Brian's Mix Review:
Favorites: Mike Watt – “Pedro Bound!” I almost skipped it the second time I heard it, but it has grown a lot on me. Now I'm anxiously waiting for this song to come. Yonder Mountain String Band – “Idaho” You didn't imagine this choice, did you? I always liked bluegrass stuff, althought I don't hear it that much nowadays. Also I love songs dedicated to beloved places, as the previous one. Dan Byrk – “Bbw (Chunky Girl)” It's too much long, and it needs some more 'She's almost perfect' for my taste, but still have sent me some shivers through my spine. I'm a cheesy romantic.
Special Mentions: Ted Leo/Pharmacists – “Tell Balgeary, Balgury is Dead” Danielson Famile – “Good News For The Puss Pickers” A.C. Newman – “Secretarial” Violent Femmes – “Old Mother Reagan” Sufjan Stevens – “They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhh!”
Least Favs: Black on White Affair – “Bold Soul Sister, Bold Soul Brother” I'm not used to funk. Foo Fighters – “Floaty (BBC Session)” Not a bad song, but I think it breaks the general mood a little. The Bad Plus – “And Here We Test Our Powers of Observation” I know it's cool to like jazz. I've tried, but I can't. Too young to jazz.
Comments: Looks like I enjoyed most of the record. And I did. I'm not telling that to be sweet to your ears. And I must warn you, guys, if I feel the need to hardly critizise one mix, I'll do it.
I've got no much more to add, sorry. I don't know if it's your best mix, but it's for sure a fine one. And I know you have worked hard doing the compilation. Thank you.
PS: Now give me a custom title!!!

Mix: Broken Face
Favorite Track: GBV, baby! Least Fav. Tracks: Stevie Wonder : ( Also, I couldn't get it up for Sufjan Stevens. Sorry. I've always disliked “Old Mother Reagan,” but that's my problem. Comments: Oodles of artists I'd never heard before, which is always a good thing.
Homers and shiner pls. send us your tracklists.

Mix: LBF's
Favourite tracks: 1000 Hurts - Shellac (Don't know how I've lived without Shellac in my life), Fever - Azure Ray, actually the run from Something Wrong - The Hissyfits straight through to Shellac is on my ipod and getting played heavily since it's the perfect length for a walk that I pretty much do daily. Further special mention for 4 Crimson Reflections - Thoughts of Ionesco (live that must be a dream) and Ain't No Grave - Richard Buckner Comments: Love the range - probably the most varied of all the mixes done to date (of course I also love the fact that someone has stuck heavier stuff than me on his mix )

Mix: LBF
Favorite Tracks: "Something Wrong," I like the singer's voice .... "Where the lost kids go" spoke to me. The Rondelles' cover of "I melt with you." The last track made me curious to learn more about Richard Buckner. "Shellac's 1000 hurts" ... a grower. Least Fav. Tracks: Will rotten fruit be tossed at me if I admit to not being into Elliot Smith? ("I love secret agents" is more my speed.)
Comments: This mix made me melancholy. I love the picture you burned on mine, Andy. And the way you addressed the package was swoony.

Mix: Whore
Fave tracks: The opener (Neutral Milk Hotel) and the lyrics of "Honest" by Dover.
Least Fave: The Loreena McKennitt track (too New Age-y); Ryan Adams (I don't do harmonica).
Comments: Gotta love any mix with 2 REM songs. It was nice to hear Spanish music; a thrill to have Mark Knopfler on a mix. Who are Sexy Sadie? I like their song. Nice guitar. I liked the Tegan and Sara lyric "Underwater I wrote drowning, I used to be such good, good swimmer" but as a group they're too poppy for me.
Please explain the dedication song!

Mix: shiner
Comments: I felt right at home with this mix, and not just because I knew many of the tunes (PJ, Billy Bragg, Butthole Surfers). Of the songs I didn't know, I especially dug The Shout Out Louds' "The Comeback." The extra CD you included has made me so happy, Jon! It's perfect for running.

