Hey everyone
I thought it was time for a new CD swap, since the two "active" ones have, for the most part, ended ('cept for a few delinquent senders). So, i've been trying to think of a new twist on this, and here is my idea:
10 people - 1 CD a piece dedicated to a specific genre (if you want to exceed that, go right ahead, but 1 is all that is required). There are no genres that will be chosen off the bat, so whatever you want, as long as its open and you're one of the first 10, grab it. The choices can be as broad as "Instrumentals," "A Capella," "Jazz," "Classical," or as specific as "Acid Jazz," "Indie Hip-Hop," "Speed Metal," etc. Try and pick a genre that you feel you can give people a newfound appreciation of. And yes, i know that "Instrumental" isn't really a genre per se, but use your imagination. This swap is only for the adventurous and should be a lot of fun.
CDs will be sent out once every week in a random order so there is time to digest, and is open to anyone on the forum, despite location.
Feb. 7 - Surfer Rosa: Stoner Rock Feb. 14 - Cheeseman1000: Post-Rock Feb. 21 - Broken Face: Instrumentals Feb. 28 - Gypsy Death: Singer/Songwriters Mar. 7 - Remig - "Rock" Songs Mar. 14 - Vilainde - Techno Mar. 21 - KimStanleyRobinson: String Bands Mar. 28 - Dayanara - Classical Apr. 4 - Rita: Portuguese Music Apr. 11 - ObfuscateByWill: Soundtrack to Sleep

Sign me up for Happy Hardcore Played On The Bavarian Nose Flute! If that's already gone then I'll have Acid Jazz Played On Peruvian Toe Bells!
Sorry but I think I will be useless at this one. Good luck though (hope everyone sends their CD's as promised )

don't forget, your "genre" can be country-specific also - so homer could do a UK comp and rita a Portugal comp...

I thought about that, a portuguese compilation, but that would be so boring...for some people!

Hmmm, not it gets more interesting. Can I decide when I know what other people are gonna do? I mean which "genre" they are going for? Some genres just will not interest me at all.

1. Broken Face: Instrumentals 2. ObfuscateByWill: Power Electronics (Industrial)
Changed my mind. Wanted something a bit more vague and much more pretentious.

Remig, here you have to make 9 CDs as there will be 10 players, and that's it. it's easy and simple! You send to everybody and everybody sends you.

I'd participate but I don't like post-rock. Then again, I'll make a techno mix and nobody likes it either...

So would I! Isn't the whole idea to expose yourself to genres that you might not normally listen to and to expose others to what you listen to. I'm going to treat mine as a beginners guide almost. A comp of tracks that I consider outstanding and what I would play for an alien that had never heard stoner rock before. |

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool Nic. Denis, I think my ones cost around £2 last time (as far as I can remember), so that is roughly 3 euros maybe?

What's stoner rock? And what the hell is Avant-Classical? Will Remig include some Queen in his mix?

It costs $2.40 to ship from the USA to UK/Europe.
-
I don't know how postal rates work overseas.
$2.40 = 1.84 euros / £1.27

Stoner rock is also known as fuzz or desert rock. The term "stoner rock" generally refers to groove-heavy music with an abundance of feel, rather than grunged-up shoutiness - it's low-key, melody-and-feel-heavy rock.
"Stoner" gives the impression of something that'll blow your mind, and "Rock", pays homage to the old 60's and 70's bands that started the sound.
Or to quote a friend of mine "it's rock n roll man! Add a bit of volume, a touch of fuzz, and a load of wah....hey presto!"
Or just wait for my mix!

Yeah, I'm serious!
Hey, do me a favor and pmail me what I can expect from this -never been involved before.
I mean, I can deduce that I'll be sending nine copies of a CD to nine different places, but...well -other than that, I'm a bit gray on it.
Danke! |

No no no, you got it wrong. You don't send CDs. You send money for people to buy whatever CD they want, and in return you receive their reviews of the CDs they got. I'm sending you my address right now.
