I have attened a pre-premier (what the fuck is that anyway) in my hometown Spijkenisse in Holland:
DAMN!
It's so good!
It makes Ep 1 en 2 suck even more
really
if you are put off by those movies, give this one a chance!
I think it's in the top 3 of best Star Wars movies, maybe
better than ESB or ROTJ, haven't seen them in quite a long time.

Yes, twas an excellent finale. It's on par with the original trilogy, perhaps even a bit more powerful. The internet will be hopping with joy tonight.

im with Broken Face on the ranking - cept for attack of the clones - i'd have it last
Saw the midnight screening here in Australia, thought it was pretty damn good, especially the last 45min or so - the lightsaber battles were a bit ridiculous, didnt know what was going on half the time, and does anyone find it ridiculous how R2 seemed to be on steroids???
They definitely didnt hold back with the Anakin lava scene - thought Lucas might wimp out there but it was definitely powerful....i liked it how when he awoke in the Vader suit it was treated as an extremely sad occasion instead of having the Vader music blaring etc....I reckon Palpatine just about stole the show too |

my favourite scene was Windu vs Palpatine
That really freaked me out, was dreaming about it all night long
that face, pff, the action and eerieness
just like on dagobah (whatever it was called) with luke fronting vader in his dreams or something.
come to think of it, there were lots of moments and scenes that I liked
the yoda fighting was way better than in II

Umm... neat!
Yes, this movie is incredible. I'm more pumped to see it again than I was to see it the first time, and I was pretty damned pumped to see it the first time. I go again in about an hour.
There were no real surprises, at least not this time, but I was so much more impressed with the way things fit together and the way the characters suddenly seemed real and had depth compared, in particular, to Episode 2. I can now understand and see how Anakin IS Darth Vader. And I thought that there was a lot better connection between Anakin and Padme this time.
It was interesting to see how big a role Mace actually played in Anakin's turning. I mean, if he had shown mercy what would've happened? Or if he'd not been so mistrusting of Anakin. Or if Anakin had given into his anger when he discovers Palpatine's true nature the way he had given in with Dooku. Who, incidentally, was killed much sooner in the film than I'd expected.
There were so many relationships that I thought were so much more real this time, Anakin and Obi-wan being another example. I didn't really care that Lucas showed Anakin's mutilated/burning body. I just liked that the movie wasn't laced with Jarjar Binks and cheesy one-liners from C3P0. I'm not sure what it took Lucas to make the transition back to genius (don't get me wrong, I really liked Phantom Menace and even Attack of the Clones, but that was in spite of flaws which I don't think exist in this movie).
Anyway, I freaking LOVED this movie and only seeing it twice in one day does not feel like enough. There are things that leave me wondering, but that can wait for another long post.

Wow. I saw it last night and was blown away. Episode III feels like the original Star Wars movies and Lucas totally redeemed himself as far as episode I and II go. The story and characters seem more developed and the CGI is less distracting in Revenge of the Sith.
Amazing movie that I must see again in the theater soon.

wow Dean - if Ep. III were a woman you'd have it in bed with you right now.
After 12 hours or so to let it sink in, here is my Cheers and Jeers approach on the film:

the more i think about it the more i realize that it is still a HEAVILY flawed film, but not nearly in the same league as Ep. I or II, which i can honestly say i downright dislike (i was going to say hate, but there are 15-30 minutes of each worth salvaging).
lucas has such a hard on for giving R2D2 new gadgets/abilities that it really makes me sick - the R2 flying thing almost made me get up and leave the theater in Ep II.
the vader "Nooooooooo" was so cheesy that the theater reaked of brie.
I was a bit disappointed at Lucas continuing his trend in the prequels of introducing and killing a formidable enemy in each film: Darth Maul, Jango Fett, and now General Grevious. i know Grevious was introduced in the Clone Wars cartoons, but still - these characters have been grossly underused. Also, if Dooku was Palpatine's apprentice, was he at the same time that Maul, or was he a late convert? i wish we had a little more backstory into the Sith.
the dialogue was still very subpar. lucas really should have hired someone to spice it up a bit. also,
i for one am not impressed by the space battle sequences - they are SO over the top and the special effects are just too much. we lose focus on the actions b/c of all the secondary action going on in the background.
i have mixed feelings on the explanation of qui gon being able to 'come back' from the dead. i always thought that the reason that Obi-wan/Yoda/Anakin became ghosts was because they willed themselves to become one with the force - all three were prepared to die and surrended themselves to the force. to me, that makes a lot more sense than someone who is dead somehow 'discovering' a way back, but i'm glad lucas clarified things a bit. i also wish that there was some explanation at the choice of Luke and Leia as the names of the twins.
Chewbacca being in the film was also totally worthless. If Chewie knows Yoda, and knows of the Jedi, then why would be be so skeptical of Obi-wan in Ep. IV ? wouldn't he explain to Han how he knew the Jedi and blah blah blah? thankfully lucas dropped the part of the 10 year old Han he wanted to put in the film...

