I have had to re-do mine to take off the tracks you bastards put on yours.

There were a few.

I discovered - on my way to mail the buggers out, no less - that my disc shares a song with one we've already received. If you happen to hate said track, I grit my teeth, stand up to your tomatoes and mop my brow with a weary chuckle.

Thanks Xavier. Your CD was waiting for me when I got back from the airport late last night but I haven't had time to listen to it yet. I have quite a few things to sort out this week but I will find time to listen to all the mixes I have so far hopefully.

Hey Andy, you're artwork is of a very high quality. Did you do that at home?

Also, I was gonna put a Burning Brides song on my very first mix. Good to see one on your mix. Have you heard their second album?

Well the reviews seem to suggest it has more actual tunes? Is this true?

By the way I really enjoyed your mix Andy. I have only listened to it once (just now) but I like most of it. The more shouty stuff was a little too much for me.

The Elliott Smith song was beautiful and the Shellac song is excellent (it featured on another member's mix CD, one or two swaps back). I also liked the covers towards the end, for bravery and because I think they are great songs.

So basically I am the only loser who can't get into Elliot Smith.

[editing to add] Omigod, Denis. I hadn't heard that Waitress' song in forever.
You're such a cute person!

Nice cover art, too.

Not a fan either but I know, like, 2 songs by him.

So it's famous over there? I had no idea if people knew this band. I just liked the song.

REVIEW: kathryn's mix.

Faves: Smithereens (stuck in my head), The Church, all things Bob Mould, Camper Van B
Least faves: Go Betweens, REM (never been a fan)
Comments: one of my favorite mixes until now (I haven't heard them all yet). Obviously it's due to the fact that it's the closest to the music I usually listen to. I knew the majority of the bands featured and I appreciate them a lot; and yet you put almost only songs from albums I don't have, so it was still quite new to me. I have to thank you for the Church song, it's something that was stuck deep in my memory, a song that I heard a long time ago when I discovered alternative music, but I never knew who sang it, and it surfaced again thanks to this mix. Among the bands I didn't know, I enjoyed the CvB songs a lot. I now have 5 songs by them (these 2 plus an EP sent to me by Cooking Vinyl, which has Tusk, Take the Skinheads Bowling and another one) and I like them all, so I think I'll buy some of their CDs if someone can recommend me where to start. And that damn Smithereens song has been stuck in my head for a week now, I'll have to do something about that.

CVB are a band that are best discovered in order. Buy "Telephone Free Landslide Victory" and go from there. (if you can find it, i have the 5 cd set 'Cigarettes and Carrot Juice: The Santa Cruz Years' which has the first three albums packaged with a live album and a rairities album. the only downside is that they recently re-issued the records with bonus tracks that aren't in the set, but they are available via itunes if you have that)

Denis, I will happily send you my "Beginner's Intro to CVB/Cracker" CD compilation, which I have sent to a couple of other
forum folks.

You might want to see a doctor about your dislike of REM.

Is "nopa" another of those Catalan words that are different in the Baleric Islands than in Catalunya, where the true Catalan is spoken?

No, Surfer, I have not received yours.

No new mixes this week thus far

I think this mix batch might be the most successful, as each CD has found its way back into my player after reviewing it, and each one gets better with each listen.

REVIEW: HPM
Favs: Aberfeldy - "Vegetarian Restaurant," The Long Cut - "Late Night Bus," Neutral Milk Hotel - "The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. Two and Three"
Least Favs: Babyshambles - "Fuck Forever," Groop Dogdrill - "Best Sex in Texas"
Comments: My favorite of HPM's by far! So many great songs, including a few that i already knew (New Pornographers, Blonde Redhead, etc). Honorable mention must go to Doog's track too, which i really enjoy.

Review: Xavi
Favs: Neutral Milk Hotel - "Holland, 1945," Sexy Sadie - "Turn Me On," Marah - "Freedom Park"
Least Favs: Loreena McKennitt - "The Dark Night of the Soul," Alaska - "Ni Tu Ni Nadie"
Comments: Also my favorite Xavi mix thus far. The mix flows in a very odd way, but it totally works - its hard to describe, but i really enjoy its ebbs and flows. Someone once said Xavi's mixes were 'mature' and i think thats the perfect term for them.

I still don't know why someone call them 'mature'. Anyway, thank you.

I actually knew when I did it the whole Loreena Mckennit thing. You don't know it, but you'll be fans at the end, MUAHAHAHA!!!

No Surfer's mix in my mailbox, sorry.

'Nopa' is just a dumb deformation. 'where the true Catalan is spoken', beware of that kind of sentences if some day you come here or you'll be involved in a neverending argument. Don't say I didn't warn you!
