I'm currently reading..

Bought this last week:

About three quarters though. So far it's actually been a really, really good read. I don't usually like biography-type-things; I suppose it is John Peel, though.

I yet have to read a bad Asimov Book (the only one I didn't enjoy was Azazel).
His memoirs are great. This guy was brilliant.

Riveting. I'm not too far into it, but even if you've read a lot of Pixies related articles over the years, there's a lot of insight into the band. The details about their early days are fascinating and sometimes surprizing.

I had a proper geek-treat when I came to stay with my dad this christmas, I have had to downsize near enough all my books over the years what with the various moves and thought my asimov books had all gone by the wayside, then my dads ladyfriend pointed out that a load of my books were on the bookshelf in the spare room and lo and behold! there they are! Joy!

Anyway, reading right now:

Probably the umpteenth time I have tried out this trilogy, it's so hard to plough through.

I actually started reading the Foundation series while I was abroad (i.e. recently) too. I certainly recommend the chronological approach. I thought the first two books, Prelude and Foundation were the best, but I haven't finished the series yet.

I finished Fool The World. I consider myself quite knowledgeable about The Pixies career, but this had a lot of stuff I didn't know about. A lot of contributions from Ivo Watts-Russell, John Murphy, also Jean Walsh and Rich Gilbert among others. Fascinating stuff.

I've had the Gormenghast books for years, I only ever read some of Titus Groan. I'll have to read the whole thing sometime. I love Peake's descriptiveness. I assume that's the king's daughter on the cover, Tre, I remember that great line about her being a bit ugly, but with a twist, she would be beautiful!

I've also tried to read the Gormenghast trilogy and not gotten very far. Maybe I should try again sometime soon.

my favourite bit is where kim first sees french toilets, as told by kristen hersh. and the tour bus diary story, which is sweet and perhaps a little disturbing.

I finished Margrave in the Marshes. It's a great read, really is. I recommend it to anyone who likes John Peel, pop music since the 50s, etc. Really interesting.

I bought this today:

Looks good. Quite in the mood to read George Orwell's writing at the moment.

Me too, just finished it today. I'd say well worth reading even if your acquaintance with John Peel is minimal, it's very well written and very charming.

Finished this. Interesting, have to say, though, even though Sean Astin proves self defacing at times, he does seem a bit self-obsessed. And he really makes a meal out of everything!

I'm re-reading the entire series. So far, I've read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," "The Magician's Nephew," and "The Horse and His Boy." I'm moving on to "Prince Caspian" next.

I'm reading Titus Groan at the moment (I know, it's like I'm copying Tre-see above!), I've had the three Gormenghast books for years but I've only ever read some of the first one! I'm a good way through it, and really enjoying it. Mervyn Peake's descriptions and observatiosn are wonderful, and the character names are like a mixture of Shakesphere and Dickens. I like the way it's set in a fictional world, but it's not a typical fantasy work in that there's no Dungeons And Dragons stuff in it, monsters and magic or whatever. The characters are strange and varied, but human and real. The BBC did a mini series of the trilogy in 2000, which I haven't seen. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (who stars in Match Point and just won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Elvis in a US TV series) plays Steerpike in it (an astonishingly manipulative and sinister character), Christopher Lee plays Flay, and a whole host of great actors appeared in it. I wouldn't mind seeing it after reading the books.

Carl, you're on exactly the same level as everyone else I've met that's tried to read Gormenghast. I couldn't finish the first book, I just got bogged down, twice. Maybe I'll try again.
The TV version was good though.

I'm reading High Fidelity again, which is apparently addling my mind. I'm getting paranoid, people have given me mix CD's since I started reading it... Girls!
