Oh, Flopo! You've lost 8 points in my scale.

I'm currently reading Da Vinci Code. It's so badly written it nearly gave me nausea this morning. It's stupid, unrealistic and retarded. It's supposed to have a great story but I read 130 pages and absolutely nothing has happened. This book is the litterary equivalent to a Celine Dion record.

"dVC" isn't a bad book; it's well written, it moves at a good pace, and the story is planned out well. The big problem is that the author can't resist filling it with all kinds of educational information that is meant to surprise you and make you feel like you're not just reading popular fiction, you're learning things. It bothered me but I have a feeling that's why a lot of people like it.

A very long engagement Une long dimanche de fiancelles
was a great movie. And is considered to be one of the best Great War pictures. A teachter at my university said that she has seen loads of world war one movies, but this is the one that has the most realistic scenes (not talking about the story here). She is a master if not professor (have to check that one) in Historical Visualisation, she knows what she's talking about

Funny, that's exactly what I hate about the book. Every 2 lines I read something so badly written it makes me cringe. Maybe it's just a problem of bad translation, it often happens, but I doubt it's the only cause. The dialogs are horribly cliché and the narration is full of mistakes. I always go back in the book to check if the action is coherent and there are a lot of illogical things. On the back of my mind: the girl is shown the photography of her dead grandfather at the police station, it's said she "just had a glance at the picture and turned away", and 2 pages later she pulls out of her pocket the photography. The inspector finds who he thinks is the murderer, he takes him to the scene of the crime in the Louvre museum, and then decides to leave him ALONE for 15 MINUTES in the toilets with no chance to know what the guy's doing except for a ricidulous GPS chip! The alarm is set off in the museum, they shut it off during the investigation, then everyone leaves and no one thinks of putting the alarm system back on? And if the writer did some research on the works of DaVinci and all, he obviously forgot to visit the city in which he situates his story... The guys manage to escape a police car chase on the Elysian Fields! Hello!! It's a straight avenue, there's absolutely no way to hide! Later on they manage to have a 10-page long conversation during a car ride that lasts no more than 3 or 4 blocks... Sorry, but I won't buy his conspiracy theories if none of the things I do know about are accurate.

I read DVC last summer. It's just like McDo, eat fast, tastes good at the moment but leaves a bad taste in the mouth, makes you fart and shit two hours after. |

Every now and then it tricks you into thinking it might be cleverer than it is but then it shows itself up again by royally sucking.
I read it in one sitting just to get it over and done with. |
