If this thread is not similarly deleted, you welcome yourself to charges of gender discrimination. It's that simple. No debate. If the logic of that isn't obvious, perhaps you'll permit me to make a few more gender disctinctions, since that seems to be the game we're playing. |

Do you know why this thread was started actually? In response to the many threads that went the way of 'look at this fine girls ass' pictures. If you read through the thread there's more conversation than picture and a few of you forum guys are in here as well.
Go lick your fucking wounds else where and stop crying discrimination. There's no bikini shots, there's no underwear models, there *is* a difference, I'm sorry.
Just because your thread got fucked over by nudies and paedos don't be bringing the argument to involve this as well. I get you're bitter, but your hot women are all over the forum anyway, it's not like much of you need an excuse to post them.
So tell me about this game then, please.

the sense of entitlement and territory that people get on a message board is funny. and i'm right in there, it's not like i am pointing any fingers, just such a weird dynamic. the old psych major coming out in me, i guess.... i am waiting for the studies about the psychological impact of message baords on the psyche to start coming out. i think it's changing the way we relate to others and i think it's changing the way we perceive the reality that we don't always get our own way. no one gets to click a button in real life and make it all appear ok to them. i just wonder what kind of seeds we are sowing by fostering the notion that it's ok to always manipulate variables to create what makes us feel comfortable. my sister is 17 and her 'generation' has been raised with the privilege (that they assume is their right) of clicking the big x in the corner every time they don't like something. makes me nervous that we are raising a whole generation of self-centered, intolerant brats. talk about social insecurity. |

MissMaceo, interesting.
Starmekitten, I agree. It's a different thread which doesn't embody the principle that looks are of merit. Bob Mould and Frank Black are on here.
To call it "gender discrimination" is an overgeneralization.
But I still don't think the Pictures of Beautiful Women thread should have been deleted. |

I don't think it should have been deleted but to be honest the first replies on that other thread, taking aim at this one, scream of pointing out an 'injustice' because it's hard to argue the yes it's shallow now give us back our titty shots line.
If this thread is shallow then on principle it should go. I doubt people like erebus have ever read through it to check that though, you read the title and tar it with the same brush. There's some level of objectification I won't deny that but it's no worse than most other threads go, and it's a far cry from beaut women or Paris Hilton thread.
If it goes I'll be sad, of course I will, it's my thread, but this is not my messageboard. I live with that and accept it through participation.
So don't dare anyone cry double standards at me who hasn't objectivley examined every page of this thread to show me they exist.

Comparing this thread to the women's one is quite lame.
If you're going to argue the case, please come up with something stronger than this.
And the sad thing is...if i were to delete this, and replace it with the same thing i did with the other thread, i bet the women on here would flood the thread with positive words about guys, especially who belong to this forum.
So fucking sad.

Hey, how come this thread has so many more hits than the "women" thread? That one only had twentysome-thousand. This one is at 78,500 and rising.

i certainly wouldn't, and that's a pretty lame sweeping generalization of the women (and men) on this board, isn't it?

It's a funny thing. It's the kind of mentality you see in the typical American College movie, where the freshmen are forced into making an acceptance with the rest of the school society. Forums create a kind of society if you will, and naturally there are rankings developed. I used to be part of the TomMorello (RATM guitarist) forums, and there was this kind of heirachy which ruled the site. Harassment would come in private messages, and in the fact that your particular post would go ignored, or met with a (?) or something of the like. The only way to become a part of that society, was to confirm to the particular practices of the place. It kind of was like a place with no real life consequences, where people could allow their ego's to fly out. They create a world where their particular kind is the focal point, maybe because there is no place like that away from the internet. That ties in with your mention of the 14-15-16-17 generation being brought up with worlds where things they don't like can be easily dismissed. Or in the case of Tommorello.net, ignored until you became what they wanted to hear.
I think forums can be excellent places to communicate with people you would otherwise never have to opportunity to talk to. However it can be a place where the ego expands considerably. And perhaps dangerously.
Thats my two cents. (a bit off topic, bad luck) |

This is Francis. Besides being pretty on the outside, Francis has a PHD in marine biology. His interests include shortwave radio, rockclimbing, cooking Thai food and he is particularly partial to French symbolist poetry. Francis is hurt and offended that none of you can see past the beefcake exterior to these inner qualities. Ladies, you´re making Francis cry. Repent or suffer deletage.

