The Best For Less. Records give you top quality for less money than any other recorded form.

They Allow Selectivity Of Songs And Tracks. With records it's easy to pick out the songs you want to play, or to play again a particular song or side. All you have to do is lift the tone arm and place it where you want it. You can't do this as easily with anything but a phonograph record.

They're The Top Quality In Sound. Long-playing phonograph records look the same now as when they were introduced in 1948, but there's a world of difference. Countless refinements and developments have been made to perfect the long-playing record's technical excellence and insure the best in sound reproduction and quality available in recorded form.

They'll Give You Hours Of Continuous And Uninterrupted Listening Pleasure. Just stack them up on your automatic changer and relax.

They're Attractive, Informative And Easy To Store. Record albums are never out of place. Because of the aesthetic appeal of the jacket design, they're beautifully at home in any living room or library. They've also got important information on the backs-about the artists, about the performances or about the program. And because they're flat and not bulky, you can store hundreds in a minimum of space and still see every title.

If It's In Recorded Form, You Know It'll Be Available On Records.
Everything's on long-playing records these days...your favorite artists, shows, comedy, movie sound tracks, concerts, drama, documented history, educational material...you name it. This is not so with any other kind of recording.

They Make A Great Gift. Everybody you know loves music. And practically everyone owns a phonograph. Records are a gift that says a lot to the person you're giving them to. And they keep on remembering.

This comes from the inner sleeve of a CBS/Columbia release from 1970. In this case a mint copy of 'Chicago Transit Authority'. Point 4 still makes me cringe....

One of my favorite bits of promotional copy on old record inner sleeves is something from Warner/Reprise in the early 70s.

They were for a bunch low-priced label samplers called Loss Leaders. On one double album, you'd get tracks from the likes of Jethro Tull, Kenny Rogers, Captain Beefheart, Randy Newman, Deep Purple, Joni Mitchell, The Everly Brothers, The Kinks and others.

No major label today would probably ever come up with ad copy like this:
---

Warner/Reprise Loss Leaders are full stereo, double albums in deluxe packaging. Each double album ($2 for two records) averages about 28 selections. Each is filled with the finest selections from the artists' latest work, plus some extra collectors' items (such as unreleased singles).

You can't buy Loss Leaders in a store; they are available only by mail.

We can get away with that low price because these celebrated artists and this record company have agreed not to make a profit on this venture. We (and they) feel it's more important that these albums-about-other-albums be heard.

Each Loss Leader is divinely packaged, having been designed at no little expense by our latently talented Art Department.

Loss Leaders are compiled fromm new stuff, NOT old tracks dredged out of our Dead Dogs files. No selections are used on more than one album.

If our Accounting Department were running the company, they'd charge you $9.96 for each album. But they're not. Yet.

Still, if you're suspicous of big record companies as we feel you have every right to be, we can only tell you that Warner/Reprise is not 100% benevolent. It's our fervent hope that - after hear one of the Loss Leaders - you'll be encouraged to pick up more of what you hear on these special albums at regular retail prices. That's where the profit lies. We think.

I've never used an automatic changer. I've heard that they do a lot of damage to the records, but how exactly do they work?

And yes, records are, unlike most things these days, the best product and at the same time (generally) the cheapest.
