Well the tour officially ended at 2:45 am 12/19/04 with Gigantic.
It's early/late and time for sleep, got a party at my house to host tomorrow. RAWK!
Anyone decipher what they where saying at the end of the show, the chatter back and fourth.

Thomas so wonderful to meet you. Glad you made it home.... we just got in and I had to check the forum to see what is going on.
I hear you about sleep... so I am going to keep this short and sweet.
Both shows were OUTSTANDING. I personally Liked the first better b/c I was on the balcony and had a good view and more room to dance arounde vs. the floor for the second!!
What I caught at the end was they were saying good night to each other... I may be wrong. Not sure if there was any thing else there tho... guess we will hear when we get the pixiesdiscs.com. I can't wait to hear those last two shows... |

Good Morning everyone. Nice "meeting" you to Daisy.
What a show indeed. We got on line early so we were able to make it to the front, but not on the rail like I wanted. We were right infront of Joey.
50 Wave. I might have like them, but couldn't hear a damn word she was saying. Vocals sucked. Big thumbs down.
Pixies started off just fine until Sloth here desided he was going to push his way to the front by any means, but I wasn't budging. He did push alot of people out of the way and we were next. If you're 6'5" and the fourth person deep you are close enough stop the pushing. After a few more songs I guess he realized I wasn't gonna fall for his tactics so he stopped.
All in all I had a great time.

The late show ROCKED!!! I can't believe how good they all sounded together. Frank's wails were impeccable, Kim's voice was ethereal, even between cigarettes. Was anyone sober enough to keep a set list? I couldn't for the life of me remember which song they opened with.
My only wishes: Alec Eiffel Holiday Song
Any thoughts on the best song of the night? I say "Tame"... |

The late show was great - big ups to Daisy Girl, Echo Park and Cult of Frank! Here is the out of order setlist:
Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) In Heaven (Kim vocals) La La Love You Here Comes Your Man Winterlong Nimrod's Son Mr. Grieves Dead U Mass Something Against You I Bleed Cactus Bone Machine Subbacultcha Crackity Jones Caribou Gouge Away Broken Face River Euphrates Wave of Mutliation (Doolittle) Monkey Gone to Heaven Velouria Where is my Mind? Vamos ---------------------- Gigantic
Notes:
There was some girl doing stripper-ish dance moves on the one VIP balcony that was indirectly in my line of sight - it made things very difficult to concentrate
Celebrity spotting of the night - Jackass' own Johnny Knoxville
Charles was ripping his throat apart w/ the screaming - it was the most intense i've ever heard him - "Dead," "Tame" and "Something Against You" were just brutal.
The band was all dressed up in black (black).
A big thanks to the afformentioned FB.net people, as well as Sean and everyone from Pixiesmusic who managed to get us to hang out backstage a bit. It was a ton of fun, and talking to Charles was an experience i'll never forget. Here is the evidence:
The cream colored jacket'd man is Deaner and the lovely lady in the bottom right is Daisy Girl.
More when i'm not totally spent...

Sweet fancy Jesus. Were you backstage before the show or after? What did you talk about? Did you talk about us? You talked about us, right?
For a second there I though Daisy had casually rested her hand on Charles' upper thigh. For an just instant, I was murderously jealous.

Simply unbelievable. I have to say that Pixies rocked out harder than any other night I've seen them yet. The late show was phenomenal. Some folk over a pixiesmusic.com are claiming the show sucked because it was the same old setlist. Who honestly cares? To see the Pixies reign over a packed house on the eve of the final show on this tour is worth its weight in gold and various other expensive substances. "Tame" was probably the hardest I've ever heard it before. I was right up front against the barricade on the floor, and I'd have to disagree with ya, Thomas. I liked 50 Foot Wave. Yes, the vocals were definitely turned down but I think that 50 Foot Wave is someting more of an acquired taste. The "BUG EP" is great. Back to Pixies, the band did their goodbyes during "Gigantic", and it was particularly cool to see them all in black. One weird thing that struck me as a bit bizarre was that the crowd didn't really begin to jump and surge around until "Monkey Gone To Heaven" was played, which I think was about half way through the set. After that, everything went blurry and crazy, it was great. What a great way to end off a freakin' awesome tour. |

I must disagree. You people on the rail were lucky not to feel it. It started on Dead as I mentioned in my details above with Sloth. The crowd was moving much more than when I saw them on the 12th.
as for 50 Wave, I'd probably would have liked them, but since I couldn't hear it I thought it was bad. I blame their sound person.

