Which tour was that, offerw?
They are commanding absurd scalping prices after selling out within a couple of hours, which also happened after a second night was added. I'm only bothering for the opening act, Arcade Fire.

You'd pay that much just to see an opening set?

U2´d have to pay me 100 to go see them. They´re good live if you like watching teevee.

I think I'd have liked to have seen them on the Pop Mart tour. I seen some pictures of it and it looked so rediculous and over the top that it was kind of fascinating. |

I'd pay a hundred Canadian to see Arcade Fire play their hometown of Montreal. And I just might next week.

I saw the first gig of the Pop Mart tour and it was fun, actually. But perhaps "fun" is not what you meant by that colorful expression, Owen. Did you hate the show, then?

I think they´d be great with a different singer.

I am going to see Wolf Parade support Black Mountain and Dead Meadow at Manchester Roadhouse on 26th November. My god this year has been a good one for gigs. I will have seen most of my favourite bands (that are still touring) by the end of it.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

Pop Mart. Stadium gig with terrible sound. Yes, the visual effects were completely over the top.

shout out louds were awesome! the only gigs i would say were much better this year were futureheads in february (ironically, this is when i saw the shout outs for the first time) and the kaiser chiefs in may. the opening act, the sun, were quite good, check out the thread i started.
peace out

Just worked out I'm seeing 15 bands this weekend excluding whoever supports Melt Banana & Khanate - all heavy as hell. I may have to pull a sicky on Monday.

I honestly don't know where to start with them - still a newish thing for me. I'll let you know when I've formed a proper opinion and gone beyond the absorbtion stage.

Just got back from the Jello/Melvins gig last night and boy am I pissed! I guess I expected way too much. Here's the quick rundown
First band: Kill Radio, never heard of'em and I got there right after they finished anyway.
Altamont: Dale's (from the Melvins) band except he's on guitar and lead vocals. Really loud 70's rock with lots of hair flying behind the drums. Somewhere between Black Sabbath and ZZ Top. Our collective response to them was "Eh...."
Melvins: Great as usual but their set was very short due to the bloated relic that was to take the stage.
Jello and the Melvins: Crowd started getting violent and many fights breaking out during the first song. Jello goes off on some diatribe about a book pertaining to some soldiers experience in Iraq. Tells us in the crowd to not join the Armed Forces and generally talks about the U.S. keeping freedom from the rest of the world. Yawn. My girlfriend is clearly ready to leave at this point as well as myself. As we're heading out through the main lobby we see two jerks exchanging blows with security. Apparently they had gotten kicked out and wanted back in. Lots of meat heads at this one, one of the worst in my book.
Where's a nice Frank gig when you need one.
Hmm, pretty harsh when I reread this. Let me add that I have respect for Jello and his place in punk rock history but what I don't have a lot of respect for is people whining about complicated issues and offering up no solution of their own. It was very apparent that the man just likes to hear himself talk. Even Buzzo was making wanky guitar sounds that were obviously meant to serve as mocking accompaniment to the J-man's flapdoodle. Okay, I'm done. |

Just saw Caribou which was really interesting. Super Furry Animals, well, I didn't know their music and I didn't really find them too interesting. Plus, I can't stay out too late tonight so I just wathed a few songs and left. Still, they were amusing, coming to the stage as they played the theme to Rocky and to the A-Team over the loudspeakers. Then, they were wearing these funny looking radioactive jump suits. Anyway, maybe if I knew their music I would have enjoyed it more.

The White Stripes were very good, but I couldn't really get into it. I think they need to either completely re-invent themselves or call it day. I think they have taken it as far as it can go now.
Jack was as an impressive musician as ever though.

Okay - Khanate & Melt Banana. Khanate were incredibly boring even after smoking a joint. The less said about them really the better. However the mighty Melt Banana - awesome and one of the most amusing shows I've ever been to. You cannot watch them without laughing out loud to the joyous craziness of it all. Sadly not anywhere near the front so I didn't get to see much but I can say the one guitarist played with a surgeons mask throughout the entire performance and the lead singers hoody stayed perfectly in place throughout the explosion on stage.

I was going to see Camper Van Beethoven in Philadelphia in January, but I think the show might have been cancelled. I'll have to check on that.

i saw broken social scene last night. bit disappointing. they were really having sound problems- mainly due to the venue. some songs were great then others were painful. not real big on some of their new songs with all the distortion. i guess i'm getting old. they have like 10 people on stage and they were generally having a good time so that was cool.
the best part of the gig was that between the opening band, the most serene republic, and broken social scene, they played 5 frank tunes from black letter days! no shit! did that ever make my night! plus i was wearing my fb&c's devil shirt.

Underground Resistance on Saturday probably played the best concert of my whole life. This year, despite having been to very few concerts, I saw Frank Black, Daniel Johnston and Mad Mike. I could slit my wrists right now, it'll never get any better than this.
