They've just released 13 Hedgehogs - which is a singles comp (1994 to 1999) which I picked up on Friday - probably as good a place to start as any - all the reviews I've read it's really hard to work out which of their albums to go with (even though all the music snobs and purists will have a fit over buying a "best of" so to speak)

I am seeing Sons & Daughters tomorrow night and The Prodigy on Wednesday night. That should be bananas.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

I went to a very strange gig last Tuesday. I was really really excited to be going to see John Doe. I absolutely love X and The Knitters so I was really looking forward to it. I went into the venue at 8 when it was supposed to be starting, but there was only nine people there. I just thought that more people would turn up after the support played. The support was awful and wasted too much time with his inane and sleep inducing singer/song writer crap. Peter Case was a real treat though and I really enjoyed his set. By the time John Doe was up about five more people showed up and most of them seemed to be there to see the support guy. I was really disapointed that know one else had turned up to see this music legend.
On the upside he asked for requests and my freind and I decieded to ask for Poor Little Girl(one of my favs among another fifty), plus he played The Real One(Cheers Kathryn for that) and one of my favorite tracks from his new album, Hwy.5, and some Knitters songs as well. Got to talk to him afterwards, he was very freindly and got him to sign all my stuff. He blamed the promotion for the lack of bodies which is true since I didn't see any posters and only found out he was playing here through Pitchfork, plus Public Enemy were playing around the corner(?). I was so excited to be talking to him I forgot to ask him about X coming to Europe and about playing with Kirstin Hersh, oh well. All in all, very strange gig.

Not at all.

It was all Throwing Muses songs as part of the 4AD anniversary. So there was Two Step, Cottonmouth, Counting Backwards, Serene, White Bikini Sand... Really, really good.

Just solo for the main part of the show, then Kim and Martin MacCarrick came on to do strings for the encore.

the best part of the gig was that between the opening band, the most serene republic, and broken social scene, they played 5 frank tunes from black letter days! no shit! did that ever make my night! plus i was wearing my fb&c's devil shirt.

I saw this show too and have to say it was very disappointing. That's the third show I've seen at le Rendezvous and the first with any sound issues. BSS didn't sound like they even wanted to be there... not the best way to connect with the crowd. It was basically the exact opposite of everything I'd heard about their live act. And what was with the wait outside the doors?
I should have sold my tickets outside the door instead of freezing my ass off |

Been listening to my copy loads since Friday (it's actually all their split ep singles) 56 explosions of insanity on one cd. Tomorrow I have Red Stars Parade, Baroness, Capricorns - can't wait. |

The opening band Caribou is pretty interesting. Two drummers, a lot of electronica, and LOUD AS HELL when I saw them last week. Make sure you take some earplugs along if you go in time to catch them.
I tend to think of human beings as huge rubbery test tubes, too, with chemical reactions seething inside |

yeah, i downloaded a few tracks, i think i have seen them before but i didn't recognise any songs. they are canadian so it's likely i saw them opening for someone. interesting is the word i would use to describe the 4 songs i listened to last night, enough to make me go early enough to check them out live.

I haven't heard Caribou, but I like what I've heard of Manitoba, so I might check them out. A friend of mine saw them live recently and raved about them.

I saw Wolf Parade on Saturday. I'll never forget it. Awesome. Shame they were only on for 30 minutes (they were the first of three bands on).

Eighties Matchbox were very good last night. Even louder and more bonkers than usual.
The New Pornographers the night before were absolutely amazing. Joint best gig of the year. Perhaps ever.
