Awesome. Kind words for "Honeycomb." That doesn't happen often enough on this forum.

ANGST! I don't dance (it just feels unnatural to me)-but MAN! this song makes me wanna shake my booty! And that thing he does :29 in (on the SSMVGD version) on the word 'me'...I LOVE that!! It's those kinds of slightly odd sounds he makes that get me obsessed with one of his songs.
Another example...WHERE THE WIND IS GOING...at 2:15 on the word 'hey'. When I became aware of that little part, I listened to it over and over.
Know what I mean? |

One of my favorite sounds in the world is the first note of that song. It completely sets the mood for the entire album. Mrs. Coastline and I are always in bliss as soon as we hear that guitar strum. Brrrummmmmmmmmm. And don't forget about the waves crashing at the end. Good call, Oldman. |

I know exactly. The little "uh" at the end of Cactus live in Newport. Just like a little rock n roll twist of the wrist. Bliss!

Don't Clip Your Wings caught my ear finally and now I can't stop listening -
It was the short acoustic clip of it in the Pixies DVD that sort of planted the seed - (only a few seconds long) then a few weeks later it came across when I was playing my Frank catalog on random
All the sudden that chorus just leaped out at me and grabbed me by the boo-boo - another infectious hook |

I first heard that one on the iTunes-only EP. I also really like "Preacher's Daughter" and "Show Me Your Tears" on that EP.

I've been listening to Velouria from Newport. It has another example of this (for me). At 2:15 in when he sings Velouria 'nicely' it is just great-no other version I have has this. Usually he screams this part.
And all those "uh uh's" in My Life is in Storage...I just can't explain how much I love these little parts. Like the icing on a cake!

The three off-time squeals during Vamos back in 1988 was when I first got that something was up. Yep I'm listening to Vamos.
Come to think of it you'd expect a great writer to have great punctuation.

Just learned Silkie Bride on guitar. It took me 100 takes before getting it right, but i'm happy with the result. I love the background of the lyrics as well, pure genius..

Find the lyrics. The first letter of each line creates an anagram. Classic Frank Black-ism there.

I think it's an acrostic, rather than an anagram. Definitely interesting stuff, it's the same with Valley of Our Hope and the last bit of Speedy Marie.

Shit, and I know the difference. FB made the same mistake when he named the Pixies song "Ana," so I guess I don't feel *completely* stupid.

I'm listening Changing of the Guards. I like the song so I asked a friend to send me the Dylan version. I never thought I'd think this, but I like the original version better.

I can see that but Frank did such a nice job of making it original. It is nearly impossible top thee original, "you know what I mean". It is kind of like if some kid in some band out of Boston who is a freak like Frank but we don't know that because he's or she's 19 and we're too old now to understand his/her genius and he/she covers superabound. we'd never think it was better than the frank version, as some dylan fanatic is thinking of changing of the guards... and it wouldn't be better than the frank version. I pray that the new Frank is in line with Teenager. Teenager is the best CD I've ever heard by the way. It is from the future I think.

Yeah, the FB&TC's version of Changing of the Guards is definitely different and a bit more rocking. I love that chord progression.

"Demon Girl" - is it just me or does this song sound a whole hell of a lot like Beck circa Mutations?
Better than Beck (although he has his moments), but still, struck me as very similar. |

You mean he spells out D-A-V-I-D instead of P-I-X-I-E-S? Well I guess that's ok. Pointless cover though. Bowie covered Cactus, Nirvana covered The Man Who Sold The World so I guess it's Charles' turn to cover Nirvana. Smells like pop irony.

When Bowie did Cactus on Leno w/ Moby they spelled out B-L-A-C-K, and then Bowie yelled "Charles." I thought that was a nice gesture. |
