first two as they were written, I bought them in a second hand bookshop in cornwall and am fucked if I can find them round here except for in the ridiculously overpriced sci fi shop (that I never go in and know nothing about of course) I usually leave things like prequels and extensions until after I have read the main ones (if that makes sense?)

ever read the dune books? i spent a small fortune gathering all of those and now I've lost all of them again except for dune! d-oh!

The Foundation trilogy is way better than the sequels and prequels (which are still great, especially the prequels).

shine, i read one of these years ago - didn't even know it was part of a trilogy.

There are flashes of recognition as I read this, so I may be re-reading.

Thanks for all the input...

there is actually about 14 including robot/foundation/pre-foundation. if you google asimov foundation you can probably find a billion sites with the correct order. i know the first foundation book chronologically is 'prelude to foundation' and it was released in the 80's, then 'forward the foundation' was published after asimov died in 93 or so.

Why not? Books provide essential roughage!

Just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It had some good moments and I think is particularly interesting for fathers. Just starting Ian McEwen's Atonement.

update: so, i'm still reading this (what can i say, i'm a slow reader).. i'm almost done. i just thought i'd post about it because i discovered that they're making it into a movie..

which is interesting because while reading it i was thinking i'm sure they're already making a movie (being a best seller and all)..

for me, i thought it would make an excellent animated film. that's how i would have done it (if i was a producer)..

but it looks like Alfonso Cuaron is doing it. which is cool because he's a good director. i would rather see him do it than M. Night actually..

anyway..

The most gripping page turner you have ever wanted to read and a book that says everything about uk 90's drug culture is FREAKY DANCIN by BEZ.

Highly recommended and very funny in parts.

Well, it's not so much that I disliked it more I resented the build up to it, I didn't think it warranted the amount of attention it got. It's a nice little story and very sweet in parts, but near the end I'd had enough already and wanted it to hurry up and finish.

I just finished the last Harry Potter. Now I have a biography of George Marshall and Ulysses Grant's memoir sitting on the shelf, but those aren't attracting me at the moment. Maybe I'll see if I can get Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation at the library.

Iīm putting the hand up too, though the last chapter had a deft touch about it. As for the William Gibson one, it started off mighty ambitious and then ended with a bad guy being pushed off a tall place and people running away from a big explosion which was so meh it sent me screaming back to Thomas Pynchon, who Gibson rips off pretty transparently (something we have in common I spose).

The Antichrist and a Cup of Tea, by Tim Cohen. Interesting synthesis of the so-called proofs of the future rise of the Antichrist emboded in Prince Charles himself. Usefull informations about the symbolism of coats of arms...

I've started reading this:

The Japanese film "Ringu" was based on it, and the American film "The Ring" was based on that.
