!). Jewel-Reeves Gabrels (Frank provides backing vocals, along with David Bowie and Dave Grohl!). Run-Gordon Gano.

Hey Matto, I managed to grab your files, but Frank ain't singing anything on the 1st one ("Crazy Train")! It's only a short clip of a radio DJ introducing The Man.
The second one is indeed FB performing 4O seconds of a goofy acoustic version of "Beat On The Brat" (with some girl singing along).
The third one, "The Ballad of Lucas McGraw" (?) is even shorter, live & acoustic, and might very well come from there:

Frank also joined Placebo for a rendition of Where Is My Mind? In Paris. As I'm sure most folk already know. :) |

With regards to the Graham Parker Tribute record (PISS & VINEGAR) there's a track I produced of "Local Girls" with Frank alongside Pat Dinizio (Smithereens) and Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart). We also cut a version of "Discovering Japan" by Frank Black backed by my group (Jon Tiven's Ego Trip) which for some reason was not used on the album---don't ask me why, no one tells me anything---but eventually it might find its way onto some future FB release.
Also.....when we did the Arthur Alexander Tribute which has "Old John Amos" and the duet with Gary U.S. Bonds of "Go Home Girl," I cut a version of "I Love You So" (a previously unreleased song Arthur and I wrote the day after his legendary Bottom Line gig) with Frank, Ronnie Spector and Felix Cavaliere, but the label (Razor & Tie) thought we already had enough Frank on the album and left it as a duet with Ronnie and Felix. Again, perhaps some time that will see the light of day because it's very good.
bye, Jon Tiven |

Just found this on The Frames official website:
Frank Black & Glen Hansard
The Shrimp Song The Ol' Triangle * John The Revelator
Recorded on July 14 2003. Broadcast on July 15 2003.
* I think the right spelling is 'The Auld Triangle'. Another Irish (traditional) song popularized by the Pogues in the mid-80s.
