Last year's best night was seeing Wilco and a good opening band that the name I forget at this second, then hopping in the car and driving down to the My Morning Jacket show, missing the first 10 minutes of it, but still walking right up to the front of the stage in front of the lead guitarist.
This year have only seen Camper. Think I'll try out the Futureheads show, and hopefully a Wrens concert near here.

I managed to get tickets for Queens Of The Stone Age at Camden Palace, should be pretty good.

I really don't get this Bright Eyes attraction. I have downloaded a lot of his songs recently from Limewire 'cos I have heard quite a lot about him, and wondered why Bumble always used to say he hated him. I just can't get into it. It's just tunelss and boring. The lyrics seem pretty good, but this isn't poetry, it's music, so you need the music to be good first and foremost. But really I see nothing to distinguish him from any failed singer/songwriter. Nothing remotely original or interesting about him IMO.

Have you only listened to his new stuff??
I love it. I think hes a very creative and ingenius song writer.
His lyrics are beautiful andhard hitting, I love his voice.
It takes a few listenings to 'get it' i think.
Funny bumble should hate conor oberst - i thought he looked very very similar!

I think if you put them both in the same room together, many of those similarities would dissapear. They do look a little alike there though. Only a little mind.

you cant really see it in that picture, but if simon sorted his hair out, and had lighter skin tone, they do look very alike.
They have the same face shape and eyes, and they are both incredibly skinny. lol. i think that why bumbles not been around much - since he got a number 1 and number 2 in USA, hes beena bit busy!

Aye cap'n. Just checked. March 19, and they're playing a small, small venue. Guess I'll need to pick up the cd and learn the tunes this next month and a half. Feb 19 another great show: Midlake, Radiant* and Pleasant Grove. Three good bands from this neck of the woods.

Hey Superabounder you don't want to book up March 19th - Scarla O' are playing the Bull & Gate, Kentish Town that day.
Admittedly it might be a bit of a journey but well worth it I assure you

Hey Scarla, I MAY be going to London that weekend for a belated birthday celebration. Then again it may be on my actual birthday weekend, or not at all.
I assumed Superbounder was from the US. I don't think The Futureheads are playing the UK soon after the NME tour. Not that I know of anyway.

I afraid I don't know yet who else is playing that night - this was originally planned as a low-
key gig for our new drummer. Please come along if you're around - you'll even get to hear the
full unedited version of 'In The Fallout Shelter' ;)

As far as I recall, you spent most of the evening trying to take photos of Benji. But yes, it was a really good show - enjoy yourself AB.

Death From Above 1979 last night. Whoohoo and man am I glad I wear earplugs when I go to gigs! That was some bass. They're made up of a bass player and a drummer who sings and make more noise than you can possibly begin to imagine. @Tiny venue - I started to get nervous (and thankfull that I had a fresh set of plugs) when the amps and speakers just kept being brought onto the stage. The drum kit was hooked up to a ridiculous amount of mikes. Support band The Fever were really good but nothing could prepare you for the whirling dervishes of noise that came on next. Raw, crazy, intense - just what I want from a gig. Left the venue feeling utterly invigorated - any worries or stresses from the week all gone.
And now I've got 2 Mastodon gigs to look forward too.
I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A California Dreamin' on such a winter's day

I just got back from seeing Greenday (well, just is an exaggeration, i mean it was last night, in my town...)
I have never seen them before. used to love them when i was younger, still do think they are pretty good. My god, what a stage show.
Billy Joe is a fantastic stage performer. He makes sure he gets the whole crowd involved. he got a water pistol out at dragged a kid on stage and made him squirt the audience, then the kid turned and started spraying BJ, and a security guard grabbed the kid and dragged to the other side of the stage (water+stage = not good).
Towards the end they got 3 kids up, to play guitar bass and drums while BJ sang, that was pretty cool. The guitarist got the guitar, and he made the drummer do a stage dive off stage.
They played a generation x cover, and an operation ivy cover. that was cool. They ended on We Are The Champions.
At the end LOADS of confetti came down, and all the way through they had all these pyrotechnics, they had a huge one at the end....but the thing was that the air conditioning appeared to be pushing the confetti towards the stage, and just as i turned to my b/f to say i hope they dont do any more fire things cos it could be quite dangerous, they did! next thing i know, i can hear a fire bell, and smell smoke. fortunately it had pretty much finished, so we left pretty sharpish, only to see a fire engine pull up!
I realised im way too old before my time, i stood at the back, like right at the back at greenday. You get a better view there, plus there were so many kids around, i knew what it would be like at the front. Then on the way home i said i should really start wearing ear plugs, as its really beginning to effect my ears all these gigs...deafness in the family, bit paranoid about that.
Oh, i also went to a Bloc Party signing last week. really sweet shy guys. Some photographer from the NME kept taking photos of us. Hopefully mine wont be in there, since i looked awful...!
Upcoming - Wilco/Bright eyes, not sure which yet, REM perhaps, Idlewild, Jim bob (from carter USM) for 3 nights in may - thats gonna be ace, The camden Crawl, and probably a few more that i cant think of right now.
