You guys are nuts, Paul is awesome. And in case you haven't figured it out, I'm a huge Letterman fan, have been since I was 13. The guy who does research for the show and types up Dave's blue cards has a little blog thing on the CBS website. From yesterday's posting:
quote:
I spent most of today trying to find out if it is "Pixies" or "The Pixies." I was told more than once that they are just "Pixies" without a "The." I desperately wanted to put in a "The" for Dave to use when billboarding them and introducing them. I even checked out past interviews of the band members to see if they referred to themselves as "THE Pixies." I found one or two instances and printed them out. Or at least I thought I did. When I later went to pick them up, no copy could be found. I then went back to my google search and had forgotten where I saw it. I checked with those in the know one more time and was told specifically, "No 'The'." OK, fine. I seem to remember the same problem with the Dixie Chicks. Anyway, a half-hour before the show I get a call telling me that "The" is fine. So all the places I took out the "THE" I now put back in. But in the opening announce, the print you saw on the screen, I kept it simply "Pixies." For the introduction, it was changed from "Please welcome, Pixies" to "Please welcome, the Pixies."

Me too, daynara. I don't watch as regularly as I use to, but I'm still a fan.
Has Paul sang his Cher doing "Silent Night" yet this holiday season? |

Yeah, I noticed "Pixies" without the the and knew right away someone at Letterman's show was paying attention. Such attention to detail is always nice to see. |

He didn't do it last year! I was so upset. Paul usually sings it the night Darlene Love comes on, which is sometime next week. Personally, I'm more excited about the annual "knocking the giant meatball off the Christmas tree with a football" ceremony.

This kind of shit makes me miss cable.
I miss letterman. I missed this performance (hanging out in general to much) Last time I saw Pixies on TV was Dennis Miller.
Has anyone been kind enough to offer it in anything other than the torrent? |

I think it's a good performance though the keys aren't necesary and the chorusvocal is weird (maybe only because we aren't used to two high voices) it's still great!

I agree the "edge" was missing, still a rush to see them on TV. Franks' glasses are spiffy... |

I just watched it thanks to Pixiespunk. Thank you Pixiespunk. I thought it was quite good. Would I rather have seen them blaze through three short songs in 6 minutes? Sure. But you have to understand and appreciate the forum they are in. It was a very good and true version of the song. It's gotta be tough to walk into a 50 degree studio (Isn't really cool in there because Dave doesn't like to sweat?) and just rock out. So I understand why it may have been a less than passionate performance. Kinda of cool to hear the string arrangement with it. |

It is really cold in that studio. I'm surprised any musicians can play in that temperature. It's not freezing cold, but cold enough to make your fingers not work properly.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet or not...
...but after the second time I saw it, there's a shot of Lovering at the end of the song where he stands up, claps his hands together twice and spreads his arms in the way a magician would after an amazing slight of hand trick. Classic.
It was my favorite part of the performance.
