The Killers Hope Of The States Doves Franz Ferdinand
Hmm, this last year I have mostly been a sucker for trendy new bands. Maybe I should start buying the NME.

Going way back. I hated Duran Duran as a kid. Now I kind of like them. Nostalagia is a destructive force. |

Second the Modest Mouse nomination. Too bad they had to go and make a terrific record. Bastards. |

Ah, good call with Scissor Sisters. Do you remember hearing that the Next Big Thing was a band doing a disco Pink Floyd cover? Remember how you laughed?
The Arcade Fire album is on its way to me now, I'm looking forward to it.

I third that Modest Mouse. I still haven't heard Good News, but I spun an old copy of the Lonesome Crowded West today, and was pleasantly surprised. My other vote goes to Wilco. I didn't really care for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but I've been listening to A Ghost is Born for about three or four days now, and find it really fun.

When I was a kid I hated Adam & The Ants becuase I saw him as a rival to Shakin' Stevens. Now I realise the error of my ways. He was way better than Stevens. Some of his songs are brilliant.
Also didn't like Smashing Pumpkins at first (hated his voice) but then I heard Siamese Dream and realised that they were quite good. Now I think that album is excellent, as is half of the follow up, MATIS.

Ah Mike, good times with Adam & The Ants meets Christmas parties...
I meant to issue a retraction of any mocking we did of you in the summer about the Killers. I can't remember if it was them or the Kills you were obsessed with, but if it was the Killers, I'm man enough to admit I was wrong, its awesome.

Scissor Sisters are in my "Bands You Wanted To Like But Don't" list. Laura was fantastic (was released first originally) but the others were poo.

I'm happy to contribute Modest mouse to floop's peripheral list, despite the efforts of all and sundry to try and persuade me.

believe me, it was hard to accept it. and it's not something i'll readily admit, publicly. but the recent album is undeniably good. most of it anyway.
(don't tell anyone i said that)

how many times do you have to play good news before it's good? i gave it 4-5 spins, maybe 6. then my room-mate brings home a copy and says he digs it, and i remind him i played it for him 4 months ago (to uhhhh, it's ok reviews) and he says "i knew it sounded familiar". grrrrr.
Rat: do you have any regrets? Pig: no, but i had a parrot once Rat: that made absolutely no sense Pig: well, it made sense to me until i learned he couldn't talk Rat: i wish you couldn't talk Pig: you would've liked my parrot |

i used to hate the smashing pumpkings, but their songs are so damn good that i just gave in. i used to hate nookie by limp bizkit, then i loved it and bought all thier albums. of course, i hate them again now. so it was a complete circle. oh and i never much cared for the white stripes until elephant. that was a good record.

I second that.
Bands I didn't want to like but ended up liking: The Libertines Britney Spears Gwen Stefani (not the songs, I haven't heard them, but I like the girl) and a lot of 80's bands I thought I'd hate (PSB, Electronic and all that stuff)

The Thrills got me singing along to 'Big Sur', luck of the Irish. I stopped short of Corey Haim though. They won and lost me with BS.
I agree too about the Doves, even though they got so Cd:uk after Lost Souls, didn't mind few of their SubSub songs either. |

She will hate them even more when they go on to be remembered for years to come. It's one of a few strange things about Tre that I have never really understood. I credit her with some taste, so it's odd. She also thinks that an Alien is deadlier than a Predator. Oh how I laughed.

As far as the libertines are concerned I think they're very boring and over hyped, I was indifferent to the music but the continual hype has led to hate. I'm sick of the constant Doherty fuck up/rehabilitation/fuck up stories, I'm sick of the 'I love him/he's out/I love him stories and the New Tour/No show/New tour stories and am so glad it's all over. That boy wants a smack in the mouth, and I mean the kind of smack he doesn't like, the scrutter.
As far as the Alien is concerned Mikey, in AVP 1) one alien took out two predators single handed 2) alien did not have to form any human aliances 3) alien did not resort to toys and bombs to take out a predator 4) the ending shows that in that battle an alien was victorious
soooo. Alien good, predator bad
