sylocibe, after reading your post about Nadine I had to listen to it again, right away, and, yeah, that keyboard takes that song to a higher place... |

Black Riiiiiiiiiiider!!!!!!!! Live, loud, lovely!
(VoVat, the solution to your problem is for you to be always listening to a Frank song, just as FBC and I do.)

Baby that's art
(I woke up this morning with this song in my head, this is the 3rd time that I've listened to it today, I figure if it's stuck in my head and I'm going to be singing it all day anyway, then I might as well listen to Frank sing it when I can) |

No, fbc, I don't think I have. I've been listening to the version that is on the Cult of Ray Extra CD, along with "Village of the Sun", "Everybody got the beat", and "Can I get a Witness".
I've got an original Oddballs CD but it is new and still wrapped, and I don't really want to open it. But, I can go to i-Tunes and get it. I just didn't know that Oddballs had a different version. That's great, I'll get it from i-tunes, maybe this weekend.
How 'bout "Village of the Sun" and "Can I get a Witness", are they great or what! I love the way he speaks the lyrics in Village (reminds me of Johnny Cash, or "Whisperin Bill Anderson", well maybe not "Whisperin Bill" but definitely Johnny Cash) except for the chorus, which he sings. And, Witness, damn he sounds just like Bob Dylan. |

I love every listen of 'Witness' like it was the very first time and 'village of the Sun'...well, it's like so many of The Man's songs. There are little subtle parts that to me make up one awesome whole. like the little solo bit in the middle where the song breaks, the way frank sings "to the powers that be", the keyboard/synths behind his voice, Oldman, i could go on and on
Oddball's 'Baby' is a little slower and starts with just Frank singing, bass and drums. quite a nice change. 'Handyman' on Oddballs 2 is a different version to any other i've heard before too, but i doubt i've heard them all
just mail me if you wanna hear that 'Baby!' and will mail your way, don't wanna be unwrapping that Oddball of yours one cd that will definately appreciate in price

Hey, thanks fbc, I appreciate that.
So, you mean the Oddballs version of songs is different than the versions from B-sides, EP's, and Albums with an extra CD? Wow, I didn't know that. It appears that I need to get over to i-tunes and download all of Oddballs. I've got every song on Oddballs from other releases, I just assumed the Oddballs version was the same. Thanks for the heads-up!

TOTY on shuffle, I haven't listened to it basically since i got it a while back and played it no stop for about a month. I always find with Frank the songs that are the hardest to get into when you first hear them always seem to be the ones you love the most... but that might be just me.
Who said anything about carving you up, man? I just wanted to carve a Z into your forehead... |

Changing of the Guards
I lost a cousin last night, Steve Dunn, massive heart attack, died in his wife's arms, 49 years young, he will be sorely missed.
I'm not sure what this song is about but it feels good right now, as this day comes to an end.
Death, the ultimate reality check...

Announcement
(actually, I listened to this on my way home from work and then again late tonight right before I fell asleep. I've just awaken in the middle of the night (3a.m.) I wanted to post this, if for no other reason, to let my brothers and sisters here at fb.net (fbc, Kathryn, and everyone else here) know that I carried Steve's casket, I cried with his Widow, and we're all going to make it through this with the help of family, friends, and God. So,....let the posting on this thread resume with the knowledge that life and death is a mystery and what we have to help us through this is each other.) [I realize the posting may not have stopped because of my posting of my cousin's death, but I didn't want anyone to have any reservations]
Announcement, absolutely without a doubt, the best instrumental intro of any song by The Man, (that I presently recall, anyway) somewhat of an "epic" feel to it, as if it is telling or summarizing someone's life. And, the lyrics, for me, tell a story of someone reflecting on absence and death.

Go Home Girl,...according to the DB, that's on the Arthur Alexander tribute album, which is available through Amazon. (these will be somewhat stupid questions) Is it a really good song and is the album any good, other than the Frank and Gary US Bonds' song?
I've got Dirty Old Town from some live bootleg, Beta Bar. Do you have some other version of it? |

Hey OldMan, no question too stupid for me. i'd still reply if i think it would help.
Dirty Old Town sounds like a boot from a concert, so putting 2 and 2 together to make 5, i presume its the same as your version. And regarding the Arthur Alexander song, "well now me and frank, we're the best of friends...", it's a nice little happy number in the country/catholic vein, verse chorus verse, you know what i mean. I'm going to try and track down some other numbers off the tribute album, see what i've been missing.
And the offer always stands, any song you want to hear, if i have it, it's yours too. Just mail away. |
