I have one of those brains that likes to run through problems and not let me sleep until I've either thought of a solution or decided it was a dumb problem.
It's 05:14 (am) and I came up with this: The Black Hole. I've been watching the forum and thinking about the problems posed in the thread about forum change. You have two halves as I see it, the half that dislikes the 'nothing' threads and derailment and the half that finds it all very funny and entertaining.
So what can anyone do? I don't think stopping people talking about what they want to talk about is viable. And some of the 'old schoolers' don't want to not be active in the forum.
Often I hear mention of the henhouse, I went back and read through (not all 103 pages) but some of it to see what sort of a thread it was, because this thread was so highly advocated by some I thought it might be worth starting an alternative, hence the black hole.
I guess it's an experiment. The way I think it could work is by bringing up some of the things that people seem to think do not warrant a thread of their own, in here instead. Highlighting it as a topic someone wants to discuss and taking it from there, something like:

Checkout girls, really hot or really rough, no middleground?
------------------------------------------------------------------
followed by the point you would make followed by the usual thread 'noise'
I don't know how well this would work, I don't know if the mods will like it. It's all I can think of right now. It's a very scientific experiment if you will, and scientific progress as we all know goes boink.

It sounds fine to me, although I doubt it will put an end to other nonsense threads.
As for checkout girls, I think they vary just as much as any other girls.

i had a major crush on the checkout girl at the local Giant Eagle supermarket when i was living in Pittsburgh - Amanda. Oh man how she was cute. All my roommates had crushes on her too. The sick thing was she was probably 18 and we were 22 and should have not been checking out the checkout girl since 2/3 of us had girlfriends. we almost invited her to our final house party of the year but chickened out. ah, Amanda.

I'm not a medical assistant, butthead! The assistants at my dentist's office tend to lean heavily on the "fat and over 50" side, so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. And I only go to doctors that employ nurses.
I was a checkout girl for about a month when I was 15. Lots of high school students working there, we were all treadin' the middleground.
Will all topics in this thread revolve around hotness or lack thereof?

ok, more specific: dental assistnats vs. nurses and medical staff
in my experience, it is a sharp contrast

thank you, floop. i did notice. you're the hottest, uh, quesadilla master/editor (you're an editor, right?) i know. also the only quesadilla master/editor i know. but still the hottest. and not a butthead, i was just goofing around.
medical staff (who work the floors) get fat because of the long shifts and stress. it was fun watching everyone blow up while i was in nursing school. its inevitable, really. i have a certain weight in mind and as soon as i cross it i'm getting a different job. but not as a medical assistant. never that.

I keep fucking up.
Sometimes I go through old threads and reply to what's been said or to the last post. I don't look at the date of last post, it's not relevant to me most times, just what's being said. I swear it's only because the thread interests me, and i have an opinion on the topic.
But, I've noticed I seem to p*** some people off who don't like reading old threads, or my posts. Haven't yet worked that one out.
So I was wondering if some of you who have been here a while, could you give me a few tips on this forum's ettiquette so i can stop, unintentionally, pissing folk off.
(Do threads have sell by dates, for instance? Should they?)

You "old-schoolers" have a way of saying things that can have several meanings.
me being me, i always read between the lines and find the negative. it's a flaw.
i've had a few similar responses to my posts on old topics that really were annoyed members.
sometimes it's hard to know who's joking and who isn't. it's a very blurry line.

So you know, sometimes I try to write something funny or clever and it just doesn't come out. So next time you read a post by us french/spanish/portuguese/whatever members (Except Monsieur who can actually write in english), don't worry if you don't understand or take it negatively. We didn't mean it.
Oh, another thing... You know what really pisses me off? It's when people call me "vilainde" even though I sign every bloody single post I write with my actual name. My name's Denis. Call me that. The only solution is to ban all French members from posting.
FBC, your etiquette has always seemed just fine to me. I think the people who you feel have been nasty to you in here would certainly never treat you like that face to face. I haven't read the thread you're referencing in your posts, but if someone gets upset at something as trivial as you posting in an old thread, that's their problem and not yours.

about posting and going off topic and etiquette and who has been here a week versus from day one and what is the right way to post and the right way to fucking breathe, and I will quit this forum. Which would make way too many people happy, I know.
Can't we just be ourselves, do our best, have some fun
and, yes, at times unintentionally upset one another?
