Brad Pitt-- he is very attactive but he is also a great actor and Katherine Hepburn. Not only is she a great actress, she had a wonderful sense of style and did a lot to help the world. |

They used to show Asphalt Jungle regularly on a Sunday afternoon slot on irish teevee and I´d watch it whenever it was on. I was pleasantly surprised to find it more of a character piece than a crime film.

i'd say Steve Buscemi might be my favorite actor. Maggie Gyllenahal has impressed me in terms of a "recent" actress.

Carolynanna posted a Johnny Depp pic in the other thread and it's one of my fave actors. Pity he played in a lot of crappy movies. As did Chris Walken, by the way.

It's definitely gotta be Kevin Bacon (Footloose) and Michael J. Fox (Teenwolf).

How about the great MICHAEL DOUGLAS. I remember having this discussion a few years back with a few mates where we were trying to think of a bad Michael Douglas movie and couldn't. I'm sure there are some out there (come to think of it that "keeping it in the family" movie he did recently can't be good) but c'mon he is still Mr Charisma!
3rd Annual Australian Frank Black Countdown August 2003 - all involved parties rank EVERY released FB song from FB self/titled to the present - average ranks are calculated - beer (or suitable substitute) is added (mostly in drinking-game form - ie. rate a song well below its average and you drink a punishing amount), then sit back and enjoy a day of frank black....the only problem is quite often memory of the top songs is somewhat limited the next day |

say what you will about Tom Cruise, i thought he was great in MAGNOLIA. and in COLLATERAL.
and Robbin Williams really surprised me in ONE HOUR PHOTO. not that i thought he "sucked" per se, but he had just done so many shitty movies.
same with Adam Sandler in PUNCH DRUNK LOVE
Burt Reynolds in BOOGIE NIGHTS
who else?
jim carrey? hated him in all those 'stupid' comedies (ace ventura), and then along came the truman show. absolutely amazing film and amazing performace... same with eternal sunshine. heck i even love his performance in me, myself and irene, stunning.

Floop, do you have the new Vogue with your girlfriend on the cover?
I love Gene Hackman, the "Me and Julio" part in Royal Tennenbaums is fabulous.

I like Brad Pitt not just because he's good looking. But, because he doesn't feel the need to play the 'cool' guy role all the time. Look at him in Kalifornia for chrissakes. As opposed to someone like Val Kilmer whom I dislike because he always has to play the cool guy with the exception of just a couple flicks.

I don't have any favorites, they're so dependent on the film and the directors.
But Roberto Benigni is like Charlie Chaplin on happy pills. And Toshiro Mifune is wonderful in every Kurosawa film.
I love Katharine Hepburn. "Bringing up Baby" is one of my favorites. Shoot, and Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Everybody in "Glengarry Glen Ross". Jimmy Stewart.
Peter Sellers is one of the best comedic actors. |

Yes! Glengarry Glen Ross! I love that film, and all of the performances are so great. Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, Alan Arkin, Jonathan Pryce... Such a great cast.
Speaking of Alan Arkin, has anyone seen "Last of the Red Hot Lovers"? I love that movie too. "Staid is a very staid word". Genius! |

Glengarry Glen Ross is a brilliant film with perfect acting. I watch it every now and again.
Arkin is incredible in Thirteen Conversations About One Thing as well. I'll have to go searching for Last Of The Red Hot Lovers now.
Good Betty mentioned William H Macey. I loved his acting in Fargo and Magnolia.
Why have Julianne Moore not been mentioned yet? Short Cuts, Far From Heaven, Boogie Nights, End Of The Affair..... all brilliant.

I love William H. Macy, and Fargo always contends for my favourite film. His performance in that movie (along with Frances Mcdormand, and everyone else in it) is so perfect, you never feel you're watching actors. Arkin is the same way, the he plays some version of bascially the same person in most of his roles (that I've seen him in). And speaking of Fargo, I hope the Coen boys approach that level of genius again sometime. |
