Just watched The Kills, very good. They make a great sound, considering it's just hid guitar, her voice and a drum machine for the most part (occasionally she plays bass). She is just about my perfect woman I think. Beautiful and a little bit bonkers. Just how I like 'em.

Hi Broken Face - they had one of these events at the Barbican in London last year. We got 'They Might Be Giants' plus Dave Eggers, Zadie Smith, Nick Hornby and some other fella.
It was the first time i'd been to anything like that and I enjoyed it alot - Egger's kicked the other writers' asses.

Just been reminded of a strange gig I went to last year - punk band called The Daughters. Their set lasted 20 minutes (of mostly screaming) if that and culminated in the vocalist deep throating the mike and masturbating. It was bizarre to say the least.
Good to hear you enjoyed The Kills Homer, I must have been in a really shitty mood when I saw them.

I saw very few concerts last year (3 actually) so I plan to go out more this year. I already have tickets to see Pierre Henry at his house in March (I already went in 2002, great stuff, you just sit in his living room or any room you want and he's in the basement playing his crazy contemporary stuff, and then the day after you casually say 'well yesterday as I was at Pierre Henry's house I told him...' and it makes you look super cool, unless nobody knows who he is, come on, the guy's a legend!). I may also go to see Arcade Fire, The Hives + Blues Explosion (but the venue sucks), Joanna Newsom, and I know David Thomas & 2 Pale Boys are coming to Paris but I have never heard their stuff. Oh, and U2 play at the Stade de France and they sold all the tickets in like 1 hour. That's cool cause I didn't want to go anyway.

Mmm, good point - anyone going to see Arcade Fire here in London in March? I've managed to scrape together one ticket but I have no-one to go with as yet.

Would love to go Cheeseman, but I can't. I think I'll have to wait...But in May I'll go to see Lou Reed, I like Lou Reed!

Don't let the "not having someone to go with" thing stop you. Some of the best gigs I've been to have been on my own. You get to lose yourself totally in the moment, no having to worry if the short person you're with can see or not, no juggling drinks for other people on the way back from the bar. Just GO dammit, it'd be criminal to miss a good gig.

I have never been to a gig on my own, but have eneded up on my own at the front quite a few times. I have also been to see bands on my own at a festival a couple of times. It's not bad.

Of course I'm going, I just wondered if there's anyone else here wants to meet up. I get a free ticket, I'd be a fool to turn it down.

I'm going to be seeing TMBG at an instore later this month. I knew about the McSweeney's show, but I wasn't interested in it.
By the way, is referring to a concert as a "gig," even when you're not the one playing, a British thing? I've also thought it was just the bands themselves that had gigs.

Concert makes me think of a piano recital or some kind of sit down affair that is awfully civillised.
Gig makes me think loud music, sex, drugs and rock & roll.

There's always "rock show," isn't there?
It just seems wrong to me to use "gig" to mean "show I'm attending."

Show to me means dancers wearing feather headresses - possibly topless.
Maybe I have a warped sense of reality?
