this is a thread for people who would like to have a simple, straight-forward, literal discussion. the aim of this thread is to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings, even if it's at the expense of what some of you call "humor"..
here are the rules of this thread: no metaphors, similies, allegories, conceits, facetiousness, sarcasm, hyperbole, or farcical remarks are allowed.
antics and buffoonery are prohibited, as are any and all shenanigans.
there will be no bantering, blitheness, or boisterous behavior. no wisecracks, witticisms, mischief and tomfoolery are allowed. under NO circumstances should anyone make comments that could be regarded as gleeful, good-natured, humorous, jocose, jocund, jokey, jolly, jollying, joshing, jubilant, larking, lighthearted, loony, merry, mirthful, nutty, pleasant, sociable, or zippy. (especially zippy)
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THERE BE ANY HIGH JINKS
there will be no excuses for mocking, ridiculing, satirizing, or teasing of any kind. no euphemisms are allowed. and, last but not least, it is not acceptable to make allusions (literary or otherwise) to people, places or things not literally contained in the sentences you put forth; no double entendres.
now, what shall we discuss?
[edit] just added to prohibited-list: mirth, fun. |

I literally want to discuss why tofu is mocked on this forum. Why can't it be accepted as a normal thing that some forum members enjoy in the course of their day?

people who mock things are people who don't understand. they are unenlightened. same with people who make "jokes"..
we won't be tolerating any of that in this thread |

I eat soy sausage for breakfast...pork it ain't but it's good for my heart. family history dictated the move...
i'm not a fan of tofu--likely because I've not been offered well-prepared tofu dishes. i'm open to recipes. |

floop, a procedural question:
Is toba's "well-prepared tofu dishes" comment, specifically the italicized part, in keeping with the thread's rules? Am I taking things too literally when I sense some sarcasm or hint of humor therein?
Thank you in advance for your clarification.

well, kathryn, if you were taking things too literally you wouldn't be detecting sarcasm and humor now would you? i think the problem you're having is that you're not taking things literal enough.
things said in this thread could never be taken too literally. because statements in this thread are, and always will be, nothing less than strictly literal. how we like them |

Thank you for explaining that. I will do better from now on. I will only take things literally.
It is very warm tonight. Unpleasantly so.

I would sincerely appreciate well-thought-out tofu recipes. i'm going to the supermarket in a few hours (they don't close until midnight) and I could pickup some should there be a non-sarcastic, tasty-sounding reply. |

i am happy to see you two responding to one another as well as abiding by the rules. just because we can't be gleeful or jolly doesn't mean we can't fully appreciate this thread |

Great. But when does the fun start? Or is no fun allowed? Mirth? Can we have mirth?

I am somewhat sorry to learn this, darwin, though I do appreciate your clarifying the point. It would have been interesting if that had been true, if it had been literally so. Again, sincere thanks for moving away from the world of high jinks and to the world of concrete meaning and facts. Have I mentioned how handsome I think you look in that shirt?

i'm sorry, i figured it would be implied that fun and mirth are not allowed. going to have to edit the rule book again.
one thing we do allow here is clear-cut, unambiguous, non-obfuscated communication between people. and there's something to be said for that. and that something is: that is good. |

Sorry, floop. I am trying to follow the rules but I have never been good at following rules. No mirth, then, no fun. Sounds great! Don't you think darwin looks cute in that shirt?

I have seen feces and this thread is, in many ways, different. Even if we were to assume it is similar to feces in some way, it is-- arguably-- less than the quantity necessary to be considered a "load." |

I find this thread to be both funny and fun, which is wrong, because it's not supposed to be either, according to the rules. |
