Guitar solos don't necessarily do much for me.

Basically, you're gonna be in Brooklyn, I'm gonna be on Staten Island, which is ironic given that I lived in Brooklyn and you grew up and live closer to Staten Island than to Brooklyn.

sir mike will be on my side i'm pretty sure. c'mon, let's do some real discussion, band vs. band:

Nine Black Alps vs. Lake Trout = Lake who? WINNER: BROOKLYN
Mando Dio vs. The Ordinary Boys = Nothing ordinary about M.D. WINNER: BROOKLYN
Death From Above 1979 vs. Teagan and Sara = Sara (i think) passed out from the heat at Lollapalooza. If its a hot day, your act can't even function. WINNER: BROOKLYN
Rilo Kiley Vs. British Sea Power = BSP wins, even though Rilo Kiley is made up of former children stars. WINNER: STATEN ISLAND
Built to Spill Vs. Interpol = TIE
Gang of Four Vs. New York Dolls = All four original GoFs, 2 original Dolls. WINNER: BROOKLYN
Pixies Vs. Killers = Unless you are smoking crack, WINNER: BROOKLYN

Final Tally:

TIES: 1
STATEN ISLAND: 1
BROOKLYN: 5

Having just seen a gazillion Pixies gigs, I hate to pass up Interpol. Then again, I will be seeing Paul and the boys 2 nights before the Narrows. See my dilemma? It's all down to those two bands.

like i said, Interpol will probably do quite a few more tours. you never know about the Pixies. plus, it may not even be dark when Interpol goes on. for those gothy kids, you NEED it to be dark.

Gothy? I dress more gothy than Carlos D. And I have better hair.

No, you are right. I can't wait to see the lights at their show. Legendary.

i'm very excited for this show. i'm going to get my pixies day tickets tomorrow, and in a few weeks, if not sold out, i MAY splurge for day 2: Beck, Belle and Sebastian, Polyphonic Spree? it sounds awesome, but money is ridiculously tight. fuck the phone bill, i need pixies!

that being said, unless finances loosen up, this may be my last Pixies gig for awhile. i need to spread the wealth to other acts i love.

Whoohooo! I have tickets for a secret gig that are unobtainable (but I have friends in low places) also just bought tickets for Arctic Monkeys, 65 Days of Static and Opeth. Plus I've heard that Pelican are due to tour the UK later this year.

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.

Kiki, go to Brooklyn and shout to Nine Black Alps to dedicate a song to the Star & Garter. It's the club in Manchester where my friends and I go, as well as Nine Black Alps.

Or ask them to play a Longcut song.

Anyway, I agree with Brian, go to Brooklyn. As much as I love Interpol and BSP.

What does my current sig say again? Can I do Pixies on the 1st after I don't know how many nights of silliness?

Brian, time for you to do an intervention.

It shames to admit that I am experiencing heavy-duty buyer's remorse with that Pixies ticket.

Tell me about you and Sir Rockabye and Frank and the band and how THAT is where I belong and not with those pretty boy fashionistas with their swoony songs.

Top 5 Reasons to be in Brooklyn, not Staten Island on October 1, 2005:

1) The chance to hang out with Sir Rockabye and Broken Face, aka Michael and Brian, two enjoyable, nice young men
2) The chance to hear the world's greatest active band who you thought less than 2 years ago you would NEVER GET TO SEE AGAIN
3) The chance to hear the ORIGINAL Gang of Four lineup - c'mon, Entertainment!
4) Brooklyn is your roots Kiki; never forget your roots.
5) The pre/post show beer and pizza will be much better in Brooklyn.

See? You totally made the right move.

Thanks, Brian, but I am beyond help. For each of your five reasons I will post a photo of Paul Banks. Just as soon as I can pick the best five among my stash of his pix. Tough to pick the five best when they're all so purdy.

this week end I went to the festival La Route Du Rock in the beautiful town of St Malo where I saw:

The Wedding Present: good performance, they played old and new songs, it was fun

Yo La Tengo: it started really quietly with new songs and ended with old songs full of noise, feedbacks, rage and energy. Ira Kaplan is a genius.
"push that button motherfucker"

Mercury Rev: a band that I used to love but the show was pretentious, pompous and ridiculous, I sat down during the most part of the set

The National: a really good surprise, the show was intense, the singer and the band have a real charisma on stage

Colder: entertaining

The Raveonettes: another good surprise: intense, efficient, rock 'n 'roll, the new songs are great

The Cure: it started and ended up really good, but they played some boring songs too. The good idea was to make a show without a keyboard player: it was more tensed.
Simon Gallup is one of the most classy-cool bass players of the earth

!!!: I just saw the first half of the set, but it was fun, and groooooovy

Maxïmo Park: entertaining

The Polyphonic Spree: Never ever saw a thing like that before!! it was incredible! THAT was a show!!

Sonic Youth: It was strange, certainly the less good show I saw from them, but they played some great songs like Brother James, Bull In The Heather, Teen Age Riot, Mote or Kool Thing. The sound was awful, and they just played one hour.

Metric: not entertaining

Hey Mike, are you planning a trip to France sometime soon? Cause there's a festival in November in Paris that looks like they took your mix CD and contacted every band on it... First names announced are Artic Monkeys, Nine Black Alps, Hard Fi, The Futureheads, The Rakes, The Go-Team, Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park, Editors, The Organ, Cat Power, Antony & The Johnsons, White Rose Movement, Devendra Banhart & Hairy Fairy, Dionysos, Blood Arms, Alexis HK, Spleen, The Subways, The Infadels, Black Strobe, Joseph d’Anvers, Digitalism, Keith.

Not sure. It's from Nov. 3rd to 9th, in Paris, usually in various venues with 3 or 4 bands each night. I'll wait for the final lineup to appear, for the moment it lacks better-known bands.

I'm going to see Stephen Fretwell at Manchester Academy 3 on 25th September. Some girl asked me along 'cos she had two tickets. I have never heard him in my life, despite him coming from Manchester. Supposed to be good though.

Choice of 2 maybe 3 gigs on Wednesday night - all supposed to be big secrets so it's all down to guest list shennanigans, and then Leed Festival - other than Pixies, just got to decide who I'm going to see out of the rather extensive line up.

Fire made it good.

nice sig nicole - is that a flaming moe's reference?

going to try and see my favorite NYC band, the king of france, next week w/ some bands i've never heard of. its 8 bucks, which is pretty good, but i doubt any of my friends will want to go. then september/october promises the bad plus, the pixies and the new pornographers, arguably my three favorite active bands.