To Kathryn: Sexy Sadie are probably the most famous spanish indie band. From my island, BTW. I've talked about them before, I think. They started playing VU and Pixies covers (actually, they still play 'Here comes your man' from time to time).
hey share the drummer with Sterlin (my little revenge ), because the lucky guy is dating their vocalist. It's all connected. This is a small island.

I think "Hearts of Oak" is his best, but many people debate this (as for most bands), but all the Ted Leo songs (minus the one i put on the North American comp) i've put on the Int'l CD swaps ("I'm a Ghost," "Tell Belgeary...") are from "Hearts of Oak." I'd say start there

more to come

Toba Fett's Mix
CD 1:
Favs: "Rad" - Smoosh, "Tales of Ordinary Sadness" - Electrocute, "Listen to Me Daddy-O" - Cato Salsa Experience Least Favs: "Hot Rod" - Peaches, "Rockaway Beach" - Sahara Hotnights Comments: I wish the Space Ghost song was louder! Twice now i've been tricked to turn my stereo up and then be blown out by Viva Voce. I like the mixture of tv themes and songs, and i liked the pacing of the record a lot.
CD2
Favs: "Duckpond" - Midwest Product, "Theme From Slaying Beauty" - The Bambi..., "Le Plus Beau Du Quartier" - Carla Bruni Least Favs: "Season Song" - Blue States (but i still liked it) Comments: EXCELLENT mix. I have a 'dinner party mix' on my iTunes for when i have people over, and i'll have to import all of these songs into there. I really dug just about everything on it (even R.E.M.!) and it is the perfect thing to listen to when you're exhausted at work (which i am)

I just sent mine off, at long last. I spent a couple days at home and there are five or six from you guys that have shown up so far. No time to post reviews right now, I'll get to that later. I'm just letting you all know that mine are on the way.

however some mixes are by song length, and some have a few continuity switches in the middle parts. same 22 songs on all discs though.

Sent the first 4 CDs this morning. I'm sending the other 7 on Monday. For those who have 2 discs (ie K, toby, daniel and mike), I put them both in a single CD case to keep it cheap but I included both artworks.

For some reason Xavi's CD hates my CD player - it will play, but it makes it act really weird (like saying that the last 4 tracks are all track 19 and that track 20 is the same as track 1). so my review of his will have to wait until i can play it in a cd player that it wil hopefully agree with...
Shiney's Mix Review:
Fav. Tracks: "One to Three" - Les Savy Fav, "Run" - Snow Patrol, "Good Fortune" - PJ Harvey Least Fav.s: "The Power is Yours" - Redskins, "Pepper" - The Butthole Surfers Comments: Two of these tracks reminded me of Jr. High School ("Plowed" and "Pepper"). I used to love "Pepper" but now i really can't stand it - its just so preachy and anti-what the BHS were really about. When i was watching the Flaming Lips doc "The Fearless Freaks" they interviewed Gibby Hanes from BHS and they asked "What is the difference between the Flaming Lips and the Butthole Surfers?" and Hanes said "They never sold out." To me this (along with things like their 'metal' phase that got them featured on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack) shows how far they fell. But thats not really about the mix, now is it? I dug all theShout Out Louds stuff, and i always love some Polly Jean. A nice mix of stuff. I think its my favorite of the 4 shineoftheever mixes.

I was ready for it, Nicole. There's some bas language on mine, I guess, but as it's in spanish, you don't have to worry.
I feel sorry, Brian. I didn't check the recordings this round. I hope it'll be the only one.

Mix: HPM
Faves: "Ode to Isis" = best opener I've heard so far; tracks 4 + 5 + 21 (who are they by?); Nine Black Alps' "Unsatisfied" made me cry. Fun: New Pornographers/Breaking the Law; Editors/Bullet.
Least Fave: 6-10, 13, 17-19, 22
Comments: Eeriely familiar, like the music I love best. Being a huge fan of the seamless segue, I admired its flawless execution (tracks 1 > 2, 4 > 5).
