No, I'm not familiar with Moore's writings. Perhaps I'll check him out. I just bought a book by Mark Haddon, so I'll be occupied for a bit with that.

Stick with Gravity´s Rainbow Mikeabye, it´s a wonderful and generous thing. By the Bye, I was looking for lyrics to that Camper Van song but the discography section of their website is down, can anyone post em?

Here for you Tre, I found a graphic novel of the first part of the Auster:

From http://www.the-van.com/songs/index.php?artist=camper_van_beethoven&song=All+Her+Favourite+Fruit :

I drive alone, home from work
And I always think of her
Late at night I call her
But I never say a word

And I can see her squeeze the phone between her chin and shoulder
And I can almost smell her breath faint with a sweet scent of decay

She serves him mashed potatoes
And she serves him peppered steak, with corn
Pulls her dress up over her head
Lets it fall to the floor
And does she ever whisper in his ear all her favorite fruit
And all the most exotic places they are cultivated

And I'd like to take her there, rather than this train
And if I weren't a civil servant, I'd have a place in the colonies
We'd play croquet behind white-washed walls and drink our tea at four
Within intervention's distance of the embassy

The midday air grows thicker with the heat
And drifts towards the line of trees
When negroes blink their eyes, they sink into siesta
And we are rotting like a fruit underneath a rusting roof
We dream our dreams and sing our songs of the fecundity
Of life and love
Of life and love
Of life and love

“I love being a judge. The intellectual challenges are exhilarating … But I am not only a judge. I am also living with Aids. I am still the only public office bearer in South Africa to have chosen to make public my HIV status. I felt I was called to witness. I felt called to account for my survival in a country in which hundreds of thousands were dying. I did not feel I should remain silent.”

offerw, have you read "And the band played on," by the late
Randy Shilts, the first journalist to cover AIDS as a beat (for
the SF Chronicle)? Amazing, ground-breaking work, not
just because it was the first book about AIDS but
because it's a solid journalism book, period.

KOK, was that a lady Sasquatch I fell for? I thought it was a
boy Sasquatch, musta been all that facial hair. Never too
late to turn to lesbianism, I guess.

I haven't read the book Kathryn. I did see the film years ago at a film festival but it wasn't any good. I don't think it got a general release.

I´m liking this guy a lot at the moment:

I borrowed this from a friend in Spanish and then found out it had been translated from Engerlish, I´d always assumed it was the other way round with this fellow:

Did we already do a favorite books thread? I think so. Well, this book was the last thing I read and LOVED. So interesting and beautiful. Lots about science, and history, and also a love story. I highly recommend it.

Oh, and this was great too although entirely different. Loved loved LOVED it.

These are great as well Owen

Eightball 23 "The Death Ray" I found brillantly bizzare and awkwardly hilarious like most of Clowes stuff.

I've been reading The Cresent Moon by Francis Brett Young at the moment, a sort of Victorian story of mysticism and love in deepest darkest colonial Africa.

Join the cult of Conrad/'cause he's a nob head.

Down and Out is great.
I especially like this bit:

"If plongeurs thought at all, they would long ago have formed
a union and gone on strike for better treatment. But
they do not think, because they have no leisure for it;
their life has made slaves of them.
The question is, why does this slavery continue?
People have a way of taking it for granted that all work
is done for a sound purpose. They see somebody else
doing a disagreeable job, and think that they have
solved things by saying that the job is necessary. Coal-
mining, for example, is hard work, but it is necessary-we
must have coal. Working in the sewers is unpleasant,
but somebody must work in the sewers. And similarly
with a plongeur's work. Some people must feed in
restaurants, and so other people must swab dishes for
eighty hours a week. It is the work of civilisation,
therefore unquestionable. This point is worth
considering.
Is a plongeur's work really necessary to civilisation?
We have a feeling that it must be "honest" work,
because it is hard and disagreeable, and we have made
a sort of fetish of manual work. We see a man cutting
down a tree, and we make sure that he is filling a social
need, just because he uses his muscles;"

Down and Out I love that book. Barcelon has a Plaza George Orwell but everyone calls is Plaza Trippy because it has a statue that looks inspired by hallucinogens but I have a theory it´s because no-one can pronounce George Orwell, it comes out like Chore Chorewell.

Tanks Barra, I´ll have a look for that.

first two as asimov wrote them or first two in galactic empire chronology?

that's why i was asking KSR. i read them in the order they were written starting with the the 3 pre-foundation G.E. books. pebble in the sky, the stars like dust, the currents of space. also, the robot novels tie in loosely. i would like to read them again in galactic empire order.
