It was a lovely show. My heart stopped when they played River Euphrates. Sure, there were songs I never got to hear 'em play, songs that were both on setlists and not even in contention, but why complain? I never thought I'd see the day, and I'm still pinching myself. |

Denis, it was Sean from PixiesMusic that did all the work, I just worked with him to facilitate getting the FB.Net members I knew would be coming backstage with me.

Yay!! Back home in L.A. now. What a month. I busted my ass all over the east coast, working 87 hours last week and driving the whole way.
My reward? I happen to land in NYC in time for the last show. Score a ticket from a guy from Brooklyn, wow - stoked.
THEN DEAN CALLS... I had posted on the forum while looking for a ticky... I was looking forward to finally meeting him, having chatted a lot during the "You Aint Me" album, etc.
You folks may not realize this from his posts, but Dean is just about the coolest, warmest, realest guy you could meet. And I'm not saying that just 'cause he re-aquainted me with The Master that night!
Yeah - it was a really good hang, a great vibe. "Chucky" made us all feel very comfortable and the group converstaion was so relaxed. There was also a real monumental feeling just being upstairs in the theater between the last sets of the tour.
Daisy - I think your Hummus point was actually well received - I remember him acknowledging that their culinary tastes may have been ahead of their time.
Brian - I'm really glad you pressed him a bit on what he's been listening to. Bill Evans... who'da thought? I'm gonna hit up my jazzer pals for some of that. I'm really glad we could walk uptown a bit and eat at that diner where they only bring certain ingredients of your dish. I guess no one really orders Blackened Chicken for "breakfast".
Dean - thanks a ton, of course, great photos, and I look forward to hearing your track whatever stage it's in. Of course, the best thing would be for you to come down to L.A. and we'll track the pedal steel parts in person... wish we coulda hung out more but i guess we were all pretty beat by 5 am.
Whoever said it earlier was right - for a bunch of internet geek fans, we had a pretty thoughtful, heartfelt conversation.
Ciao for now!

Frank's interest in jazz and classical music isn't surprising, I think.
There's this old thing that some touring rock musicians often say. When you're out night after night for months and years at a time rocking out on stage, the last thing you want to hear when you're taking a break or have a day off is more rock music.
I'm happy for all you guys who hung out with the man. I'd be too fuckin' intimidated to ever get into a conversation with Frank so I like reading about others' chats with him. |

Sir Rockabye. You were definately very missed. From those who know you... they couldn't have enuff good things to say about you. Let's just say we really wish you could have made it and we know you could have been there if you could have made it.
I know so much about where you are at b/c a very similar thing happened to me with the Pixies back in the day. It is very hard when you come "this" close to seeing them and then you can't. I am so sorry. If there is anything I can do, let me know.
Since Fudd's post on Pixiesmusic jogged my memory, Frank said there is a show in August. They've gotten offered a lot of money for it and it is in a location that's going to be far away... I am thinking the moon or Mars would be cool. Just kidding. But it did seem pretty far away from the US. That seemed like the only show for 2005. Although nothing definate was said, I inferred, that there will be more Pixies shows to come.
Hope this helps. If you need to talk, let me know. Hang in there.
Thanks for the support Daisy. I've been looking back on all of my complaints about not seeing the Pixies at this show, and I've realized how I've sort of made an ass of myself. It would seem that everytime people are getting excited about the Pixies, I have to interupt and request of everyone some pity for my inablity to attend. Althoug that is not my intent, I realize that is what I have done in the past week or so. Rita sent me a very encouraging email, which helped put everything in perspective, and I realize now how happy I am that I caught the Pixies twice on this tour. There is no point in dwelling on missing them this past Saturday. I apologize if my negativity has disheartened anyone, or made their Pixies experience less enjoyable. More importantly though, I second the motion of pride for our representatives to Frank. Way to make a great impression, on behalf of all of us.
I will never say the word procrastinate again, I'll never see myself in the mirror with my eyes closed.
Sir Rockabye... I wish I had you as a role model when I didn't get a chance to see the when I was your age. You have a great attitude and not for a second does anyone think that you have a negative attidude. You are really well liked around here and all of us were bummed you couldn't go see the show and meet Frank when we heard of your change in plans.
When I found out I couldn't go to that show, it felt like the end of the world. You are way more mature.
I just know how much of a bummer it can be. But you definately have the right attidude that you will see them again some time.
I am so glad that Rita's email put it into perspective. Hopefully I can meet up with you at some point!!!
Cult of Frank. Thanks for the pics... wow they ROCK! Glad you made it home... hope you are resting up and getting over your cold.
SkateAlex... glad you had a blast at the show!!!!
Jason, thanks a lot!! The cool thing about talking to Frank is that he is so laid back and cool that he's pretty easy to talk with. But I gotta say even tough he's so approachable, I was a little nervous just cuz how many chances do you get to meet your favorite musican?

