by taking a line or two from a song and using it as an album title?
it seems to me that rosa and doolittle were definitely titled that way
and 2 bands i can think of off the top of my head did it, both pixies influenced
nirvana "nevermind"
nada surf "let go"
of course it could all be coincidence though, i mean the titling process |

It's no coincidence I think, just what's the point of thinking for hours of a title when it's already there in a cool lyric. |

Doolittle was originally going to be titled "Whore," which still would have worked with Hey. But obviously they changed it.

Title TK is from Little Fury
Last Splash from Cannonball
still didn't find a pre-pixies title

Actually, if you listen really closely at about the 3:47 mark of Into the White, you can hear David saying ("Com-Plete-B-Hy-Phen-Sides" (à la P-I-X-I-E-S in Cactus). |

i read an interview where Frank said that a friend suggested the title Trompe Le Monde and he liked it. and subsequently changed the title of the song "Trompe Le Monde" to "Trompe Le Monde" (it was called something else before) so as to be (sort of) in keeping with their titling scheme.

david bowie's "the man who sold world" is titled like that....it comes from..(guess which song)........it comes from "the man who sold the world"
and this album was released in the 70's ... a bit before the pixies....

Yeah, but that one doesn't really count, does it, since the album and the song both have the same name. Now, if the album or song would have been called e.g. "face to face", you would have a point ;) |

haha, im not sure but i think youve forgotten: "radiohead: the bends". lyrics come from the song "the bends"" but i guess thats a bit like tht "the man who sold the world" one. and another one which is pretty much the same is "radiohead: my iron lung" lyrics come from the song "my iron lung"

I thought there was some significance behind Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde.
Bossanova, in a broad sense, has a very different style to Surfer or Doolittle, especially with the surf stuff. Bossanova translates to 'the new way', as in this new style is the Pixies new way.
Then of course Trompe came out with an almost metal feel at times, and certainly not that surfey music. That of course means 'Fool the World/Eye/whatever'.
It's kinda like a trick. You never know what them Pixenators will do!
