I am going to see The Strokes tonight. Can't say I am that excited, even though the new album is growing on me.
I am looking forward to the support though. The Shout Out Louds and my friend's band Polytechnic. They have had a good couple of months, first supporting The Breeders, and now The Strokes. Pretty big gigs for such a new band that only just got signed (and weren't when they supported The Breeders).

The Strokes were pretty impressive. They are very tight now and Julian's voice is more powerful and remained in tune for the most part.
Yeah not bad at all.

I heard Bad Plus´ first album a few months back Denis, took it out of the library. I wouldn´t buy it but I´d go see them if they were playing near me.

I happened upon The Holloways in a club yesterday evening. A pretty tiresome Libertines tribute by the sound of it, complete with alpine hats. They looked they were having fun, which made me feel like I should be too, but thats about all that was going for them. Don't believe any next big thing hype.

Yeah, you're right Kelladwella, I really needed a few days to sink in...
How was it? Just great and fantastic! One of the best gigs of all my life. They played almost two hours. Two encore. They played a lot of songs from the last album, like you said, and four songs from Violator, one from Exciter, one from Ultra two from Songs Of Faith And Devotion, two from Music For The Masses, one from Construction Time Again, one from Some Great Reward, one from Black Celebration and one from Speak & Spell (guess which one...).
It was not a "best-of gig", because they played a lot of songs from Playing The Angel, and also some other songs that are not considered as "hits", so that was great. Some songs were also played in a different way than in the albums. The stage setting, the lightings and the projections were great too.
Dave is a fabulous singer and showman. So much energy and charism! When you know what he has been through, you can see that he's always happy to be here, on stage with his band and all his fans. I hate musicians who try to be cool in being snob with their public, and that's definitely not the case for them, although they are real superstars. And I like it when groups seem happy to play on stage, and that was the case too.
I heard a lot of critics saying when the last album came out: "they're just making it for the money, there's no real enthusiasm", well, I say: the last album is great, and go see them live, before saying things like that! Now I can understand what's so special about a DM gig.
What else could I say? My girlfriend who was not a DM addict, is now a REAL fan. Maybe we'll go to see them again this summer in Nîmes' amphitheater. I hope so.

I've never seen the series, but I've heard good things about it. Wasn't it originally a radio show? I like Julian Barratt in Nathan Barley.

It's one of the most random comedy series I have ever seen, which I guess is why I like it.
And yeah I liked Barratt in Nathan Barley too. The Mighty Boosh got the credit that Nathan Barley also deserved in my opinion. And Garth Marenghi's Dark Place. All three are closely linked.

bzzzzzzzz, clap your hands were great. i also quite liked the support, dr. dog i think. i bought their EP off these two hot groupie/promotional indie girls who were walking around inbetween the two acts. i don't have a record player here but it was worth the £3 to talk to them... yeah...

I saw a band called Dr. Dog open for Camper Van Beethoven in Philadelphia. I wonder if they were the same. I wasn't impressed by them, by the way.

I'm pissed off I missed Bob Mould, I knew he was playing I just never got round to finding out when. Hopefully Will Oldham and Lightning Bolt will make up for that. Not a fan of Metallica at all, I'd go see Ministry though if they ever played here.

I'm probably going to go and watch Foo Fighters in Hyde Park - they're supported by Motorhead and QOTSA, plus more to be announced, which should make a good day. I saw the Chilli Peppers there a couple of years back although I'm not a massive fan, and because it was such a massive event, it's a lot of fun.
I'd definitely see Metallica though, that would be awesome.

Went to see Bob Mould last night, it was okay. Nothing too special to report except he didn't have a band. Just him and an acoustic and then he switched to electric about half way through. Interesting to hear some of the Husker songs in such raw form. I'm not too familiar with his solo stuff (I don't think he played any Sugar) so I really couldn't tell what was what. He sounded really good I guess but I think I'd have preferred to hear him backed by a band. Curt Kirkwood (who opened) also played solo acoustic but we missed a lot of his set because I, being elected driver, proceeded to get us lost on the way there. I've been to the Troubadour loads of times but I always seem to have problems locating it. This time it was the old "stay to the right on San Vicente or you'll wind up in a Bermuda Triangle where you think your going in a straight line but you keep passing the same goddamn building". Been a victim of that one more than once. Reminded me of the days of smoking drugs and driving around in San Francisco, talk about a clusterfuck. Anyway, so it was more like an evening of Unpluggedness, we made it up to the VIP lounge (I roll like that) and watched most of the gig through the large plate glass window. The unpluggy vibe took me back to my own room-clearing open mic nights around my own town. Never a dry eye in the house after my version of "Back dat ass up".

I braved the snow to get to the Laura Cantrell show last night. Actually, since I took the train, it didn't involve THAT much bravery. But anyway, the show was great, and Laura explained the origins of a lot of the songs. The opener sucked, though.

Yes, I would love to.
But it's not only a matter of me wanting to go or not, since the two Berlin concerts in July are already sold out. I have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that a friend of mine (with the right connections...) can get me in. It worked the last time. I will not find out untill the week befor the concerts, though.
Wait.
I just read, that there is an additional third concert in June. Oh no! There's a quick decision to be made. Spend lots of €€ for a ticket and get in for sure, or wait it out and gamble for a free ticket. I hate making decisions...