Hey, thanks for the kind words, both of yous. It really was great meeting up with you though I am leery of doing so again if only because I may dispossess you of your current illusions. :) Really, though, you were all great and I wish we'd met up on Friday or at least earlier Saturday. I had the fortune of having dinner at a fine New York eatery "I think it was called Chez Claire or BBQ or something" with Brian and also hanging out for awhile before, but I only met Eric and Kathleen and Mr. Kathleen (sorry, I forgot his name already!) about half an hour before the show.
I have some live video clips that I've assembled together from the meet and greet. Sorry there's not more, I had to conserve space for the concert itself. I also have more video from the actual show, but that'll have to wait a little until I can get it compressed but still looking/sounding good.
I'm going to provide a link here to the video. PLEASE right-click and "Save As" instead of just playing it in your window as bandwidth is limited. Matt has offered to host this as well, and if anyone else is also game, that's great. Once I've got a mirror or two up, I'll share this with PixiesMusic, but there are far more of them than us and I couldn't take a huge load like that right now on my server. Please post your mirrors here.

Heh, glad you got it working. Thanks for the mirror!
EDIT - I went over to post both on PixiesMusic but saw that you had posted already, feel free to add my mirror if you want to to your post.
I'll let you know about those other ones from the show itself in advance so we can simultaneously post em.

Looks like you all had a smashing time! Seems like getting a good pic of Dean is somewhat like getting a good pic of Bigfoot....

hey daisy girl! just wanna say...in that first pic of you (you in the bottom corner), you look a lot like a little pixie girl named bjork! haha...anyhow...thanks for letting us all live vicariously thru you...those thoughts you had runnin' thru your mind are exactly the ones that i woulda had (but prob wouldn't have been able to articulate as well). well, that's awesome. we went to the greek in la, and had an unexpected opportunity to get into the pit. had tix for irvine (pretty good ones, too), but couldn't end up going. i'm kicking myself now. :( waaaahhhhh!!! |

Thanks ultra7!! That's so cool. I haven't gotten that in awhile! Thanks for the compliment!!
Ohhh... being the luddite I am, I just figured out how to watch the video. Dean, this is coming from a former video tape editor, you did a fab job of shooting and editing the video. Excelent quality-- great editing... hmm maybe you can shoot and edit your bands videos for broadcast! Hehe Mr. Daisy's name is Derek :)
Echo Park it was so cool meeting you. Right now I am picturing you playing music in the incredibly warm LA weather. Every time I hear your flashlight joke... I crack up even more!
Ok... the one thing I don't like about the video is my darn head bobbing up and down like a bouey... that's what you get when you mix uber fandom and two energy drinks. Nervous enerergy.
Video documentary crew, if you EVER need to refilm this part... just ask and I am there. I'll also bring along better questions... (I am only 1/2 kidding)
Like-- what was it like when you met up with aliens? What are you looking to most in the next part of your career? How is being a daddy changing your life? What is your proudest career accomplishment? What was different this Pixies tour vs. the last Pixies tour...

It was a rushed job, but thanks anyway. I wish I had thought to just record it in lower quality and get the whole thing.
Note to self: Invest in tripod or stop trying to watch with your eyes instead of the viewfinder.

WOW!!!!!!! what a thread!!! I've only just come across it and WOW it sure seems you lot have been having a great time! Back in 1990 my tap on Franks shoulder and "have a good one" - "thanks" was my highlight but you lot!!!! Daisy sitting next to (and chatting & touching!!!) the man!!! totally fantastic.......Christmas has come early to all of you who were there Talking of Christmas have a good one, and I've really enjoyed reading your accounts of the night. Being a Mac owner I can seem to see the video stuff but who care I've read what was said and that's enough.
Well done to you all.........happy Christmas Lex (of London) |
