How long do we wait before considering it lost, Mike?
Got Nathan's and Tre's today. I have all but Daniel's. Now listening to Nathan's. I'm at track 9 and I already want to buy CDs of the first 8 bands... I'm loving it.

I'd say consider it lost since yours arrived here in less than 3 days, Denis.

I remember that Nathan's last mix CD inspired me to buy a Sugarplastic album (the only one I could ifind on Amazon). Good to see them represented on his again, even if it is on the album I bought. Not had chance to listen to it yet because it only arrived today.
Denis, I would say leave it a little while longer, just in case. No point in you spending more for no reason. I still have others to come yet anyway.

I got Nathans today and I think I only have one more to come. I didn't want to write any reviews until at least a couple of people got mine, it didn't seem fair to me somehow.
Denis you wouldn't believe how relieved I am it arrived, when I took them to the post office the woman behind the counter said "You want to send them looking like that??
Yes post office lady, yes I do! she wasn't impressed.

Hey Denis, if it's not there within a few days - say Tuesday - let me know and I'll send you another one.
If there's anybody else who doesn't have mine yet, I'd like to know. They were packed ugly (don't believe every pen that bills itself as permanent and non-smearing), but I was hoping I had prettied 'em up just enough to make it.
I'm pretty sure I've heard about all but three arriving at my place back home, hopefully they'll be there by the end of next week. Apologies to all once again for not keeping up with all of you in terms of discussion; my job has me all over the place and I've had difficulty trying to make time for close, open listening to new music. Thanks to everyone involved, though - I love the idea of these swaps and they just keep getting better every time.

Sorry Nic, my fault. I did read your post but forgot to answer. That was nice of you but I have no reason to make you pay for 2 CDs + postage, it's not that expensive from France to the UK (I think I paid around €1.50). I'll send them again if they don't surface.

my hand writing is terrible :(
there's actually a song missing from my mix I realised as soon as I had burned them all, so I have to change the art work tracklist thing before I mail it you, so it'll be this evening.

I might start a thread on handwriting. Some people's CD packages and notes showed most compelling handwriting and penmanship. Stuff writer geeks like myself find interesting.

Does we gots a tracklisting for LBF's disc? I looked through the thread and while many of you seem to know what's on it I can't find a list and only recognize three or four songs. I'd just like to be able to reference titles when I post comments.

Mix: Cripsy Water Favs: Jorane - "Battyum 2," Syzygys - "Such a Face?," The Slackers - "Shankbon" Least Favs: Leo.fx, Evergreen - "Whip Cream Bottle" Comments: The only reason that the Evergreen song is on there is b/c i woul've expected more from that pedigree. Leo.fx sounded really interesting, but the track disappointed. Just about every other song on the mix i REALLY enjoyed. That Jorane track in particular blew me away. And it is ALWAYS good to see Watt well represented. The horns stuff, like the Catholics on your first mix, really knocked my socks off, and i will have to buy records from both the Slackers and Syzygys - which do you recommend to start?

Review: Nathan's Mix Favs: "Polly Brown" - The Sugarplastic, "She's Leaving Town" - The Corn Sisters, "You Mustn't Kick It Around" - Erin McKeown Least Favs: "This Charming Man" - Sloan, "Smut" - Tom Lehrer Comments: Nathan has the clever pop song market covered with his mixes. TMBG and their ilk are very well represented, which is a great thing for me. I also have a soft spot for all things XTC/Dukes of Stratosphere/Andy Partridge, so basically Nathan's mix delivers a lot of what i like. The only songs i really couldn't get into were the two listed above, Lehrer just annoys me and the Sloan track was just sloppy, even though i do like them a lot. All in all a great mix.

