When asked my name while making a reservation at a restaurant, I always say "Simpson." Inevitably I'm asked "How do you spell that" and I say "Like Homer."
Do you ever use a different name?

i'm always tempted when going to places like shows and restaurants to give a false name, but i never have. i like the idea of being someone else temporarily - but i always chicken out.

I have a standard fake name that originated from abusing a gym's free-week policy. Having already had a trial week under my real name, I thought I'd just go in and give them a different name. I didn't really think it through though and got to the counter where she asked my name. Tim. Last name? Damn! Snag... ruff? OK, sir, how do you spell that. Uh, exactly as it sounds.... s... n.. a.. g... uh... r. a f f.
Since then, whenever I don't want to give some company my real name, I bring out Tim. Which admittedly isn't all that often.

I am guessing Daisy Girl counts? Yeah, I forgot, back in my single days, I would make up different names when ever a guy that seemed sketchy or a guy I wasn't interested in would hit on me. Sometimes we pretended to be Spanish or French too. Sometimes I would make up a whole new life story. It was a hoot. |

i have one that started a long time ago: Sam Frank. inspired by this smelly, semi-homeless, bearded guy who was applying for a job at a book store. he kept saying to guy behind the counter, "my name is SAM FRANK! SAM.. FRANK!!!" almost shouting. you had to be there but it was fucking funny.
i use that all the time. whenever i call my friends at work and the receptionist asks me who i am i'm like, "This is Sam Frank, from Sam Frank Industries".. it gives me pleasure to know that she's paging my friend on the pa system with that announcement.

I worked in a bookshop and whenever I´d have to mail books to the States I was required to sign my name and write that the book was anthraxfree and the like, so I used the pseudonym Paul Auster used for his first, for-the-money-only detective novel, Paul Benjamin.

I have weird last name that is screwed up 90% of the time, so if I have to leave a last name I usually leave "Starr" with 2 r's to keep them on their toes. Also, I sometimes don't like my first name (Barney) so I occassionally use "Tom" at fast food restaurants. |

Both my maiden name and married name get butchered, so we go for Simpson. "Like Homer, not OJ." I'm surprised that more people don't do this. I know someone whose last name is Red and he'll say "like the color" and people will give him a blank look or spell it wrong! How do you spell "Red" wrong?

I would be nervous to use a name that had any permutation of the word "masturbate" in it. Can't you hear the Maitre D' calling "Master Bateman, your table for one is ready!"

And if he shouts, "Mr Patrick Bateman, your table is ready", the whole room will clear and I'll be left to enjoy my meal in peace.

I had to Google search just to find out who the hell you were on about then.
Then again, I bet you had to do that too huh (or are going to now)?

I used the pseudonym "Damon Z. Pythias" on a few stories I wrote, but I got kind of tired of it, and nothing significant ever happened with those stories.

Anybody remember the Jerky Boys, inspiration for the prank calls to Moe's Tavern?

This high ranking guy where I worked was named Seymour and I had to do the Homer Simpson thing of telling myself over and over to be careful ("Don't say Seymour Butts!" "Don't say Seymour Butts!") every time he came from corporate for a site visit.

Kiki. Kiki McCaffrey. That's my name and I like to use it at every given opportunity. For starters, it reminds Dayanara who McDave chose.