i'm glad that the virgin birth of anakin was explained - (darth whatshisface manipulating the midichlorians) i always felt that was super lame. i'm glad that jimmy smits had more than 2 lines in this film - i think they handled his character quite well.
the light saber duels were better in this than in Ep. II for sure.
the relationships (as Dean said) were MUCH better developed in this one, and i think the turning of Anakin was done very very well. you truly see the dilema he is in and can understand why he would be confused.
Haden Christensen (or however its spelled) was 100x better in this film than in Ep. II. i finally saw a real character instead of an obnoxious kid or a bratty teenager
the Captain Antilles that is shown, does anyone know if that is supposed to be Wedge, or Wedge's father? I hope father, b/c Wedge shouldn't be 20-30 years older than Luke.
i thought that everything plot wise (besides the aforementioned wookie/qui gon/premature deaths) was right on the money, and i applaud lucas for really tying things together.
re-reading it all, i know it looks very negative, but really i thought it was quite good. i do re-rank them though, putting it:

Ha, you have no idea. I'm in a hostel with four snoring Aussies who would give Jurassic Park's sound guys a run for their money, so I have my iPod playing the episode 3 soundtrack through my earplug/headphones when I toddle off. I agree with you on the Chewie thing, but I thought that Qui-gon discovering a way to become one with the force and therefore, in a sense, immortal (though he's really just a spirit at this point) was a masterstroke. Particularly because that was largely the reason Anakin left the Jedi. Really, everything Anakin wanted by going to the dark side would have been achieved by him staying in the light. Would Padme have died, even? You know, if she didn't know she were responsible for creating a monster? And still had her husband at her side?
Anyway, I can see a few negatives, and as always with the Star Wars universe, the more I know, the more I want to know, but it's always been that way. How did Palpatine become a Sith? Was he, in fact, Sipher Dias (sidias = sidious). I think so, but we'll never KNOW. I guess we have to accept that there are details missing and hope for the books and so on to fill it in.
I'd love to see this universe franchised and see what other directors do with it. I really hope George changes his tune on that. Anyway, I've got to go, see you all in a few days.

The whole anakin has no father/midichlorians is something
that is a bit too much jesuslike , but I'm so happy
that Palpatine didn't say to Anakin things like:
HE was your father! (that other Darth dude)
a bit more Sith history would have been good, this was to last chance to give
Darth Maul at least 1 reason to have been in the whole Saga, now he's even more stupid than when we first saw his tatood face.
Actually, whole EP1 wasn't necesarry if you ask me, if EP2 had been told in 2 movies, it would have been quite good. Keep the little boy from EP1 in the first 30 min of the first movie (don't let him say or act too much!) for completness sake. Lose Darth Maul and start the Sith story with Dooku joining Sidious, but not to clearly, mysteriously, maybe only Dooku's voice saying yes master.
Actually, forget my lame attempt of trying to think of a better Star Wars,
Lose EP1 and let's give all the characters more time to develop a personality and some background,
that will take 2 movies and then this EP3.

Still haven't seen the film. I'll either catch this weekend or next, I guess.
This morning, I was watching the local news, and they did a spot on the die-hard Star Wars fans that showed up at midnight to watch the film last night. The reporter interviewed three friends (males, early twenties) who had seen it twice already. They came off kind of ridiculous, very stereotypical "nerds" (they even refered to thesemselves as dorks). Anyway,I mention this because one of the light-sabre toting fans was wearing a black "Death to the Pixies" shirt. Thought that was kind of funny.

Good, not excellent. For me the best part was the rescue on the federation cruiser at the begginning. That felt the most 'star warsy'. I could picture Han and Luke in similar situations. But like all the prequels, the lightsabre fights disappointed me. Too flashy and fast, without a single oz. of tension or emotion. Gimme me Jedi anyday.
And also, those fake looking babies taken out of Padme were huge exclaimation point. She's a little thing and didn't look too pregnant. Jesus lord, where was she carrying that?

Captain Antilles is Wedge's father. He was mentioned in A New Hope. C-3P0 says mentions that he and R2-D2 had previously belonged to him.

Im not a Star Wars fan, in fact Ive never seen episodes 1 or 4 (YES, ive never seen the original..)
BUT I wanted to see this, cause I am fascinated by the whole prequel idea and just how important these movies are, etc etc...
I friggin loved it...I was blown away...Ive rarely been so gripped during a movie. I want to see episode 4 now VERY badly...
It had a ton of flaws but I swept them aside for the time being, and was just amazed by the story and the intensity and just...THE WHOLE THING... I mean holy crap.
Very few movies will give you that kind of an experience.

Captain Antilles was also in A New Hope. In the very first battle scene he was the "Rebal Scum" Vader was lifting up with one hand and crushing his wind pipe and then discards him against the wall. Yes that was Captain Antilles.
I'm really glad they didn't put Han Solo in this movie Chewie doesn't bother me, but Lucas was thinking about putting Han on the Wookie planet. That would have been a huge mistake. As someone who has read The Han Solo Trilogy (these books are sactioned by George Lucas) knows that Han saves Chewie life as an adult. Han is an Imperial soldier and is ordered to kill Chewie. Read the books The Han Solo Trilogy would make great movies. The last chapter in the last book of the Trilogy takes us to the beginning of Episode IV: A New Hope. It gave me chills.
[edit] Han spent his childhood years as a gypsy type thief with a sort of Oliver Twist like family in space. He was reared by a female Wookie, but it was on a space ship.

Great movie... damn. I saw it on Friday and I have been wanting to see it again ever since. I really want to see ROTJ now.
I didn't understand why she picked the names Luke and Leah???
And I don't understand exactly why she died during child birth? IS it because Vader couldn't stop it like he had planned or what?
And so the only Jedi left are Obi Wan, Yoda, Luke and Leah right?
