Some guy just texted Tom Dunne's show on Today FM asking about a rumour of Pixies + Kings Of Leon in Lansdowne Rd in August. Tom knew nothing. I went on KOL site and apparently a gig list that fanclub members only get has a Kings date in Lansdowne on August 23.
Curious!

I really hope this happens, especially since my plans to go to France to see them got pulled out from under me.
Do you ever read signatures thinking they're part of an actual post? I find it really annoying |

From hotpress online "The Pixies and Franz Ferdinand look set to play headline dates at Dublin's Lansdowne Road this summer", unfortunately you need to be a subscriber to access the article which i am not, and they don't seem to have Hot Press in Vietnam, so maybe someone could pick it up and see what else it says..... |

Dr. Gonzo to the rescue. Nothing groundbreaking. Along the lines of what's been speculated here. My money's on Pixies + Kings Of Leon on the 23rd.
Full article text: The Pixies and Franz Ferdinand look set to play headline dates at Dublin's Lansdowne Road this summer
Although there’s no official confirmation yet, the word on the industry grapevine is that the Pixies and Franz Ferdinand are to play separate Lansdowne Road headliners between August 19 and 24.
Both bands will be in gig mode then, with the Americans warming up for Reading/Leeds (26/27) with a series of smaller European festival dates, and Franz playing the Chelmsford and Staffordshire V Festivals (20 & 21).
More news on hotpress.com as we get it.
In the meantime, there’s definite word on a new Frank Black solo album, Honeycomb, which is due on July 15 and finds him joined in the studio by such legendary musos as Steve Cropper, Buddy Miller, Reggie Young, Chester Thompson, Anton Fig, Billy Block, Akil Thompson, David Hood and Spooner Oldham.
Enthusing about working with the Stax, Mosley Shoals and American Studios me, Black says:
“This was the only time I’ve been in a studio and had the strange feeling I was witnessing something spiritual. When we were recording, those guys didn’t even look at each other, they closed their eyes and they meant it. I have never recorded with people who meant what they played so much.”
We’re sure that’ll please Joey, Kim and David no end.
Not to be outdone, Alex Kapranos has been talking about the direction the second Franz Ferdinand album is taking.
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Dylan recently,” he confides. “I’m getting really into Highway 61 – it’s so good! That’s influencing more my lyrical style than anything.
“We’re listening to a lot of Bowie too. A bit of the old glam stuff, but also Low, Station To Station and Heroes.”
Songs earmarked for their sophomore effort include ‘Your Diary’, ‘This Boy’, ‘Wee Andy’ and ‘Evil Heathen’.

So chineselover, you may prove true! Landsdowne,as a headliner it's pretty big, very surprized that this is being mooted. Would love to see 'em in intimate settings, hope the rumours of a B-Side show also turn out to be true, perhaps in a nice, cosy little venue! |

yeah carl, well my source was and is pretty reliable, i was trying not to set it out as fact because i didn't know if he would like me spreading it around (he's in the industry).... so even though its not confirmed, i think we can be pretty confident... in fact kings of leon and teenage fanclub would be a good line up, TF being old friends of frank's of course... what would be good about it is that there is no band playing that would attract a unapreaciative crowd, like a current indie teen sensation or something... really hope that B side gig thing is true... maybe i'll email the guy i got the info from to see if he heard anything.... a B side gig would be a dream come thru... and the crowd would be pretty much the pixies obsessive bunch which would be good.. anyways, everyone post if they hear something and i'll do likewise.... |

Thanks, chineselover, we always believed in you! :) Yeah, I hope lightening strikes twice, and we get 'em over here-that B-Side gig might be hoping for too much, but, y'never know!! |

Sorry man, didn't mean to steal your thunder or anything. And I seriously doubt that the muppets in the FAI or IRFU will get anywhere near starting refurbishment for at least two years.

That was quick! To follow up on what Bazza was saying, it sounds like The Scissors Sisters will be playing alongside Pixies. But you just know all these little snippets of information will change over the coming months, for better or for worse. (Hopefully better. B-Side gig? please.... |

Scissor Sisters with Pixies? You getting this info from somewhere else? The impression I get is; Date One:Franz Ferdinand supported by Scissor Sisters. Date Two: Pixies supported by Kings Of Leon. Music styles would, I think, mean that this would make more sense too. I think Pixies + KOL would be apretty rockin' gig too. The Kings definately aren't a great band yet but they've got potential, there are some seriously rockin' tunes on their latest album. They've got a fairly different style to the Pixies but I wouldn't mind seeing 'em. With U2 finally, I think, realising that they're shoving on and becoming ever blander and the Red Hot Chili Peppers also releasing more and more indistinguishable tunes, if KOL keep progressing, I reckon in an album or twos time they will be biggest rock band in the world. Whether or not that's a desirable thing to be is another story.

Well, you have to expect that for Landsdowne, and of course there's KOL involved(and maybe other bands? Just a guess!). |
