What's Up Matador is one of the best label compilations I have. Sadly I don't remember the Barbara Manning track.

By the way, it's her 28th birthday today, as well as Ayn Rand's 101st.
I thought I remembered one of those "what happened in the year you were born" sites saying Shakira was born in 1977 (like I was). If Erebus is right, it must have been off by a year.

I bought the Trojan Originals boxset, the new Mogwai single and the last Sigur Ros single. I also acquired through nefarious means some curious items including: Absolut Kravitz; Justice; Fire Engines; Archie Bronson Outfit; Television Personalities. I know nothing about any of these.

Excellent choice, excellent taste.
Have you heard stuff by their earlier band Tight Bros From Way Back When? Been revisiting that lately and loving it all over again. Oh and the thought of Big Business now being part of The Melvins - making it my mission to see them this year come hell or high water.
Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself. |

No but apparently BB's got some stuff recorded (before the above record) that is going to be released soon. I know the drummer was in Dead Low Tide who I saw open for the Melvins once and they were pretty ferocious too. I'll have to look out for Tight Bros. And yes, this whole Melvins conglomerate should be interesting to say the least! |

I can't say I like it as much as "Dear Catastrophe Waitress," but their albums usually take a little time to grow on me. Overall, I think it has more of a rock sound than the other B&S albums.

Les Wampas - Chirac En Prison. Actually the song sucks, but hey, it's called Chirac En Prison. That rules.

Troy Von Balthazar (self titled)
Excellent CD, recorded at the new monkey studio, sounds like a mix of Elliot Smith and Sparklehorse, with wonderful duets with a cute little french girl (sounds like a good Vanessa Paradis). TVB is chokebore's leader.

I just got it the other day. I really like it except for the overtly T-Rex inspired "The Blues Are Still The Blues". "White Collar Boy" really sounds like The Shins/the last Animal Collective album. I've always found B&S albums to be growers like Vovat. I havn't heard "Dear Catastrophe Waitress," the last album I have is Story Telling, but what I've heard so far I really like, "Act Of The Apostle" sounds really lovely.

Cowboys International - "Revisited" : revisited twenty-five years since last audition, when I was the "Labor Czar" at the Twenty-First Street Student Co-Op in Austin, Texas, on 21st Street, naturally. Yes, socialism's finest hour. Amazing to rejoin music not since heard for so long. The Cowboys were regular in a rotation of Richard Hell, Talking Heads, Ramones, Clash, B-52s, Iggy, Chilton, Blondie, Devo, Lene Lovich, Rachel Sweet, and Wire, with a dash of Stevie Ray.
Tobin Sprout - "Live at the Horseshoe Tavern April 19, 2004" : a real ear opener. Recommended especially for those on the GBV fence.
the Gossips - "thats not what I heard" ; clever, infectious riot girrrl
Mary Lou Lord - "got no shadow" : cloudy day wisdom via subway
Brazilian Girls - eponymous : initially heard as alien but upon subsequent listening more than welcome
np Scout Niblett - "Sweet Heart Fever" : in honor of Valentine's Day, but also because I got it just yesterday. Recommended. |

More interesting than I expected. Maybe because this compilation was put together by LR himself.

Ugh sorry. The original Transformer version intact on the comp. The version with Antony singing Perfect day is on The Raven. This album also features a track with Steve Buscemi on vocals and a silly Reed/Bowie song titled Hop Frog
