my guess, a Wellbuetren, Old Navy, Nasonex, 60 Minutes, Wickedly Perfect, Kay's Jewelers, and a Subway commercial before their gig

and then... monkey probably

Kims not singing harmony in the chorus, shes just doubling Frank's part. Weird. And I guess the strings aren't live, maybe Paul's playing it on keyboard? I hate to say it, but if I didn't know the band I wouldn't be very impressed by that performance.

damn, monkey

that was extremely anti-climatic yet rewarding at the same time, go figure

the bald Paul guy was sure tearing it up on the the synth, and frank and kim were not on the same key...

the pixies should have their own show, in my opinion

oh well, off to rehab

The sound wasn't mixed very well. Paul's keyboard was a little too loud I think. Dave seemed to be enjoying himself. Kim seemed nervous. Frank... well who can tell with that guy? Sharp specs.

you didn't miss much, nothing like you would hear or see on tour... the only big deal is that it was on tv, and it was nothing to shout about... they didn't suck, but i can't sit here and say that they could possibly make a noteworhty an impression on anyone who isn't already a fan...

I can just imagine all the Letterman faithfuls with no clue of who the pixies are saying, "Hmm, that was not shitty but kinda boring,"

I liked it, but of course, as all the the other frank addicts, any showing is worth watching and a good showing...

I'm as if: glad they played, take nothing away from that (and the details that ensue), I wish it was a more spectacular performance, but oh well...

and yeah, I can't spell, and no one gives a fuck what I think anyway.. see you on some other side.

Gosh, I really was expecting Ain't That Pretty At All. Not a bad performance, but... the lead guitar was too low in the mix, and Kim's harmony part in the chorus was sorely missing. Still, you have to admit that it was cool hearing Mr. Letterman describe the Pixies as "extremely influential".

Hopefully, this TV appearance will mean more record sales for Frank Black, solo artist. Looking forward to ACL!

I think I saw a monkey die.
The last time on TV.
If they play it on Austin City,,, prerecorded.
You will never see the Pixies on TV again singing
Monkey.....

I agree, he is just such a goof. When the camera caught him in the shot I just burst out laughing at the foolish expression on his face.

...also, I don't have TV so I had to watch it at a friends house.
I hadn't seen David Letterman in more than 5 years.
He's still a schmuck. The point is, The Pixies are worth seeing/hearing anytime
anywhere, anyhow.
and Kate Blanchet is a divine talent.

Maybe we've been waiting for this for too long and nothing was going to live up to our expectations, but...

There was no 'edge' to the performance. It lacked the urgency and frenetic energy that is the Pixies. Its not the band, their live shows prove nightly that they still have 'it'. But, the song, arrangement and staid performance didn't capture the essence of the band.

There are a lot of people who saw the pixies for the first time last night. I fear they got a bad impression.

Ah crap, it didn't work? It's just a fuzzy screen cap of a bunch of bald guys, you're not missing much. Maybe the link will show you kindness.

Well, that wasn't too bad 'eh?? Played it safe, played the hit. Shaffer is such a wank, his usual overplaying, overmixed self.... I think the glasses should stay, they add to an already dynamic presence....

I vaguely remember Paul "Thunder Bay" Schaffer playing some kind of guitar solo on the keyboards when the Breeders were on Dave. I think it was "Divine Hammer." A fuzzy memory.

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Frank
