Good luck getting home too... it looks like all the buses are not working and I am guessing the underground is not working as well.
Now it looks like on the map there were seven bombings...
Yeah thats gonna be fucked up as alot of people commute to London from way out of the city.... and taxis are seriously expensive in the capital!

I only heard about this before 1.00. Hope all forum members in the London area are okay. It was going to happen eventually, I suppose, although the oraganisation that carried this out has not been confirmed yet, so we can't just assume it was Al Queda. Pretty shocking. It's interesting that it happens when Bush is in Britain, although of course they could have attacked the G8 summit. I wonder if the fact that Tony Blair was away from London was meant as some kind of 'Don't let your guard down' kind of message. I thought that it probably was'nt Al Queda, because they'd probably carry out a bigger attack, but then I heard there were 4 bombs. And of course, it's a blessing that more people wer'nt killed. So, you know, it could be. Let's just hope that better security measures are taken in future. |

From the Guardian, 2.24 p.m.: "Suddenly, the terrible scale of today's attack becomes clear. Ambulance sources suggest 23 people have been killed at King's Cross, nine at Edgware road, seven at Aldgate, two at Russell Square. There are hundreds - possibly more than a thousand - injured."

I heard only two people have been confirmed dead. In any case, RIP, and condolences to the families. |

A friend of mines aunt works at the foreign office down in London - she was evacuated and sent 10 miles out of London at 8 this morning.
All sounds too fucking suspicious.

i remember sitting, staring at the towers a few years ago....and I know all of the UK is doing that very thing....makes me entirely ill and I can't yet get my head around the fact that this may soon be a commonplace action given the climate that's been created in the middle east....
so sorry to those who now must feel that anxiety and grieve. not enough words/tears

These are the same dance-steps as before World War II, a lot of people had a hard time believing Hitler would have burned the Reichstag just to ride draconian antiterrorist legislation in on the back of public indignation, aiming for the point where you don´t need public indignation anymore to pass whatever you want. It´s one of the oldest tricks in the book: scare the bejeesus out of the people and they´ll willingly accept your preconceived ´solutions´ to the chaos you´ve created. We had it in Madrid last year and you´ll see it in the next couple days - the suits on teevee saying, "This is what we have to do" waving copies of asskicker legislation that has all the hallmarks of being drafted a long time beforehand.

The bus that expoloded is the bus that my friend catches to uni every morning, this morning he decided to go buy DVD's indtead and go to uni late. I have been crying mostly since I found this out.
Today two muslim girls at my university told my asian friend not to walk with them because people would think she is muslim, they say people have already started staring. It makes me sick, people are so fucking stupid. Islam is not the problem. |

They blanked out one womans face because it was taken before the emergency services got there and that would be a fucker of a way for the family to find out.
Other than that I think not. I went into town and a few of us went to a bar where we knew there were TV screens. They turned the sound off after a while and put a song on, left the pictures of the destruction up. Everyone looked a bit incredulous so I went to the bar..
me: Whats with the turing off of the sound? he: er, well it's been on for three hours me: so? do you not think thats a bit disrespectful? *uncomfortable eye contact* he: I'll turn it back up then

I heard about the bombings this morning before I got ready for work.
Starmekitten....I got chills when I read your post about your friend deciding to buy DVD's instead of boarding one of the buses that was bombed.
Parking is tough at the hospital I work, and I normally drive to a park and ride and take a shuttle bus the rest of the way. I was so freaked out, I drove and paid to park at the hospital.
My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families and everyone touched by this awful tragedy. |

Feel terrible for all the killed and injured Brits. Immensely! Thanks for standing with us against these cowards but I feel bad because if you hadn't then maybe this doesn't happen today or ever. So thanks again for the backup. If the blitz couldn't get you down this will be a tragic day but I cannot wait to see the response. Good or bad we are in it together.
Just an opinion, but if we had taken care of these assholes right after they hit the African embassies or the USS Cole, don't forget WTC episode I; then things might have shaken out a lot differently. One cruise missile into Sudan was not going to get it done.
FBI is still smarting from their inability to check out the flight training lead from the Minneapolis field office.
Did you exchange? Can you Mr. Grieves?

Erebus, I don't mean to be inflammatory, and please don't take this as an attack, but in what way are you part of the "solution" for the problems caused by whatever race/creed/religion/party/club/neighborhood/etc you're associated with?

The seeds of this grow in the schools of Cairo and Islamabad. How many of those seeds are growing up named Osama or Saddam? How many mosques are used as arms caches? Mullas as cell leaders? Islamic ambulances as attack vehicles? Islam must solve this at its roots or it will be solved for them, most likely by turning their own tactics against them. |

No offence taken. How many on the left feel justified in blaming Christians for the excesses of Christianity? We cannot reach into the bowels of Islam to cure what ails it. Islam is running out of time. |

There's a word for cultures and societies unwilling to temporarily trade their freedom for longer term, albeit temporary, security: extinct. |

He's fine thanks Toba, he was right in the middle of it when it went down and was taken to a building to shelter with a lot of the shocked and scared people. Then he found out the bus time and number and freaked the hell out. I think it is just hitting him now and he has gone home to sleep. There was a good amount of time I couldn't get hold of him, and I love this guy to pieces he's one of my closest friends and the panic was unreal, I just want to hug the little fucker and I probably would go down there to do so if it weren't still such a mess.
Simon too, I'd hug him, I was well worried.
My cousin, she slept through the whole thing.... I think it's a family thing.
Best wishes to all those again with friends and family down that way xx

Erebus.... what the fuck are you talking about???
This has been brewing for a while. Brits have been expecting this for a long time. Your last sentence is the same as saying 'If you are British and you did not try to prevent the war in Iraq and halt the problems caused by Israel, then you are the problem.'
I have seen this coming for a long time... and as much as its disgraceful, think about the consequences of our actions in Afghanistan / Iraq where hundreds if not thousands of innocent people have lost their lives. Can you see why people have done this??

This is an attitude echoed by many people today. We knew it was coming, we knew there would be something and we knew we couldn't stop anyone determined enough.
I think, I have to add at this point, kudos to the emergency services and the people of London for the way they reacted. There was calm and order amidst the chaos. Did anyone see the footage of the people on the tube? the window broke the train crashed and people queued to escape out of the window.

Unfortunately I live in a country where BBC is banned so I cannot see the news as it is happening.... as much as I give shit to our fucked up government, I wish the best for the people caught up in this dreadful situation... people don't deserve to go through this wherever they are.
