Yeah, I've been listening to DW & SMYT lately quite a bit. I have so much fun singing along to those two records and/or affecting a slightly gravelly tone.
Guess I've been listening to Whiskey In Your Shoes/The Snake most of those two albums.

"Handyman" from BRACE YOURSELF A Tribute to Otis Blackwell, produced by Jon Tiven (liner notes dated October 1993)
Yep, I'm now the proud owner of two versions of this Otis Blackwell classic.
I can't believe my good fortune. I went to, what has now become my favorite record store, Grimey's, this afternoon to hear the John Butler Trio play a free show prior to their 9 p.m. gig at a bar here in town. Well Johnny and the boys were a no-show, seems their plane was delayed in New Orleans, and they may not make the show tonight, however they were scheduled to be in town for a few days and they have re-scheduled their Grimey's appearance for Wednesday.
Anyway, I was looking around at the music and I found BRACE YOURSELF A Tribute to Otis Blackwell where Frank contributes covers of Handyman and Breathless and grabbed it quickly before anyone else could.
Now get this, this is the same place I got the John Peel Sessions Teenage Fanclub CD two weeks earlier. How fuckin' incredible is that, huh, two rare albums from The Man, just sitting there square, waiting to be plucked up by some lucky uber fan and it just so happened to be me!
They are of course two completely different versions of Handyman (and I aplogize if this has been talked about at some length on some other thread but I didn't find it when I did a search). The tribute album is produced by Jon Tiven.
And, on Breathless, yes The Man does two songs on the tribute, Frank is joined by his Honeycomb bandmate, Steve Cropper 1st solo guitar, along with Glen Matlock harmonies, Chris Spedding 2nd solo guitar,Crispin Cioe baritone sax, and Jon Tiven - riff guitar, together known as FRANK BLACK AND THE STAX PISTOLS (obvious reference to Stax Records, SoulsvilleUSA [http://soulsvilleusa.com/about-stax/]

Don't Clip Yo' Wings
It is so simple, yet beautiful.(emphasize the period) How the hell was this a b-side? But then again.. Never heard the real version.. just a live one. |

If It Takes All Night
A super great rock song.
the high voice, the guitar solo, the piano playing 8th notes, the drum fills. ...all essential for a super great rock song. |

Nice one, K. One song at a time please y'all
I Switched You
I only became fully appreciative of this song when I saw the Catholics in Birmingham many moons ago. I love the break near the end where it's just dave's bassline. And loved it more when it caught out the crowd and drew them into false applause. Had a ("ha! fools/Go Catholics") little chuckle to myself. |

"Pan American Highway"
I straight-love the: story guitar intro 123456 123 123456 feel back-up vocals in the background change in melody near the end slide guitar scary, then promising ending
The song gives me an empty feeling because of the bass line. You see, I'm naturally conditioned for a more punchy and lower bass line, due to living in a pop culture. I feel a resistance against all these unique elements Frank used in this song.
...but I enjoy the eccentricity.
I think most intentions go unnoticed.

And we call ourselves fans?!
Big red is one of the best Fb's voice and harmonies, the most sing along chorus ever, and a bucket.
What more do we want in a song?