Thanks for all the help identifying them Little Black Francis tunes, here are some thoughts:
Before even getting to the opening, just allow me to say that I have not the words to describe just how I felt upon first glance at the disc. I saw the words and thought, “who in the hell would know about that?” Then I realized where you had figured it out – I’d kinda forgotten I put that there. In a flash it became obvious that the character depicted in bold colour must be Mr. Sinister. I honestly know nothing about comics; I can identify Batman, Superman, etc. but that’s the extent of it. If only you knew the whole story behind what you put on the disc...alas, it’s one of those stories which only really holds appeal to the small circle that experienced a particular moment. That opener is an interesting recording, almost sounds like a busker with the hints of background conversation throughout. Only after hearing the full disc did it seem to me that the first bunch of songs were kind of setting the stage for the detonation lurking behind them. The Will Oldham tune was most impressive; quite vulnerable in sound, but some of the words manage to sound more assured than the manner in which they are delivered. You reminded me that I’ve been meaning to hear more of his stuff for quite some time now. Of the very few Elliot Smith songs I’ve heard, this one probably rates as the one I enjoy the least – too much drama for me! I confess to an inexplicable impatience for fragile folks with their guitars. Just as I was getting ready to slam a bottle of whiskey to some of these heartwrenchers, along came the Rapture track. Drones, drips, dregs of gullet...all very good things in my book. I didn’t think I cared for the band, but this song opened me back up. Moving on, my enemies are not my friends, sorry; every time I took a good gulp of their atmosphere it went blank. In the context of the rest of the selected songs it was appropriate, just not my dish of berries. The first Hissyfits track caught my ear from start to finish, I feel they employ just enough menace to have effect, not overdone. I realize the Burning Brides song could be compared to much else, but I thought some of it sounded like a less showy cousin of Danko Jones. Me likey. By the time the Spazz Zodiac track came along I felt like an old goat – I still go to hardcore, thrash, heavy, whatever-we-call-it shows, but listening to this part made me realize that’s not what I throw on for everyday listening anymore at all. Neither Rondelles tune made the greatest impression on me, and I’m quite sure it’s because of the voices. That David Axelrod song was something of a curveball. I’m quite sure I’ve heard it before, and I was glad to hear it again. As if the BVA song wasn’t hilarious enough on its own, you had to let me know the band was called Shat. How could I not laugh even harder at that? The closer was kind of like warm milk with roast beef. Take my word for it, that’s a good thing. All in all, most of the songs you selected struck me as very emotional in both sounds and words. The ones that weren’t quite that way displayed a consistent sense of humour, though. I appreciate it. I also appreciate all the heavy stuff, it took me back to a time when I listened to pretty much nothing but.

Homers pet monkey:
The first two tunes were quite enjoyable, the opener in particular, and they’re a band I’ve been meaning to check out for some time; no reason at all other than the name. If that Racing Line song had a chorus that hit me quite like the rest, it would certainly rank as excellent in my ears. If that Love is an Unfamiliar Name song had a singer that hit me quite like what joins it, it would certainly rank as excellent in my ears. The Grates is just a great name for a band, and I enjoy this track quite a bit as well. Didn’t like Honey when it started, but it was only because I expected it to break out into something overly cutesy. By the time it ended I was fully interested. The Babyshambles song had me interested at the start, but hasn’t quite held me as of yet. I’ll give it some time. Late Night Bus is great, I already have plans to put it on a tape for someone. Something about that song by The Cribs just makes me want to laugh. I can’t explain the previous statement any better. Upon seeing the title for The Waltz, I really hoped it would be anything but, just because stuff like that forces me to chuckle. Upon seeing the title of Francis Bacon, I made a mental note to pay great attention to it. I’m glad I did, it’s really one of the best songs on your disc. Neutral Milk Hotel is one of those names that seems to be floating about everywhere but I’ve never really heard them. They sound like a drugged-out bunch. Some days I’ll like it, some days I won’t be able to stand it. Blonde Redhead (another name in New York’s honour!) has been slowly growing on me for awhile. I don’t own any of their stuff yet, but this song is helping me get there faster. They played my hometown a few months back, but I wasn’t there to see it. Never been able to decide whether I like the New Pornographers, but this song nudges me closer to yes. I’ve a feeling this collection will grow on me, but as of now I haven’t wet my pants over it. It seems to me that many of these bands hit their climax before the songs do. Once I get over this, I expect that your disc will have more effect on me. Perhaps I’m just sticky.

Brian, I apologize for the Evergreen letdown, even though the song kicks booty. Glad to hear you enjoyed the Slackers; that song comes from an album entitled Close My Eyes, which is very good in my opinion. Most Slackers fans I know seem to go for one called The Question, and Wasted Days is really good too. They have a couple more, but I've never heard them in their entirety.
That Syzygys track came from a late-'80s live performance that was released a couple years ago under the name Eyes on Green. All I know about the band comes from that disc and the sleeve, surely the internet would be more help. Based on the two mix CDs I've heard from you, I've a feeling you'd enjoy it. Jorane kicks ass too, if you're going to give her a shot I would start with 16mm or her live one.
