In a collective push to get our song db as chock full of information as possible, we're going to experiment with posting a new song every couple days to the forum.
This is where you come in. If you know anything about the song (or are interested in trying to find out through some skilled sleuthing) then the idea is that you post your knowledge (with source if possible).
If it's conjecture, that's great too (just please label it as such), because it'll help get people talking.
El Barto, the Song DB Master, will then take what elements he can from the thread and put them into the db. It should be full of tidbits in no time!
What sort of information are we looking for? Anything that gives insight into the song's meaning, creation, etc for one. As well, interesting nuggets of information.
Examples:
- Descriptions of (possible) song references
- Quotes from FB or other notables on the song
- Definitions to words you think might not be immediately obvious
If you're not sure about something, post and ask! You may jog someone's memory. |

Incidentally, I'm not sure if it's possible, but I think that the write up he did for Cooking Vinyl needs to be on the album page for SMYT:
I found a nice space in Hollywood to put my studio up for a while, and that's where we recorded Show Me Your Tears. It's actually a working studio; the owner of the building let us take over the second floor. It's got big windows, and we look out on sad, beautiful, ugly, smoky Los Angeles. I don't know if the location has influenced the songs, but it felt right to do the songs there. Also, I've been going to therapy. Take out your big knife, doc, and split me right down the middle of my chest, from my neck to my belly. See my heart muscle right here? Pumping and full of electricity. Take that knife and split my skull open. See the brain about to explode? The doctor said I'm not interested in your damn brain; you got a big broken heart? Big deal. I'm not interested in your heart, SHOW ME YOUR TEARS! And so here they are. Thirteen big, salty tears. Like thirteen little black dogs just born, still in their sacs, about to wake up, ready to howl at the world. There isn’t a happy song in this bunch. I mean, maybe MASSIF CENTRALE has a ray of hope, but even then, I don't know, central France can be really cold and lonely. Maybe NADINE is a sexual celebration, but man, I get so sad when I think about her, way back when, ah fuck, whatever happened to me and her? So maybe you'll like this record. May I suggest a single malt scotch, straight up, as an aperitif? Then drink cold, red wine throughout, and then forget about the digestive; put the record on again and go look for that bottle of scotch. You're never going to like one of my damn records if you only listen to it once.

Wow, C_O_F, this is great. Thanks for soliciting our input. I can't wait to read what gets posted here.
At this point, all I can do is Ditto what Kathryn said, "Gosh, what is there to add? Frank's write-up is brilliant." And, I agree, his write up would be an excellent addition to the album page for SMYT.
Seeing this topic just reminded me that I need to pay my FB.net dues. I've got paypal, but haven't used it for anything other than Ebay. I'll figure it out and send in my dues. Keep up the great work here. It doesn't go unappreciated, as I'm sure you know.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I just recently picked up the UK Nadine single and SNAKE OIL is my new favorite song. The Man really screams, yells, shouts, and otherwise sings his ass off on this one. LUDWIDSHAFEN will probably be my next new favorite song, but I'm not ready to move on yet. |

There are some red wines that are served cold (around 10°C). Some Beaujolais for instance. However Frank's favorite, the Chateauneuf-du-Pape, is best served at room temperature (around 17°C).
(no, I don't know anything about wines, I googled this)

There's an interview in german where he speaks alot about the songwriting-process regarding SMYT. But my german is bad. Very bad. Maybe someone could translate (are there any germans here?, or maybe the dutch members could do it?). Anyway, my poor understanding of the statements about nadine is something like this: i think he is being asked about the personalities he crowds his songs with, and he says something like: "nadine is a character, but the song is about me and my interaction with these nadines (i think it is plural) and their influence on me.
Here's the german quote: Ändert sich denn durch diesen Prozess die Wahrnehmung als solche? Z.B. in Bezug auf die von Frank kreierten Personalities, die seine Songs bevölkern? "Ich weiß nicht", überlegt Frank, "nimm z.B. 'Nadine' - das ist ein Charakter, aber der Song ist eher über mich und meine Interaktion mit dieser Nadine und ihrem Einfluss auf mich. | room temperature when wine was first being made was probably a lot lower than it is now. imo, anything colder tastes better anyway, so i quite like chilled red wine. |

ivandivel, your translation is pretty accurate. He is talking about only one Nadine, though.
In that article, asked about the albumtitle, Frank talks about how life confronts you with real pain at times and how that pain was a source of inspiration for him.
"Everything on that album happend at the time I recorded it."
Then comes the quote. My quick attempt in translating it:
But does this process change the perception itself? For example concerning the Frank-created personalities, that inhabit his songs?
“I don`t know”, Frank thinks, “take ´Nadine´ for example – that’s a character, but the song is more about me and my interaction with this Nadine and her influence on me. I´ve always done it like that, though."

Looks good guys. Conjecture and opinion is great, but what ultimately will make it into the DB has to be fact. Please state sources, names, and dates if possible. For examples, check through the song DB.
I guess I just wasn't made for these times. |

I don't think Jean is the one dressed in black. I haven't heard that kind of malice (comparing her to the Grim Reaper) towards her. Death is just coming to take his marriage away. |
