Mastodon gig last night (and I've got another on Wednesday night!!!!) - probably one of the more memorable gigs I've been to for too many reasons. Tiny venue, smallest I've ever seen them play (and I'm a big fan of the small venue) tight show, no lulls in the set and as always just an astounding display by very skilled musicians, followed by a night of much amusement, fun and debauchery.

I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A
California Dreamin' on such a winter's day

I saw The Go! Team again on Friday night. Dance-tastic.

Shake your ass, show me what you got!

ted leo is coming this way, i only know the song from brian's mix. i was thinking of going to seattle for the interpol show on the 11th but i had important stuff to do on the 12th so i couldn't, i'm not sure if Blonde Redhead were with them in seattle, didn't say that in the paper i read. i hope polyphonic spree comes this way!

i'm probably going to see Paul Westerberg on thursday, i booked the night off so i don't have any reason to not go(except i'll have to buy my buddy's ticket) but i think i'll be able to get 2 for 1 tix. i am going to buy his latest album this week. i have never seen him solo, does anyone know if he plays replacements songs?

gig is a show in a smaller venue, concert i think is probably 3000+. i usually say show for gig or concert. i dunno if i would ever consider a u2 show a gig.

I saw Nine Black Alps again last night at a bar in town. Once again they were excellent. They really can be as big as they want. I think they have their debut video on MTV2 now.

I saw a Senegalese band last night, parts of me moved I didn´t even know I had. Gypsy jazz tomorrow night in Harlem Jazz Club, which I´m looking forward to immensely.

He did at the NONCOMM volunteer show with Sonic Youth in Louisville last year, a bunch of them. I wasn't really into his solo show, but he seemed kind of out of sorts, so maybe it was just an off day.

Who's the Gypsy Jazz band Newo? Purely European or do they tour overseas?

After the Pixies, they were the best I have ever seen. I can't recommend them more highly than that.

Can I please take this opportunity to say: Mastodon AGAIN on wednesday night, followed by the Go Team on Friday, The Haunted next Friday, Eighteen Visions, The Ga Ga's, Mooney Suzuki, Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan AND I'm definitely doing a European festival, just need to decide which one. All of these to look forward to - I am sooooo lucky!

It's going to be either a German or Dutch rock festival (and you already know why) - am tempted to do Burning Man this year since they're having a Spanish version.

Gypsyjazz show apl, turned out I misheard and it was Brasilian jazzfusion band, Danilo Pinhero, with lots of bossanova to fuse it with plus some quite bright and funky melodies my Portuguese bassist tells me are from the centre of the country. If they went to the States I´d recommend seeing em.

I went to see two portuguese bands yesterday, X-Wife and Wraygunn, they are very good especially Wraygunn, they have very good music but they are also very funny on stage. I recomend them, they've already been playing in NYC and it was a success!

Newo, you have a portuguese bassist? Where's he from?

Just got Regina Spektor tickets for the end of march at the Bowery. There was a cool segment about her on msnbc's entertainment show today and a new video up on her site. Neat.

Alabama Thunderpussy are playing Leeds! Yay.

I suspect I am the only person without facial hair that is excited by this though.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Favourite band name.

Now I'm trying to figure out whether I can get away with wearing Alabama Thunderpussy t's to work or not.

Been warned to totally dress down for the gig. Baggy baggy clothes, fake beard, fake beer gut and to consider not washing for a couple of days.

i didn't count but there were A LOT. over 20 for sure. i'd say about 25 maybe? there are also some serious babes in the chorus section. i wasn't expecting that.

super fun show. i appreciate it when bands have a real theatrical spectacle going on.. like the Flaming Lips ..

had a great time (and even managed to get a girl to go with me. a cute girl at that)

Damn Josh Homme, coughing up blood. A likely story. The fool's gone and cancelled QOTSA's European dates, so I get nothing. They'd better make it up to me...
