I'm definitley stoked, Carolyn!

BRING IT ON, ROMERO

I love horror flicks, and even though zombie flicks aren't my preferred kind, Romero is the man when it comes to that genre

I love horror movies too.
Unfortunately there are so many crappy horror movies to wade through.
I like when I'm actually scared or freaked out by one.
What is your preferred kind Alex?
I tend to like ghost-type ones, something supernatural and not based on new technology...

I have read the reviews and pardon me a moment but COME ON! I can't fucking wait I truly can't, Romero is my zombie GOD. I've been wary about getting over excited because it's been a while since he attacked the zombie films and I was terrified (please forgive me) that he might have lost his touch, but I'm looking forward to this zombie evolution slant, and I like that he's kept them old school they're zombies, they're not athletes after all.

Stoked! I'm a bouncing off the walls with excitement here.

I am not afraid of ghosts but moving corpses scare me.

And I agree, they should not be athletes. A re-animated body which has gone through stages of decomposition would not be very coordinated.

I agree that they should not run. This is exciting news. Is it supposed to be linked to any of his others plot-wise?

I just watched a trailer for it. It looks OK.

you know, there just isn't enough splatter comedy about, have you ever seen 'bad taste' monkey? I doubt this one will measure up, Peter Jackson is a damned genius.

I had me a moment then, thought maybe the man had gone back to his roots because there was always talk of a sequel. Brain dead (or The Dead alive) as well.. fine films..

I too am eagerly awaiting LOTD (Land of the Dead, NOT Lord of the Dance). Night of the Living Dead still gives me the chills. Just the cheap low budget organ music at the beginning over the cheap low budget grainy shot of the car approaching the cemetery is enough to send me out of my skin. When Dawn of the Dead hit theatres I was 7, so of course I didn't see it until quite a few years later, but the tv commercials alone tore my fragile nerves asunder. Day of the Dead wasn't that big of a deal...wasn't really promoted, and just kind of vanished after a short dismal release. I actually never saw it until about 1998. Wasn't very impressed. But the first two...my God! And horror movies don't scare me, but like someone said earlier, moving corpses are very unnerving. I hope this one is good and gory! Remember the scene at the start of DOTD when all the tenents are locked in the basement eating each other and the SWAT come in to shoot them? Ewwww! The debautched creepiness! I first thought this new one should be Dusk of the Dead, but then again, I'm not George A.

Monkey, HMV, music zone and fop should carry those titles, meet the feebles is the hard one to find.

Dawn of the dead is just .. oh I can't. I love it too much to be objective, oh Carolyn, bless you for this thread.

Meet The Feebles? I haven't heard of that one. Is that Jackson?

I wanted to try before I buy because I am not sure how good they will be (I know you love them but I have to REALLY love a film to buy it unless it's really cheap).

Whenever I watch zombie movies I'm always plotting what I would've done or wouldn't have done...
I find myself yelling at the screen, Oh my god what are you doing, are you stupid? etc.

Hahaha, me too. More so with zombie films than with any other horror genre. I think it's because the people in them are so bloody stupid at times. Plus the situation is a challenge I would kind of relish in a perverse way.

Carolyn-
I agree that supernatural-type films are my favorite. The Exorcist has got to be one of my favorite horror flicks of all time. I also dug The Ring a lot the first time I saw it. There's an awful lot of cheese to sift through, but I have to admit that I get some kind of amusement out of campy, crappy horror flicks sometimes. Or campy yet really good horror flicks like Evil Dead. or Dead Alive!

Zombies are definitely freaky though...there is something viscerally unnerving about seeing corpses slowly move then come to life, especially if they hunger for human body parts.

I was so frightened of the dead as a boy. The first dead person I saw was a great uncle of mine. This was at his funeral and I was 8 nearing 9. We were in the funeral chapel, which looked literally like something out of a horror movie. There were rows of pews, it was dark (except for the eerie candle light), and an old lady played the organ in the corner behind the scary flower arrangement...and dead (no pun intended) center was the casket holding Uncle Walter! I could see his profile illuminated with a greenish hue. That was it! I knew he was gonna come alive and get us! My grandfather grabbed my hand and forced me down the aisle to get a better glimpse of the evil corpse. I fought with fear, squirming in my grandfathers grasp. My grandfather wouldn't have any of my shenanigans and ordered me to straighten up. We got to the casket. Horror froze my tender boyish veins. Well, boy veins, not 'boyish' as I am...was...a boy, not a girl. I just wanted to clear that up. Anyway, I came face to face with the dead body of which I was certain would turn this funeral into a fiasco of death. It looked horrible. It looked dead. After I managed to make it through the chapel service, we all had to file past the coffin for "one last look". This was when I knew it would rise and feast. But Uncle Walter remained dead. Next we had to drive in a processional to the local cemetery. Once we were there, we all reconviened at the gravesite for more heartstopping terror...just more chances for the corpse to revive! I just wanted to leave! The minister then invited us to bow our heads to pray. Fat chance at that, buddy! No way in HELL was I gonna take my eyes off that coffin! I knew the thing within was just waiting to seize a moment like a prayer when everyones guard was down!
The casket was perched over the 6 foot deep hole on a lowering mechanism, and the top was adorned with a huge arrangement of flowers. Elastic straps ran over the top of the casket (under the floral arrangemnt) which kept it harnessed to the elevating contraption. Well, while we were praying and my eyes were pinned to the coffin just waiting for it to open, something happened...Uncle Walter really did start to open the lid from within! The dead really was coming back to life and trying deperatley to escape in a famished rage! Where would I run?! Certainly this would trigger hands to begin popping up from the soil to grab me! I was doomed!!!
What had really happened was that one of the elastic bands strapped to the coffin had for some reason or another snapped, causing flowers to fly into the air and a loud 'thud' as it slapped the side of the body box. My tender boyish heart leaped into my throat, and I took a good 4 foot jump backwards. Alas, no evil Uncle Walter. This event in my life did nothing, however, but reinforce my dread of the dead. After the funeral we all went and ate lunch at Denny's.

The campy crappy splatter schlock horror comedy horror films are excellent, I love them, the evil dead trilogy is just cinematic gold, yes all of them, from the first 'serious' one, to the comedy remake to the pure joy of the utterly camp army of darkness. Brucey C is perfect 'B movie' fodder and has the bulgy eyes for the films as well, his scared face slays me.
Then the Jackson films, Bad Taste, the way it was made, is so impressive, and the film is hilarious, ditto Brain dead.
And films like basket case, just gold to me, there's not enough I say.

Ack, I wasn't impressed, I built it up too much in my head I think.
I know these movies don't have very much plot but this one was yawn.
And not quite enough actual zombie violence.

Vampire's Kiss was a strange film indeed - a metaphorical black comedy about addiction, pretty much.

John Carpenter's Vampires...I would lump that in the same stinking pile of crap as Dracula 2000. A horrendous disgrace to the genre. Vampsploitation, if you will {:
