Called Mishima, by Paul Schrader, guy who wrote Taxi Driver and uh Cat People.

Tre, I found the start of Glamorama a chore with all the lists of names but it picks up. And White Noise by Don deLillo is a good companion piece, Ellis said he had that one in mind when he wrote Glamorama (though WN is a squillion times better).

Keep flickering, Carl. It's great. I got tears in my eyes the moment I realized I was reading a draft of "Dumb". Plus, the thing is chock full of great one-liners.

I'm really stuck into it now. It's funny how he mentions how the music scene is like being back in school, I remember reading an interview where he said the Seattle scene was like that for him (that, of course, is what School is about!), and that incident with the girl is strange. Also, I think he had a run in with the police that the song Scoff is about....I read before that he was arrested for spray painting a wall, or something. They cops took a list of his possesions, I think he had an MDC (Millions Of Dead Cops) tape on him. There's a line in that, song, 'Kill a million'. Some of cartoons are really cute and funny!

I [i]finally finished 100 Years Of Solitude - absolutely great, apart from one nagging frustration.

Next: Paul Auster - New York Trilogy

Ah, Mishima (Mishma, pour les intimes) exceptional writer, fantastic and tragic character. A Destiny. A real myth. An avatar?

I am still amazed by his novels. So daring, modern and politicaly incorrect.

I still wonder how he became THE contemporary writer of Japan (you know.. Japan) when you read his first novel: Confession of a mask.

Sepuku for ever!

Just finished this one:

Great book although I think I prefered the other Roth book I read, The Human Stain.

As anyone read Steve Martin's first book? Is it any good? I think it's being made into a movie?
And the Virgin Suicides? I've heard it's much better than the movie? Is it?

The film version of Virgin Suicides is an exact version of the book, word by word, scene by scene. Either watch the film or read the book. Both above average I think.

Middlesex is my favorite Euginides book. Really good.

I also didn't get Glamorama nor American Psycho. Less Than Zero probably the only Easton Ellis book I've enjoyed.

It has been ages since I've read a novel, mostly books on local politics next to my bed (depressing stuff). I think I should go for De Lillo's White Noise, I loved Underworld.

Hey, what happened to the forum book club? I've recently gotten hold of Natural Novel.

Just read

It's a hard (meaning heavily reliant on realistic scientific ideas, the author is a physicist at U of Washington) science fiction book. It had some interesting ideas, but wasn't very well written or compeling. It's unusual for me to read ficition and this book isn't going to drive me to read more.

Just read my last post, I was about to start NY Trilogies. Long finished that, very much enjoyed.

Now reading 'Time's Arrow' by Martin Amis - it's complicated to explain. It's forward, linear narrative, but written as viewing a life going backwards.
It didn't exactly come highly recommended by certain parties, but I like it very much.

Currently reading "English Passengers" by Matthew Kneale. About a parson in the 1830s who decides he's going to prove all this heathen science wrong by discovering the original garden of Eden, which he believes to be in Tasmania, and in which he is sure to find geological evidence that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago, as stated in the Scriptures. It's consistently funny while managing to be also quite brutal at times. I'm enjoying it so far.
