could be just me, I had to wait for a cheque to clear because posting isn't a free thing, if I don't make the post office today I'll make it on monday.
I made artwork for them, but haven't had chance to print it so have parcelled them without but can e mail to anyone who wants it when the CD arrives.

There you go, the front of it anyway, the back has the tracklisting and that wouldn't do!
Had to wait in for a delivery today (things with which to mend my broken computer) and the post office shuts early so it will be monday that they go out, they're all wrapped and labelled on my desk, I think I can send them airmail to europe and the us/canada (I'm just checking the guidlines on the royal mail site) so it should be a week today at the very latest that they arrive. (obviously earlier for the brits, so Mikey and Nic you should get them tuesday/wednesday?) sorry about the delay, unavoidable part of being a student with an income of nada.

Review: Nicole's CD
Favs: "Cul de Sac" - Tomahawk, "Retreat! Retreat!" - 65 Days of Static, "In Fiction" - Isis Least Favs: "Conjugal Blues" - Sex Maniacs (though i love both the title and the band name), "Missles" - The Sound Comments: Like all of Nic's mixes, it makes me realize that i've gotten old and no longer listen to music this heavy. But i like it, as its a shot in the arm (or a kick in the ass) to this groggy bastard. As you probably could tell, i dug some of the mellower/more melodic work, but i generally enjoyed the whole thing. I still prefer the "Stoner Rock" CD from the Genre-mix, but i like all them.
Denis Review coming soon...

Review: Denis
Favs: "Lucie Anna" - Les Wampas, "Speeding Morotcycle" - Daniel Johnston, "If Drinkin' Don't Kill Me" - Geraldine Fibbers Least Favs: "Angola" - Cesaria Evora, "Christmas Wrapping" - The Waitresses Comments: As i said before, Denis managed to put my least favorite song of all time on his mix, which actually made me laugh a lot. Some great stuff on this, both that i didn't know (see favs), and that i did know (Br. Danielson, Guitar Wolf, Devo). I like the variety of the techno-ish stuff in the middle of the mix, the jet rock stuff in the front and the mellower stuff at the end. Bravo Denis.

shineoftheever mix: faves: Shout Out Louds (all 3 tracks), Butthole Surfers, Billy Bragg, Spoon least faves: Blur - Crazy beat, Yorke & PJH I don't like Damon Albarn and I hate Thom Yorke, so I just skipped their tracks (although the other Blur song - we got a file on you - is pretty good). That said, the rest of the CD is really good, it didn't grab my attention at the first listen but it's grown on me. I even get used to the artwork, which I like a lot now! The Shout Out Louds are really good and I know Mike always talks about them too, so I'll check them out. Someone said the Butthole Surfers track wasn't their best, but I liked it, and I've been meaning to get into them for a long time. All in all it's a great compilation of bands I didn't know, and I think it's gonna get played quite a lot at home.

Shine's mix: Faves: All 3 Shout Out Loud tracks, both OK Go tracks, I was suprised by Billy Bragg - never given his stuff much time, but really enjoyed Waiting For The Great Leap Forward. I already knew and loved the PJ Harvey stuff and the Les Savy Fav which Shine, you so kindly introduced me to and who I would now rate as one of my favourite bands. One to Three has an intro and opening lyrics that grabs me every time. Least faves would have to be the Snow Patrol, but to be fair that's only because we listened to their last album to death at work last year. In my mind your best mix yet - thought it had a fun feel to it instead of taking itself too seriously.
In fact I think this round of mixes has been of the best to date.

Tobafetts' mix:
What a sexy little mix this was! Loved that it was female vocal heavy especially since it's where I feel my music collection is lacking at the moment. Stand out favourites for me were Lesson No.1 - Viva Voce (said it with the last one and now I really have to investigate them further), Foo Fighters track, which I'd never heard and it's a real gem. Bug - 50 Foot Wave, Tales of Ordinary Sadness - Electrocute and Listen to Me Daddy-O - my absolute favourite on the comp - big guitars, feedback and a theramin = big smiles for me. The only weak track for me was the Bow Wow Wow one.

Denis, i've been meaning to ask you, have you ever seen/heard Peelander Z? They are a jet-rock band from Japan that puts on one of the most insane live shows i have EVER seen. When the show starts, its just the bassist/drummer, kicking into this Who-like groove, and the guitarist/singer comes running out with motorcycle handlebars (complete with light) and runs around the crowd making "VROOOOOM" noises. Eventually, he settles by his microphone, and pulls out a small bottle of Whiskey, which he chugs to the delight of the crowd. Then he picks up his guitar, and does some Pete Townsend-style windmill-swings, hits one chord at a time, then holding his plectrum in the air and shaking his head back and forth. He does this 10 or so times then kicks into the songs. Amazing. My friend Ed and i were absolutely blown away by the showmanship.

