Recently when I heard Pixies were doing Reading/Leeds, I figured i'd better ask my mother if I was allowed to go (I'm fifteen) now, thinking i'd get some hassle which would probably blow over by August and I would then get to go. What I received instead was a flat out no, with no reasons and no further discussion. This is a pretty reasonable request right? Some of you guys out there in forum land have got to have been there and had this problem, any ideas I can try to get her to let me go? I HAVE to go. Thanks.

Erotic Volture, I went through the same exact thing last December. My parents forbade me to see the Pixies on 4 out of the 5 nights they played at Hammersteins. (Come to think of it, I think there might have been more than five shows actually). Anyway, I did get to catch them twice on the past tour, fortunately, but did not Pixies it up to capacity. I'd say, try to convince your mother how important this event is to you, possible once in a lifetime. Sometimes parents will bend if you act pathetic enough, out of pity.
In retrospect, I should have snuck out to go to the shows, and now regret it. Don't let an opportunity like this pass you by, at any costs.
Are you honest when no one's looking? Can you summon honey from a telephone? They sat there with their hooks in the water and their mustaches caked with airplane glue. |

i don't miss being 15. this kind of stuff sucked.
vulture, you do have some time to try and convince them. just be persistent (and on good behavior).. or do you have an older relative who could take you? that they would trust you with?

I don't think anyone older than 15 misses being 15. Although I liked being 15 better than 16, because 16 is the age at which you can get your driver's license in Pennsylvania. I wasn't interested in getting one at that point, but people kept asking me if I had, and it got annoying.

Listen to Sir Rock. Learn from his experience. If all else fails, sneak out. No, I am kidding.
Can you have a calm, respectful discussion with your mom, where she explains her reason(s) for saying "no" and where you can explain your strong desire to see the band? Your best bet might be such a meeting of the minds.
Good luck.

Erotic Vulture... you sweet thing! I can totally relate as I was in your shoes gosh...17 years ago... hopefully I did the math right.
Anyway... have you ever seen the Pixies?
The good thing is that you have plenty of time to butter your mom up to letting you go!!! I mean if this means going with her, taking a drug test when you get back, going with your cousin.... what ever, do it. :)
But I do know sometimes parents can be unreasonable and there is no sense taking them into it.
Hang in there you have until August to work this out... hopefully this will be a happy ending! There is hope!
Please feel free to drop me a line if you want to chat.

No, i've never seen them yet, and that WILL be changing. Our school term ends on thursady and we get reports, mine will be awful, so I might have to wait for that to blow over before I try anything... As yet they don't know the people I am planning to go with, but as they are both over 18, and legaly responsible (ha) adults, I plan to indroduce them in the best light to my parents, preferably just after I did something real good :)bvut my track record for coming home when supposed to isn't so good, so hypnotism is pretty much my strongest hope at the moment.
I'm giving them the wrong dates at the moment, so if all else fails, consider me snuck out :p (I am a good daugheter most of the time, honest).

You can come along with my family if you want, me my wife and a group of kids aged 16-22 are going, admittedly its just me and my wife that will be there for the pixes, if you need a chaperone or something, we would be happy to look after you.
Note. It isnt big or clever to meet strangers off the internet.

Yeah I know, and it is a shitter, I am sure you will get there though, you know you could plea bargain, give them something in return for a trip to reading. My daughter does it all the time and I fall for it all the time.

I will be in no condition to look after anyone, so no offers of chaperoning or anything like that.
Young Vulture I suggest you start a meticulously planned campaign involving much sucking up, kissing ass and strategic crying.

I'm going in the general direction of kissing ass, strategic crying, and burning things until I get my own way. Just joking. I think i'll try this logical discussion malarky... And if that don't work i'll try the first option I'll keep you all posted (not really, it's as boring as hell...) Thanks

It's not boring. We Frank fans need to help each other out, especially those who aren't yet fully in charge of their destinies.
Clean up your track record on coming home when you're supposed to. In the next few months, be the trustworthy person you want your mom to trust. Jump thru whatever hoop she wants you to. Do what it takes to have her allow you to get your butt to that show!
Damn, I wish I were going but the UK's too far for me to travel right now.

Well, I've had this problem in the past as well (my parents being uber-Southern Baptist Christians), but fortunately my parents have lightened up on the subject. I don't know what advice to give you, just keep begging them and telling them how important it is to you. Kissing ass, unfortunately, doesn't work generally, although being a pain in the ass about it does sometimes. And then, if all else fails, you can just say fuck you, sneak out, find a friend to stay with for a few days and wait until they just can't stand it anymore and beg for you to come home (although I, personally, have never had to resort to that). Anyways, good luck! (it sucks being a teenager and living with your parents)

Calm down - these are just the most likely rumoured acts.
I'm waiting for the smaller tents to be announced - then I'll plan what I'll be seeing.
My mate is going to the announcement party tonight, so hopefully she can pick up some more info there.

I totally agree! I'm getting a bit older now and I still regret not going to Lollapalooza '92 because my mom wouldn't let me. Plus that's the summer I got pregnant at age 18, see what can happen if you miss out on concerts...

I completly understand you Carolyn, I didn't saw the Pixies in 92 because I had my son in the year before, so you must try to do everything that you want, when you're still so young. You MUST convince your parents to go.

I've seen "Pixies only UK gig" mentioned around a few times, and again on the reading festival site, i've also heard this isn't true, anybody know what's really happening? Seems pretty pointless to me them coming to the UK and just doing a couple of festival shows... The groveling has begun.

15 is a good age to go with someone who's older I always wanted to go to festivals but it's no place for children I can see that (now) but when you are with someone who's responsible I don't see one reason why you couldn't go

I did that all the time too, I lied to my parents and I could do anything that I wanted like that...Now that I'm a mother, I know that parents know all that, all the lies, they just pretend they don't. I'll try to never do that to my son. But he doesn't want to come with me to see the Pixies
