OK, so I dropped off little fu at daycare. we were both loving THE NAVAJO KNOW! She said she was loving it cause it makes her head go bob bop!
then I listened to PLANET OF SOUND. this song is absolutely earth shattering….THIS AIN’T THE PLANET OF SOUND, THIS AIN’T NO ROCK N ROLL TOWN, THIS AIN’T NO FUCKIN AROUND, THIS AIN’T NO PLANET OF SOUND!!! HUH!!
OK. so off to the lake for a frank black long weekend. to get mrs fu in the right mindset we’ll start with some new acoustic frank (huge thanks orangemagic, mixedbizz and holiday son, and fbc for the sendmesomefrank thread!). THE WATER, RABBIT HOLE, DEAD MAN’S CURVE!! NEW FRANK!! LIKE OMG!!

GOUGE AWAY (from the Nadine Single, live version)
lovin' it 'cause, I mean, come on, what are you fuckin deaf, EDF's intro alone is worth the price of admission.

you slay me oldman!! the weekend was great! (mrs fu is a big fan of "I'm Going Down")
ok, so i'm listening to SPEEDY MARIE for the 100000000th time. i'm loving it cause frank's a rock god! so, we're at the cottage and my father-in-law is reading the paper and guess what? he starts reading me a fmrm album review in the winnipeg free press! no kidding! so anyways he provides me with the following quote from the review, "...yes, Black is still a god in my eyes..." oh, ya that made me proud! (the actual review was only so so but what the hell)so then, father in law fu's interest is peaked and starts quering me on this frank black gentleman. so we sit down (mother in law fu wisely joins us at the table as well) and i proceed to share my thoughts on the beauty of speedy marie (http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11778). they're like, wow, he is a god! so then we listened to a few more frank black tracks then put elvis back in.

I'm gonna be on the radio this Wednesday and I'm gonna play one of my favorite Frank Black songs ever "Dog Gone." The station already plays Frank, but all they play is "Los Angeles" so I think the kiddies tuning in need another song by the man to listen to.

Very clever choice, then, since the tune/chords to Dog Gone is basically the Los Angeles intro without switching to heavy mode. |

Listening to (and watching the .rm) of the Barfly gig... incredible performance. In particular 'Humboldt Cty.' & '21 Reasons' really make a case for Top 10 FB tracks of all time IMHO....

I certify "Show me your tears" (the song) was really a potential hit. My girlfriend, who doesn't care about FB, sang it all day after hearing it just once. |

I'm listening to 'Jane the queen of love'. This song reminds me of a girl--Joan--I had a seismic crush on for three years. When we finally became friends, Joan would always sit by me at this coffee shop and flirt with me but I never could invoke the nerve to ask her out and we seemed to only exist in the coffee shop together. A year later, she went to study abroad in france and I went on a rather long drinking/drug bender. I'd be either hung over or still high when I woke up every afternoon at around 2pm, and I'd listen to Jane the queen of love.
"I've been so blue, sleeping til noon, watching cartoons but I could not ease the pain"
On a more positive note, I've been digging In The Time of My Ruin a good deal. A ray of hope in my otherwise hopeless existence. |

I've been listening to All My Ghosts quite a bit lately. I wish I knew what it was about. I like the harmonizing in it -- especially on bootlegs where the fans are doing the harmony.
And today I've really been into My Life Is In Storage. I think that might be my favorite of all Frank songs. It's two songs in one, really, and there is a stark contrast between the two parts. The second half is as sad as songs can get. The first half is great, too, with the bizarre 6/4 time and the "Huh! Huh!" on the 5 and 6 beats. (I have to credit some Forum member for pointing that out -- I'd never in a million years have noticed the strange time on my own.)

All My Ghosts -- great song. I've always interpreted to be partially about a past life (kind of obvious if you read into the line about the Porno store.. either he was referring to another life or some harlot he knew in this one). Whenever I hear the duplicated man line, I think of the xfiles, though I doubt that's what he was referring to. I'm guessing Hank the 8th was Henry the 8th who staged a personal war against the Pope and invoked the wrath of the Pontiff and the Vatican. I think 'Eleveth Hour' could be a reference to judgement day and 'Seven Horrors' may be like The Plague, The Holocaust, things that are supposed to happen in the end time. But who knows? I really dig 'Back to rome' as well. Whenever I have a date where something goes wrong I sing along 'and it goes wrong wrong wrong wrong'. I played the hell out of My Life Is In Storage when honeycomb first leaked to the internet before it's release. It became my mantra.

Do you feel bad about it?, Do you feel sad about it, do you feel sick about it, this parting of the ways?
Am I the only idiot savant here who logs on sees the user name Billy Radcliffe and has to consciously make the effort to snap-out-of-it so you don't sit and run through the whole damn song?

I think I'm Starting To Lose it is the greatest song ever written in the history of earth. There are some better songs, but they were written well before our earth was formed. They came from the planet RODON about 44 billion years ago.. |
