I completely do understand rita. I can't imagine that a Portuguese only speaker would enjoy many English speaking films as much as we do either. It completely makes sense.

Yep Homer, I've also a few films everybody shouted "classic" at first and I just didn't get at all. The Fight Club springs to mind. I hated it from halfway through.

Well there you go, I love that movie. I guess it's all a matter of opinion. But then again, isn't everything. Keeps things interesting I guess.

I stuck that on recently for a friend(who happens to be a huge movie buff), and he was'nt to impressed. I kind of got that disappointed feeling you get from a negative reaction to something you like. Not that I'm the world's biggest Fight Club fan, or anything. Panic Room was'nt that great, and I don't mean because it was a more conventional movie. It just lacked that extra spark.

I watched " SAW " on tuesday and was very pleased! What an ending! The re-release of " Donnie Darko " was great as well!

It is such a let down when you advise your friends to see "this brilliant film which will blow your mind away" and they return from it unimpressed. I once made my friends drive to another town to see The Bad Lieutenant and they hated it. I don't implore friends to go see films I love too often anymore.

I'm waiting for the right time to spring the extended Lord Of The Rings on friends who hav'nt seen it. Of course, as well as all the wonderful spectacle and charactors, there's a lot of plot and dialogue going on that probably confuses a lot of people with no interest in the books. The trilogy is so long and involving, you kind of have to stick the kettle on and settle down and pay attention!

I'm going with the majority on Fargo here. It didn't really grab me the first time I saw it, but I gave it another chance and now have no hesitation in calling it a classic. Frances McDormand is actually wonderfully subtle and likable, I didn't find her annoying at all, and I agree that William H Macy is superb - he always is. Steve Buscemi's also great, he's still one of my favourite actors. It's a very atmospheric movie, mostly because of the huge amounts of white involved on-screen.
I'd suggest 'based on a true story' to have more pronounced inverted commas though, Mike.

I watched Kill Bill 2 last night, thoroughly enjoyed it as with the first. It's a loss less violent, but the Tarantino dialogues are more in place. I especially enjoyed the ending in Bill's villa, discussing Superman. I thought David Carradine and Michael Madsen were particularly clever - the way in which you begin to feel sorry for Bud right up until the time he shoots Uma... The Pai Mei scenes were pretty good as well.
Now, I'm off to practice my Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.

Doesn't Steve Buscemi pick good movies? He never seems to pick a bad one.

I just watched Anchorman and did not pee my pants laughing as I thought I would.

There I said it, no doubt there will now be further mud slinging and name calling.

you must see Living In Oblivion, my favorite movie... (Steve is the lead)

I just watched the Green Mile on Tv, so it was censored a bit, but I thought is was good...

I knew someone would say Conair, but I like that film. Try again,

Thanks for the recommendation LBF.

EDIT: I just searched for it on Amazon, and they only have NTSC copies. Damn it.

I just watched Supersize Me. I now feel the peverse compulsion, despite having not eaten from the golden arches in probably over a year, to eat a big mac - I also want to throw up & go vegan after watching it. That was quite a frightening documentary.

I watched two hashsellers warming their hands off the fire of the roast chicken place on Escudellers and shouting fag in Spanish at an elderly Pakistani pushing himself backwards down the street on his wheelchair with his one leg.

I watched House Of 100 Corpses last night and I was dissapointed again. I saw some good reviews for this when it came out, but it's just a rip-off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (even set around the same time), but not half as good. It's not even as good as the TCM remake. It's supposed to be sick, but isn't. It's supposed to be scary, but isn't. I found myself waiting for it to end. Rather boring really.

I guess only the Japanese can make great horror at the moment.

Yesterday I saw one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was a spanish flick called La Secta Sin Nombre (The Nameless in english). I've never tried making a Bottom 3 Movies list but this one would be in it (OK, let's try: 1) The Patriot; 2) The Nameless; 3) The 5th Element). It seems the movie won several prizes in festivals and it leaves me speechless.

Quite sane. I didn't like 5th Element either, it was like being fucked in the eye. Speaking of which, put the remake of Moulin Rouge on the list too.

If they'd paid the same attention to the script as the costumes it would have been formidable.