Yeah, I guess we were pretty lucky not to feel it until mid set. I got beaten pretty badly once everyone decided to push for the front. Left forearm entirely bruised, cuts all over my wrists and palms, bruised ribs. ALL entirely worth it though. Sloth guy sounds like a dick. Some jerk was kept dialing up some number with his cell phone and letting it listen to the entire show. I don't know if the guy was recording the concert over the phone (what's the point, horrible recording method) or if he was just playing it for others over the phone. Either way, the jerk should have had more respect for the band. It 's got to be annoying when your playing as best you can and some idiot is bouncing around with a cell phone in his hand, giving a free show to a dorm room full of cheap jerks. |

Awww... wow Broken face... thanks so much for the pic!!!!
Thanks Rita.
Dayanara, no I didn't touch his thigh, I think were both pretty happy in our own relationships, But being the touchy feely person I am, I touched his arm and well read the rest sweetie!
Everyone, I am totally humbled an honored about this whole thing.
It's funny, I jokingly described the meeting to my husband as the Braidy Bunch episode where Marcia Meets Davy Jones from the Monkeys, minus the crush!
That is so cool!!! Wow photographic evidence of meeting the KING! It was the first time I had met Frank Black. My teenage concert dreams came true! How better can it get than two shows in one night and meeting the greatest singer song writer ever!
I feel so lucky, much thanks to Cult of Frank and Mad Tempest for hooking everything up.
Sweet Miss Violet, if you happen to read this or hear about this. I hope by now you are back in the arms of your honey!! Hope you are feeling well.
Wow, here's the deal. We met up in Cult of Frank's room and hung out for awhile. I must say I love meeting up with other people from the FBF. Then we met up with Mad Tempest and everyone else from pixiesmusic.com. I only knew a few people from there, but it was great meeting everyone. Especially Spiral Daisy who was an absolute cutie and sweetheart.
After hanging out awhile there, we walked a few blocks to the Hammerstein.
We were met by the documentary crew filming the DVD at the back door, they followed us in and I hung near the back, I was so giddy But trying to keep it under wraps and be cool at the same time. Two highly caffeinated drinks also had me really wound up.
So I hung near the back with Fudd and his two sons. (Sorry I forgot your screen names guys!!!)
We were all getting our digital cameras and stuff for Frank to sign out.(Which we ended up not having a chance to get to.) I had picked up a bunch of really cool posters on the way out of the first gig, I had gotten a whole bunch gave them out to fellow fans. And kept two. One for me and one for the fab person that helped me get the tickets to the Fineline show. (Unfortunatley I left them in convenient mart where Broken Face, Echo Park, myself and my husband went to grab some water before parting ways after an amazing night!!)
I was just trying to hang near the back. We hiked up three sets of stairs to a very narrow and long dressing room.
They told us to have a seat, and we waited for I am guessing 10 minutes or so. It was so cool hanging out with all the fans and we definitely had an instant rapport between us, regardless of what forum we mostly use or age or what ever.
So, am kinda sitting there and being nervous, I am thinking in my head¡K like I have been thinking all day. What do I say to the man??? What can I say that will be poignant and will burn a snapshot in his mind of who I make a great impression and he might have a small chance of remembering me.
So Frank walks in Since I came in last, I was sitting by the door and could see him right I way.
He walks through the dressing room, and shakes everyone's hands. Then he doubles back and sits next to me in a chair.
The DVD crew is filming all of this and I am like, man, am here next to this legend, and man I don't want to say anything stupid to be preserved forever.
So we get chatting and it was a casual and cool. I keep telling my self this ain't Crossfire so keep it casual. Don't rapid fire all the questions you really want to ask like tell me all about your alien encounter, tell me all about Violet and how she is doing these days, how have you changed as a person since the early days? I also didn't want to ask anything too personal. Or gush all the ways I always thought I would gush to him and all the special personal sentimental reasons that makes the music so special to me. On the other hand I wanted to ask him personal questions like how are you feeling? Have you been able to take care of your self on the road, or is it hard? Are you happy where you are?
I also didn't want to ask anything too personal, like I notice the engagement ring/wedding band on your finger is now metal, probably either platinum or titanium instead of the one that looked more like a thick black rubber band ring earlier this year. He still called Violet his girlfriend, so I am guessing at least for now, the nice band is an engagement ring.