Sounds great! I'll definitely check them out. I've seen Guitar Wolf in concert and that was insane too. They came onstage with the Ramones blasting in the speakers, pulled out combs from their back pockets and spent a couple minutes combing their hair before starting destroying our ears methodically. At one point the guitarist helped some guy climb on stage, gave him his guitar and went crowd surfing while the kid banged out chords. I wish he'd choosen me... Right now I'm downloading Wild Zero, a movie starring Guitar Wolf saving the world from zombies. I bet I'll love it.

Brian that is so funny considering I'm older than you. As always I'm suprised by what has worked for you. Missiles was my SAFE track (or so I thought). I've just bought tickets for 65 Days of Static (a band from Kitten's neck of the woods) and can't wait to see them. The Sex Maniacs are a local band from Leeds - great fun live - tall lanky (calm yourself Kathryn) front man with great stage presence & swagger (he runs quite a cool little indy record shop). The Goatsnake track was incidently one that I desperately wanted to stick onto my stoner genre mix (total Black Sabbath rip off) but for some reason only burnt with major interference, so it was dropped.

if you have a program like photoshop or something comparable, just open the photo in there and alter the image size. i think there might be a way o shrink it using photobucket, but i really don't know. i always just use photoshop. if you email me the pic tonight after i'm done w/ dinner and a drink w/ the lady (around 11pm EST) i can alter it for you and mail it back. i'd be happy to.

tobafett's mixes: Both CDs are very good, though I might like the 2nd one a bit more. As said before, CD1 is heavy on female vocals, which was a very good idea considering you were the only one doing this. My fave track has to be 50 Ft Wave, I know everyone raves about them on the forum but I had never listened to them. Same things for the TMBG track. The Kills I already knew (and loved). I usually don't care for the Foo Fighters but their song was actually pretty good. There weren't any songs that I hated. My least fave would be the Basement Jaxx song, although I liked their first album and loved seeing them in concert at the time. CD2 is really cool and has a couple of things I listen to regularly (Mancini, Kid Koala, Pizzicato5 ). I was about to put some Jean Jacques Perrey on my mix too. He's the nicest guy on Earth, I saw him once at some sort of conference/mini-concert. I'm a big fan. The Stereo Total track is excellent, unfortunately it's used in France in a Sony commercial, which almost ruined the song for me. I'm not a fan of Carla Bruni (well, her singing at least!) and I definitely can't stand the Stereolab singer's voice, but the rest was great. Oh, and I got used to the REM song. It's still not great but I don't think it sucks that bad. I like music that you can listen to while doing something else (let's say, throwing a hip dinner party) but that has some depth when you concentrate on it. So your mix is a winner.

HPM's mix: Faves: Doog, Neutral Milk Hotel, BRH, Longcut, Grates Least faves: Babyshambles, AYWKUBTTOD, Groop Dogdrill, TEAM Your CD made me chuckle; I got a sister (she's taken) who likes the same bands as you, and she regularly receives mix CDs made by friends, and I always make fun of her musical tastes while discreetely stealing her CDs and enjoying them. I don't have any of the records you put on your mix (except Blonde Redhead that I love), but I kinda liked it. I was extremely disappointed by Babyshambles, cause I liked the Libertines a lot, but this song is simply awful. I know this won't happen, but the guy should definitely quit the drugs. The 2nd half of the CD is the best part, especially the segue from 17 to 23. Doog's track is really cool, and I think I liked the Neutral Milk Hotel song on Xavier's mix too, so I'll keep them in mind for next time I go to the record store.

Yeah the Babyshambles track seems to really divide opinion. For a start it's a crap version but I wanted the song on and the final single version wasn't out at the time. That said, some people hate it anyway, but some love it. I loved it when I first heard it, but must admit to going off it a little now. Maybe I should have left it off and put The Postal Service track on after all (next time).
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts Denis (still not got your CD by the way).

I feel you were smart to leave the Postal Service track off, whatever it may have been. One of the few bands that really makes me shudder every time I hear them. Anywhat, I'll have two more sets of comments written up tomorrow. The rest will have to wait until after I can go home and pick them up - approximately two weeks' time. I'm getting to it all, just a little slower than I wish.
