Ramona, if you still need Word, I could send you Microsoft Office X.
If you need more illegal copies of apps, let me know

Just so ya know, the MS Office suite sucks on Mac. It's always crashing. There is a open source (free) mac version of this that is compatible w/MS Office apps though. You might want to try that instead. Or at least try it out. I have to admit I haven't installed it yet, but I don't generally have use for those type apps anymore. The only drawback is that they just decided not to keep developing it.
If you're curious to at least try it: www.openoffice.org find help here: www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2003/02/07/x11.html
One thing I can definitely recommend from experience is Fire http://fire.sourceforge.net/ It's a free mac multiclient chat app that is FAR superior to AIM. You just download and add whatever AIM, yahoo, MSN etc. accounts you already have, or set up more, and you can use them all at once. It's very stable and safe compared to Aim's or MSN's chat apps. Lots of nice options too.

Apl4eris...your office always crashes? you might have to install the updates from mactopia.com or reinstall. I had this prob. when I first got my g4 tower but not on my powerbook...after a reinstall and online update, all was peachy... |

yeah, I'm sure you have a point there. I just never use it enough to care, and I kept meaning to install Open Office instead so I let it go. Now it looks like it (OpenOffice) won't be kept up anymore, which sucks. I like to have alternatives available, ya know?

yup, OpenOffice was allright...i hate it when good 3rd party apps aren't updated or let go...ESPECIALLY when you rely on 'em everyday!
:)
I s'pose we could always use appleworks so our windows friends could never read what we write! |

It's still being updated for Linux, isn't it? I think I got some updates about a month ago. |

Not to mention the fact that it's dead-on true. |

it's a little exaggerated i'd say. but partially true. which is why it's funny.
personally i couldn't be happier with my powerbook G4, so i'm not complaining.. most of the systems i use for work are macs, so for me it only makes sense..
theoretically, i would consider getting a PC, in another life, but then i don't know if i'd want to sacrifice getting laid more

I am going to be buying a lap top soon, for when (if) i go to uni. Ive pondered the idea of macs, but i dont really know enought about them to spend that sort of money.
I would basically use my lap top for essays and the like, but also id be using photoshop, and have music on there....im also considering putting Adobe Premier Pro on there, so i can edit films at home...
My main concerns are is a mac could take all that? What sort of mac is best? Also i have a 256 USB pen - does it not screw things up, ttrying to take them from macs to PCs and visa versa....

Mac has USB (had it before most PCs) and is better for film editting than PCs (I think). At least that is one of the markets that Apple has held onto over the years. You do pay more for a Mac. |

Gypsy, macs were made for that stuff! You can run all those apps on either a higher end iBook or powerbook...get what you can afford, of course but don't scrimp on RAM.
macs rock...and are VERY easy to use. remember, you can always post here w/ questions:) |
