One in Newcastle and the other in London. I'm hoping these are maybe warm up gigs for another tour.

I went to see The Subways last night. They only played 6 songs and then a 1 song encore. Seven fookin songs for £8. That's over a pound a song. I feel bloody cheated. Mel, explain this to me, do they often do this?
EDIT: Let it be known that their songs are about two and a half minutes long on average. |

I think I'm going, for free most likely. Unless I don't.
Is anyone else going to the London show on the 17th March?

I saw REM in Cape Town over the week-end. Even if the show sucked and they only played the hits most of you probably dislike them for I was looking forward to a three day week-end in Cape Town.
REM put up a mighty show in the end. They were much louder and tougher than I'd expected them to be and played enough from their brilliant 80's records. So Central Rain, Exhuming McCarthy, Orange Crush, The one I love were all stunning. Even some of their later stuff such as the feedback drenched version of Walk Unafraid sounded much better than on the records. If you like REM but didn't want to see them this time around because of their insipid last record you might want to reconsider. I bought tickets to see them in Jo'burg again.
Oh and Surfer, just to make you a bit homesick. I had breakfast at The Empire on Muizenberg beach and then had a long walk down the beach in early morning sunshine. Love the place.

apparantly when they played sheffield (which I didn't buy tickets for because of the new album and the ticket price) the drummer cancelled on them and they decided to do an acoustic set rather than cancel the whole gig, they played for an hour and then told everyone they'd come back and if they kept there tickets they'd treat them to a proper show, i might love michael stipe again..

It was Mike Mills who got sick.
Stipe introduced the local supporting act from the stage. It took the crowd a while to recognise the skinny guy dressed in a vest. You would have loved Stipe taking off his shirt at the end of their set.

DON'T do that to me, I just dropped my cigarette in my lap
wow, thats one hell of a write-up, I got mocked mercilessly for going to see REM by some of my uber-indie friends but I feel smug and safe in the knowledge that they really missed out, fucking excellent band.
glad you went then?

My only complaint was the price of the tickets (I remember you complaining about the prices in the UK as well) The show was very good though which made it worthwhile. If the show sucked the good time I had in Cape Town would have made up for my troubles flying down there. It was going to be a good week-end no matter what happened.

Grrrrrr! Jealous jealous (and I never ever thought I'd be saying that about a REM gig)! My little sister went to see them, will have to call and find out what she thought.

Mono and Parlour blew our minds last weekend, Mono live is a religious experience. Really nice people too. I recommend anyone able to see them on their current tour check them out. They'll be at the SXSW festival as well. Mono with Parlour complete Mono tour
and Slint on 2.22 was perfect. There are still tickets available for some shows (including the Hollywood date and 3/24 in Chicago).

I have since read that apparantly it was only 4 songs, so I doubt it was an hour. Better than nothing, but still with their back catalogue, you'd think they could knock out a few more. |

gosh, remind me to pay no heed to second hand stories in future, apparantly "it just wasn't working" and he thought rather than carry on and give a sucky show it was best to re-schedule. I think still, it's pretty decent of him to do any at all, some bands won't.
I just saw your arcade fire thing! bless you, if it turns out i am in fact a full on loner i'll let you know! :)

I havent seen them play for about a year...but from what ive heard, they keep cutting their set list down further and further...to be honest, with the exception of oh yeah, the songs are all a bit crap. he may be a good friend and everything, but all of the songs sound the same, and charlotte shouldnt sing. She sounds like a chipmunk, as the NME so rightly pointed out. Punk ROck Porridge, i quite liked too.
But all credit to them trying to still do teh same thing as many bands have already done...im sure, well i know there are alot of people out there who really like them. So thats cool. But ive really gone off them. Listened to their new album...was dissapointed. to say the least. I think every one else will be if they buy on the strength of subways. They are gettng alot of radio play from Jo whiley tho....but so are the others. who are the worst band ever to surface

Yeah I was not too impressed, they had a couple of decent tunes, Oh Yeah and 1 am (and perhaps one other), but nothing amazing. And with a setlist as short as that, they are not gonna get too far. The US will laugh them back home.
And yeah, she needs to shut the hell up. |

I liked the one you put on your CD Mike, but I don't think I'd pay to go see them, specially if you were going to pay a pound plus per song.
I got tickets for the Go! Team in London today Mike - they'd better be good or I'll kick your lily butt.
