The small blurb about Honeycomb on fnac.com had me laughing:
<<Pour ce nouvel album, l'ex-Pixies s'est entouré d'une pléiade de musiciens légendaires de chez Stax. Le son de cet album s'en trouve évidemment métamorphosé et passé l'effet de surprise, on découvre un album d'une richesse insoupçonnable. A noter la participation de Courtney Love sur un titre.>>

Actually, Daisy, you'll be suprised about this... President Bush jogs to Teenage of the Year. Rumor has it: he secretly listens to Honeycomb (in which is his favorite album, by the way). |

I Burn Today goes to radio in two weeks, and feel free to call your local station and request it anytime after the 28th.
No vocal tuning problems on HONEYCOMB, please adjust your ears.
I have not heard that group you wondered about.
Au revoir, Jon |

Hi Jon,
I Burn Today is already getting some good airplay in the UK, for example, BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio Scotland have been playing it a lot, and have been indicating that they will be playing other tracks from the the album when it comes out.

if you are referring to Souled American, check them out ! start with their album FE (from the early 90ies, i think). really, i encourage you (and everbody else) strongly to do so. i think the attitude or feeling of their music is quite similiar to FB. it rocks a lot, altough the sound is mostly acoustic and tempo is very slow. FE reminds me so much of HC, despite that it sounds different. as i said, it is the feeling.
I joined the cult of Souled American / 'cause they are a damn' fine band |

heheh...
Countdown...(East coast time) One month three days!!! :)
Thanks Jon I am definately going to request I burn today starting on the 28th!!! There's really cool Djs on the Current 89.3 (Minneapolis)... one has already said she loves Frank Black & The Pixies... so I'd bet that they will play it if I call in. Another cool station drive 105 also plays Frank Black and the Pixies ... so I will request it there too |

A teeny but thrilling Honeycomb mention in the 6/15/5 Boston Globe review of the previous night's Pixies show:
"Frontman Frank Black, in white linen and sandals, was a model of cool calculation, suggesting that his mind may already be on his forthcoming Americana album, 'Honeycomb,' due out July 19."

i really hope honeycomb does well
there's been talk of a tour being (slightly) dependant on record sales whatever the number of sales folk want to make, i really hope they realise their target |

I keep coming up with fantasies of buying it for all kinds of different people. I think I will have to realistically stop at like 4 copies or so. At least for the first day.

Good news! Last night I dreamed there was an I Burn Today ep, with no less than 4 b-sides! How cool is that?

(FAO FBC and any of the other brits, if tours and the like are to be based on a "buzz" and sales, a buzz about honeycomb there shall be! ten percenter has started a thread up there in general frank black chat about fan promoting of the album and I've dug up a load of links and numbers for Brit radio/ online radio request and contact forms, I for one will be ringing around requesting honeycomb tracks, if one person buys the album because they dig the song they heard on the radio request I made I'll figure it a job well done. When I've finished this stupid essay I'll post the links to the uk radio online request forms and the like, I figure the more interest a station gets the bigger the chance of air play is. Looking through the BBC6/2 playlists though there is a fabulous "I burn today" presence. I've made a nuisance of myself to everyone I know recommending they buy the album already. If you build it.. they will come.....)
(ps. I say brits because those are the only links I have dug up, of course anyone else could call their local radio stations and make requests)

thanks for that kitten. i'm already on the case. been requesting and mailing, and for the last few months have been driving around windows down, honeycomb pumping out my speakers. believe me, the folk here may not know who it is, but they sure have heard it
if a tour depends on sales, then i'll do all i can to help promote it. all i was thinking about earlier was, i'm quite sure fb's even toured his lesser selling records. i was just a little bummed at the thought of no HC tour (which would be one of the best ever) if it doesn't do as well as people want.

yay FBC! I de-bolded that bit, my enthusiasm gets the better of me sometimes. I'm sure it'll do well, I have faith, there's a solid fan base and we're a persuasive bunch, plus the album is quality! We all know it! And I've got my fingers crossed (until it gets uncomfortable) for a tour.

Street teamers, we love ya!
Radio won't get it for another two weeks or so---I believe June 28th is the date---so hold your thoughts until then.
There are no dates yet booked, it is greatly dependent on the reception to the record. FB doesn't want to go out and play these songs without the band on the record, or a fair representation of same, so let us cross fingers and do our best to make HONEYCOMB the record on everyone's mind, lips and ears.
Thank you for your participation.
bye, Jon |

Jon, what can those of us in the States do to promote the album, when radio playlists are dictated by computers and focus groups? How can we help Stateside?

great question, Kathryn...
can we write code and upload the album to the station's computers and hack their playlist to loop it 24/7 and lock out all other users? ( i was going down the wargames path here, but i'll stop)... |

Seriously, we are deep in Clear Channel Land here. I can think of one indie station within hundreds of miles of where I live and the signal's weak. So should we focus on college radio or what?