Dayanara, I am so sorry, we didn¡¦t have a chance to talk about you on the forum and since it was being taped, so we didn't get a chance to fit it in so sorry!
So he sits down next to me in the chair, and it was just like so cool. Dean filmed some of it so we might work on putting some of it on the web.
It was funny because he joked that at first he thought the meeting was with dot.coms, and he thought it was a business deal. He seemed to be refreshed it was just a bunch of people from Frank Black Forum and Pixiesmusic.com
And we were honored and impressed he had the time to meet with us.
But it was just so cool, it was just almost like shooting the breeze with a friend you haven't caught up with for a few months.
It was comfortable and relaxed. We just chit-chatted and asked questions. It was laid back and chill.
I don't remember everything. But it was really cool.
Frank mentioned that Violet and Frank will be having a boy, and they will be naming him Jack. Which we all agreed was a very cool name. Then, I can't remember if it was Frank or someone else that joked that he would be known as Jack Black and how there is an actor with the same name.
Echo Park asked a lot of really good music related questions. I can't remember who asked but of course the topic of Honeycomb coming out in 2005. I think it was Broken Face that brought up that it's been leaked on the internet. This was new news to Frank but he kinda had a casual oh well attitude about the whole thing.
Someone asked about the Catholics, and he said he hasn't talked to them in awhile.
I remember asking him about some memorable times during the tour. He talked about when they in Iceland the band had time for one of their only breaks together on tour. They were shown around into the hinterlands. Frank said it was one of the coolest places he's been. It was really cool hearing him talk about it and it was and I could almost picture being there. It was surprising to learn that only foxes and birds are native to Iceland.
Someone asked him what type of music he's been listening to lately and he said Jazz. He mentioned an act he has discovered lately, but I forgot what it is. I wish I would have asked him more about this, such as are you new to Jazz or have you always liked it? Is this passion going to have more of an influence on your music?
I tried asking a question, but it came out wrong about Bam Thwok. I was trying to get at the rumor that the Pixies may have recorded another song Frank wrote for Shrek II when they recorded Bam Thwok. But it came across wrong. But Frank mentioned that they haven't been playing Bam Thwok lately because since it's new and not as well known, the crowd doesn't respond to it the same as it does the other songs in the rotation. Because of this Kim doesn't like playing it.
Then someone asked if the Pixies have been rehearsing any new material and Frank said no. Usually since they quit going to sound checks a few months ago, they really for the most part hang out only on stage. But on the otherhand, he didn't rule anything out, either.
Last, but not definitely least, Kim and her other band the Breeders are planning to release a new album!!! Frank mentioned that Kim and Kelly have been working together with another Breeder and collaborating for the new rerecording.
It was cool because Frank talked a lot about what life on the road is like.
He says they all go to Starbucks all the time. Kim brings in Starbucks for everyone. He said Kim and Kelly mostly hang out in Kim's Dressing room and hang out all night knitting after shows.
In the Ryder, Dave is supposed to get a new deck of cards at each venue. He doesn't always get them, but when he does he's really happy because after some time, they get a little greasy from doing too many magic tricks. He says Dave has been known to hang out around the venue. In New York, he would hang out at a bus stop and do card tricks for people waiting for the bus.
He says Joey is recording a sound track on a documentary on snake handling. He says from time to time, Kim and Frank will go in and help him out.
He says they do come down to the dressing room shared by Dave, Joey and Frank because that's where the food is and they have Hummus and lots of Cheese. Then Frank said something like we've had hummus on our Rider since 89.
Here is the first time when Daisy girl inserted foot into mouth..I tried to make a factious remark about how they were ahead of their time with their food just like their music and it came out wrong. Then I jokingly was like you're gonna edit that part out right? Wish those video tapes were like the fourm where you can just edit it right away.
Right about then, my cell phone went off and it was so embarrassing.
We chatted about other things. It was so amazing.
I accidentally touched his arm cuz I am a touchy feely person. So I felt bad, but he was cool with it. Then later on he touch my upper arm too. What a sweet, genuine, intelligent, funny guy!! I still can't believe I met Frank Black.
After awhile Frank said, it looks like the music has stopped. I need to go down and do my La La Las. (To warm up his voice.)
We all said good by and parted ways. Stunned and happy we were all In Heaven!!!
If you ever read this Frank, thanks it was so cool meeting you!