Francis is just a photograph, we have no real knowledge of francis and his actions. We know Jack White and Frank Black are talented and make sexy music and that makes them sexy. If either of these gentlemen walked past us on the street, just another anonymous stranger in the sea of thousands I doubt they would turn our heads. They don't model underwear, or appear in dodgy online near miss soft core, the aesthetic is overwhelmed by the talent.
I find these discussions infuriating I truly do. I am sick of being accused of double standards, I am sick of people assuming their thought processes apply to me. You know, in this thread and in real life my choices as to my girl crushes are laughed at. My friends out here think it's very funny and if I hear the line "could do so much better.. look at him" one more damned time I will scream. I don't care how pretty the fucking box is, if there's nothing inside it I have no interest. If Clive Owen was a dribbling nonette he wouldn't warrant a second thought. I hold Steve Buscemi on my list of girl crushes and you can't tell me thats because he's such a fucking looker.
Day, I'm not trying to fool anyone doll, if the other thread is shallow and this thread is shallow and threads are deleted because they are so, it follows this one will and should go. But, I think there is a difference and maybe it seems I am the only one who thinks this.
I think the fact that the thread had descended full on nudity and paedo demands has been overlooked. Also, I think (again not a popular opinion maybe) but there's no point stamping your feet about the loss of the thread, it's run by the moderators and is down to them what happens. If people want their thread back, they have to make their own forum or go somewhere it's accepted. It may not be fair, but life's a shithouse like that. Before you jump on me for that I'm not advocating the threads deletion.
Also, hello everyone reading this, before the beaut women thread went, it was often commented that the hits on this thread were less than half of that of beautiful women. Yet, as soon as beaut women is gone you all take an interest and point the finger. The hits rate is frankly disturbing, our little overlooked thread for girls turned into your battle ground and sticking point. Did you lurkers find what you were looking for here?

that is probably the hardest thing for people to get their heads around. Even now I still occasionally have problems adjusting for it.
I've never posted in this thread I think. I have looked, to be met with pics of Brad, Jack and Frank. It's interesting to see what kind of men women find attractive and the reasons for it. I don't have a problem with it and don't really see why anyone would. I also don't really care that the 'pics of beautiful women' thread was deleted. On my list of things to worry about, I'm struggling to think of things that would be lower.
I do feel that the posts that led to its deletion were highly inappropriate and should have been deleted. Equally, we should all conform to the forum rules. Dave's actions in deleting the thread seem to be misguided, but the follow-up thread he posted was fairly patronising and probably led to more outrage than there would have been. But as Starmekitten said, they're the moderators, they can do what they want, it's hardly going to stop me reading and posting on this forum.
Should probably have posted this in the other thread.

yeah, i agree, erebus. they aren't the same thing. but in my opinion, i think it's because of the type of men the fb ladies find attractive. with the exception of dave and his omnipresent nipple piercings, most of the men i admire tend to be standing upright and wearing clothes in pictures, you know what I mean? I'm not expecting to see pics of Jakob Dylan in his underwear or showing us how large his package is - those pics probably aren't even around. while it may be unfortunate, it's not as easy to find pictures of beautiful women with all their clothes on, looking respectable. when i went to find pictures of the lady from everybody loves raymond, patricia heaton, even SHE was all busty and popping out in every picture. and shes hardly a sex kitten. those women are encouraged to look sexy, pay for bigger boobs, etc. just how our society is. does it mean that we are encouraging our society's view that women are to be objectified whereas men are not to the same degree? perhaps. not sure I want that responsibility, though, since I'm just here to enjoy, as are most of you, I'm sure. anyway................

You know what, when you think about it, there're very few successful female musicians or actresses or whatever, that aren't considered attractive in some way. That's a shame I guess - it points out the natural shallowness of men, which really doesn't appear to be evident to the same extent in women.
I wouldn't like this thread to be deleted. I'm in here, I quite enjoy being objectified.

Can't be bothered? What, what is your problem, you'd rather I lie? There's a difference Floop and you know it. I have said over and over I don't think your thread should have been deleted, not on grounds of shallowness because well, not only is it judgemental but by that definition there's a good number of threads on this forum that would have to go as well. The basic fact is though, the environment where soft core and a PAEDO (everyone got that, it seems to be overlooked some) reside is overstepping the mark. It would have made more sense to ban, delete posts and monitor the situation but that takes time and effort and the mods just aren't about to do that.
The whole thing has been handled badly.

We've only heard from one moderator so far, and I think that's fairly telling.
My opinions in list form: 1) The beautfiul men and women threads are different. The women thread had many photos of women that we know nothing about other than them being hot, while the men thread is has musicians and celeberities that perhpas one could like for more than just being hot. The women thread might be viewed as more shallow, but don't think there's much of a difference. That might be a male/female difference. I do dispute the claim that there much nudity on the women thread.
2) Something had to be done about cleaning up the women thread. A new person posted nudity - that was easily fixed by Andy's posting. And the trolled needed be ignored. Paedophilia is a serious topic, but I never saw anything beyond the troll calling for photos. Is that really a serious crime or just a troll trying to stir to pot (which has really now happened with the deleting of threads).
3) The only justification given so far for deleting the women thread is Dave's moral objection to people posting photos of women. And, his follow up program to make us all better people was offensive. |
