The Predator uses weapons for the same reason that we do, because we are more intelligent than the Aliens. If the Aliens were bright, they would using anything they could to their advantage. The aliens are not capable of inventing and producing weapons (although technically it comes with it's own already given to it, so your argument is crap really). This is also why he forms an aliance, he will do anything for victory (smart cookie). The Alien is just a dumb dog-like animal.
And no the ending does not suggest that the Alien won at all. At the end there is one tiny baby alien left and thousands of Predators. The baba is not gonna last too long methinks.
Let's continue this outside. I'm signing into msn now, you had better be there.

I could also add GBV to this list, although I don't like all their stuff, there's some great great tracks. Cut Out Witch, Everywhere With Helicopters, Twilight ..., well you get the idea.

They are a band I have been meaning to check out for sometime. So much to download though.

I'll tell you something which causes me immense personal anguish. I have a particular loathing for Busted, and everything they stand for, but I listen to '3am' and think, "if only another band could have written this song - it would have been pretty good".
The other one is my imaginary girlfriend Natasha Bedingfield, but that goes without saying.

Have you ever listened to Document? If you only listen to later day REM I can understand that you cannot get into them much.

REM's Life's Rich Pageant is where I started to love REM. I had been kind of cool to them upon hearing Fables of the Reconstructions. It's hard for me to get into their new stuff without their drummer. All of the old cd's are great once you initially get into them, I think. |

ok, this is embarrassing, but when the movie Titanic came out, I actually liked the Celine Dion song a lot. |

I get very tired of the voices that I hear a lot on the radio, but I thinkI didn't gave them a good listen...but about Celine Dion, That is almost a sin, I will NEVER LISTEN TO THAT! My years wouldn't allow that! Sorry, this should be in another thread, bands you wanted but you couldn't like.

I really wanted to hate Led Zeppelin. I hated the stereotypical pot-smoking, old-school Led Zeppelin fan. I hated how overrated Stairway was and I just didn't want to associate with them at all.
But "When The Levee Breaks" increased my respect for them about one millionfold. |

Mike, just go check out their Best of, I think that's a good way to get into GBV.

And When The Levee Breaks is totally underrated. I'm okay with the fame Stairway has garnered, though, I love that song.

Placebo irritated me, but a friend got into them and I started to hear them a lot over at his house, and ended up liking them a lot. |

It baffles me that GBV is mentionned in this thread. How on earth can they be anybody's pick for a band you desperately don't want to like?
In fact, the same goes for Wilco, REM,... You don't want to like them because too many people already do? That's the only reason I can think of, and it's a pretty lame one.
Now, if this thread had been called "bands you thought you wouldn't like,...", I can understand (but not necesserily agree with) most of the previous posts.
I guess the only band I don't want to like is Guns N'Roses. I do enjoy about half of Appetite for Destruction nowadays, but that still doesn't mean I like them. |

GBV and Daniel Johnson just for the simple fact that my buddy nearly always gets there first and gets it so right. He got me into The Pixies. I didnt want to like them either and look at me now, posting in a Frank Black forum.

Ditto. In fact, I believe I mentioned that earlier. That it was about the one band my friend was a fan of and I wasn't. It's nice to have a FEW differences. :) I have no problem with how many people like them.
Homer, the name of the best of is Human Amusement at Hourly Rates.
I've never even heard of Daniel Johnson.

Who doesn't want to like Daniel Johnston?
Most recent artist I didn't want to like but ended up liking: Gwen Stefani. She's the singer of No Doubt, forgodssake! She sang a duet with fucking Moby! And yet I'm starting to like her. The first single from her solo album is cool (What You Waiting For), although the new one with Eve sucks. I think I'll download her new album and then maybe -gasp- buy it.

Daniel Johnson has been around for years upon years and has lots of albums. Even though his earlier stuff is better, it is easier to get into his latter stuff and work backwards. www.hihowareyou.com is his official website. Frank likes him.

I tried hard to hate the smiths also, I used to love them and then got put off them by this annoying bitch so fell out of love for many years, then realised that was ridiculous so embrace it again.
Rita though, no R.E.M. really?

Yes yes yes. Why has no one kicked her ass for this? Because it's wicked catchy? As a radio song, I like it. But it bothers me that she stole the vocal melody from Hash Pipe (not that I'm a huge Weezer fan, it's the principle).

oh come on, monkey. how can you NOT hear that? just the opening vocals, not the song in general. she didn't even try to hide it.
it is damn catchy, though.

I'd have to hear it again from the start. I guess I'll get the opportunity soon though 'cos my sister wants me to download the album off Limewire for her.