Sir Rockabye. You were definately very missed. From those who know you... they couldn't have enuff good things to say about you. Let's just say we really wish you could have made it and we know you could have been there if you could have made it.
I know so much about where you are at b/c a very similar thing happened to me with the Pixies back in the day. It is very hard when you come "this" close to seeing them and then you can't. I am so sorry. If there is anything I can do, let me know.
Since Fudd's post on Pixiesmusic jogged my memory, Frank said there is a show in August. They've gotten offered a lot of money for it and it is in a location that's going to be far away... I am thinking the moon or Mars would be cool. Just kidding. But it did seem pretty far away from the US. That seemed like the only show for 2005. Although nothing definate was said, I inferred, that there will be more Pixies shows to come.
Hope this helps. If you need to talk, let me know. Hang in there. |

Rita, I hope you do get to meet him.
It's funny because until yesterday, I never thought I would meet him, either.
Hopefully, some day, you will have the same chance. :) Never give up hope
I do feel very lucky and humbled by this chance.
Broken Face... I know what you're talking about... I her puppies kept falling out. I couldn't see anything stage wise and I kept staring, waiting for her or one of her friends to catch on... it became a game... how long would it take for her to notice. Poor thing.

Daisy, I thought I would never be having the chance to see them live, since I wasn't able to go their show in 1991 when they were here...and with this reunion I felt very lucky, and seeing them, even if it is only once, made me more complete...so I am very happy, and I'm very happy for you too!

You guys, I am so happy for you, I thought I'd be jealous, but I am thrilled on your behalf as well as grateful that you were so generous in sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with us through your posts.
Also, I hope this does not sound dorky or patronizing, but here's a heartfelt "thank you" to you all for representing the forum with such class. A few times backstage at other artists' shows, I've seen fans act like immature jerks but it's so obvious that you were the cool respectful uber-fans that you are and that you represented all of us with the right attitude and respect due to Frank.
Thank you again. I am so happy for you.
By the way, Jack Thompson is the, I think 8-year-old, son of Richard Thompson, my second-favorite musician.
I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank |

mammynuns you are SO right... Did you thinke he screamed even louder during the second show!!! I was amazed at both!!
Thanks so much Kathryn.
Dayanara, ok this is at the risk of me reading too much into what Frank was saying, but i think it was more like because he was busy and on tour. I know he said more about the Catholics, and hopefully someone can help fill the gaps. I am sorry for not remembering more mezmerized. So maybe someone can jump in and and help out.
Also someone emailed me... just wondering that is there a reason for being concerned for Violet. There is no reason to be concerned, except I know for some people the last month of prenancy can be uncomfortable.... if the cameras weren't there, I would have asked how she was doing in general.

here are my recollections to fill in a few gaps:
on the Catholics front:
-Rich Gilbert is moving to Nashville -Dave Philips is going out on the road w/ Tommy Stinson as a duo
on the Pixies front:
-"i'm trying to get those guys up to my studio in Oregon" -he made it sound like a tour next summer is pretty likely -Kim and her mom have been winning their Football Gambling Pool -they all like to gamble - David in particular likes slot machines -"i'll have to put a pool table in my studio or something to get the gambling element up there"
Random: -been listening to Bill Evans Trio a lot -not likely to tour for Honeycomb -"Jack" is due Jan. 24
i'll add more if i can think of anything...

Thanks for the support Daisy. I've been looking back on all of my complaints about not seeing the Pixies at this show, and I've realized how I've sort of made an ass of myself. It would seem that everytime people are getting excited about the Pixies, I have to interupt and request of everyone some pity for my inablity to attend. Althoug that is not my intent, I realize that is what I have done in the past week or so. Rita sent me a very encouraging email, which helped put everything in perspective, and I realize now how happy I am that I caught the Pixies twice on this tour. There is no point in dwelling on missing them this past Saturday. I apologize if my negativity has disheartened anyone, or made their Pixies experience less enjoyable. More importantly though, I second the motion of pride for our representatives to Frank. Way to make a great impression, on behalf of all of us.

I do indeed have some video and some pretty decent pics which I look forward to sharing with you and the PM people as soon as I figure out somewhere/way that I can share it without destroying the site in question. Maybe I'll put up a photo or two tonight temporarily before I dump a bunch in our FB.Net photo gallery.
But I just got in from NYC and am running on fumes, so don't expect a lot right now.
PS It was great to meet some of you and some of the PM people, Frank has not been in touch with the Catholics much, and was a really good sport about the whole interview thing.
If I hadn't been in such a rush, I'd've loved to get a photo of the two signs with arrows saying "Pixies Dressing Room" and "Kim's Dressing Room". Hopefully I can make up for it with some of these concert pics tho.

OK, here's some pics I snapped. I've sized 'em down (though they're still large), and they're not crystal clear, but I'm at a rock concert also rockin' out, so cut me some slack!

Goodbye For Now!
These pictures are not in the order taken (for example, the Gigantic photo actually comes after them saying goodbye which was before the first encore/Gigantic), but I thought they flowed well this way since there are a lot of missing photos.

That's beyond cool. One thing I don't get though, who put up this backstage meeting? Was it Dean or the guys from pixiesmusic.com? And how did they do that?

This has been a great year for Pixies/FB fans. I kinda want to cry when I think that it's over for now. But the future is bright.
Thanks for the the pix, too. |
