D, I don't want to hurt your feelings but unlike, say, Rita who
said in the secret forum crush thread that her sfc were
female forum members, I do not have a sfc on you. However
I do value you as an important part of my forum experience
and I do think you are a lovely forum member. I like you a
lot, I do! And I very much look forward to your birthday.

can someone tell me what the purpose behind farenheit as a temperature measure is?
what is it related too?

Zero is the freezing point of salt water. 32 is the freezing point of water, but there doesn't seem to be any particular reason for that. 212 is the boiling point of water, because it's 180 degrees above the freezing point. No, it doesn't really make much sense, but it DOES allow for a greater range of temperatures in everyday use.

Can anyone tell me the point of kalvin temperature then, as if life wasn't stupid enough!

Just as an aside, it's not hot here at all, in fact this library is bloody cold and I wish I had bought my scarf today

Kalvin is the same as centigrade, but works from absolute zero as 0 (i.e. -273C). It actually makes the most sense out of any of 'em if you think about it, all you need to do to find kelvin is subtract add 273 to the temperature in celsius.

Now if anyone can tell me why its both centigrade and celsius...

I think the guy who invented it was named Celsius, and he named it Centigrade, but it was later renamed in his honor.

I've also heard that the Celsius temperature scale was originally backwards (i.e., 0 was the boiling point of water, and 100 the freezing point), but I don't know if this is actually true.

According to this page, Fahrenheit predates Celsius by 18 years:
http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blthermometer.htm

Celsius makes more cense, but I am fahmiliar with Fahrenheit.

Tre that looks like a lovely building in which to house
an indoor pool.

Dayanara, I have grown used to your mocking and I feel
nothing, nothing. Except for some coldness around my
fingers and nose. Man, it's cold here right now.

It's raining and it's that cold damp wet that chills you to the bone.

But I have the option of lying in bed all day and not leaving the house.

Dophins are so cool! I just watched a PBS documentray on how sonar impacts ocean mammals-- not good!

It's chilly willy here and I am a penguin. :( We're getting slush (and not the good kind that's rasberry flavored that you can drink)
