Is anyone even gonna touch this?
Maybe it should have been here: http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10146
Seriously, I do every once in a while. Playing high is fun sometimes, but I get too jam-bandy and start making all kinds of half-assed attempts to emulate Trey or Jerry...I have a great time but I sound like an idiot.

I used to like it. I used to be smart, also. One day, back when I used to smoke, I spied on my bookshelf an old copy of Moby Dick, a book I had never read before. I picked it up, read for about seven pages, and became incredibly bored. Putting it down, I found the television remote control, popped on Mtv, and began to watch an episode of Jackass, a program I had always hated, and proceeded to laugh my ass off. And I was not high at the time. This bothered me more then a bit. Actually, it freaked me out. I remember thinking, 'I used to be smart but now I'm dumb', like bill macy in magnolia. I made an assumption as to the cause of this and after that, pot never much interested me again. I still smoke, very, very rarely, when at big parties with friends, but more often then not I decline. Its been three years now, and I just found out that I can now read and enjoy Moby Dick, having just finished it three weeks ago. It was very good.
Some people claim that there are no real ill effects of marijuana, but even they must admit that there exist the word 'burnout' for a reason. But it does feel great, doesn't it? |

Any long term smokers here that have any real negative things to report back in hindsight? |

Not by far my fave drug. I use to grow some plants in my house, but only for recreational purposes.

I've done it on a regular basis for many years now - no intention of giving up and I have the memory of an elephant (am in fact the active memory for 2 of my buddies who don't use it at all!) I use it like most people use alchohol and prefer it to alchohol. I do believe that you need to be careful with it though and I do have certain rules that I have to apply to myself - after 9 on a "school night" unless I want to feel like someone replaced my brain with cotton wool the next morning. As for not falling into the habit of chilling out on the sofa and doing fuck all (though chilling out and doing fuck all has both it's time and place) - all it takes is a little bit of discipline (ooh gotta love that)! |

heh heh, I'm sure I mentioned it before but the last time I took a smoke, I had three drags when the world started to head into slow motion, it got so slow I felt like I was moving in treacle, walking was like walking in the swimming pool, eventualy it slowed down so far I was stuck, literally stuck, this guy had to pull me into a car drive me round to our mutual friends and find somewhere to lie me down until I could move again, four hours it took. In those foor hours I heard thing if I shut my eyes and saw things when I opened them, I was paranoid and frightened because everything was so heavy.

I will admit to "felling" a rock star this last weekend - supplied him with a rather potent joint and watched him go from standing to sprawled on the floor in a matter of minutes - he is now very scared of English weed (and he's the party animal of the band and no stranger to a large variety of narcotics!) |

I think alcohol is much more destructive and dangerous than pot. Just my opinion of course.

I smoke marijuana pretty much daily. Have been doing so since I was 16 or 17, and i'm 24 now.
I like it a lot (obviously), but it has taken a toll upon my short term memory (though that is a reversible effect if one were to quit.) It also takes a little more effort to stay motivated day to day (some days are harder than others...) I could see definite benefits to quitting/severely cutting down at some point. But I also enjoy it a great deal and know plenty of friends who don't smoke at all and still can't remember jack-shit and are lazy as all hell.
Nowadays I've been pretty busy though, so my pot consumption has exponentially lessened. Which is good.

Used to smoke regularly, don't do it as much as I'd like to nowadays, have to agree with everyone saying it's less destructive than alcohol,I'd much rather just sit and have a few spliffs than go and get absolutely rat arsed. Can't say I've ever had a bad experience with it.The worst thing about it,I'd say is the title it's given.Drugs.And we all know that drug users are all bad people.

I used to try some few years ago, but I didn't enjoyed it that much. I only had a good laugh once. In fact none of my friends use marijuana and I have allways found sad parties with only pot smokers. I preffer drinking by far:it's authorized, it taste good (wine, beer,...),your money does not go to some mobster, you pay taxes, VAT... Alcohol is dangerous, you've got to be careful.

Yeah that's another thing actually,if it were to be legalised, can you imagine the amount of tax the UK Govt. would pile on it? Not that it will get legalised any time soon.

Legalised marijuana wouldn't interrest me much than today but I'm pro legalisation. Not just authorize smoking, but selling it in licenced stores would be better. Mobster are against full legalisation.

are we on about ganja or other class a's? most of the pot dealers i've come across are either friends who have day jobs, at uni, or friend of friends who are just like one of the crowd. i.ve never met a dealer i would ever say resembles a "mobster".
in my experience its when you go after the coke, then it seems to turn a bit darker. but thats because of the money and risks involved.

Yup, I'd much rather meet someone in a dark alley who's smoked pot than a drunk. What are they going to do? Eat me??? ;)

I'm not talking about the average pot dealer. Who's got the money to bring 100 kilos of hash from marocco every month? Who knows the producers? who's the guy that sells to the guy that sells to the guy who sells you pot? what is he gonna do if he don't get his monet back? Is he gonna see the police or will he sue you on a commercial trial? I guess he's gonna break your legs or cut a finger or take your car. So what do you call it?

Plus I would feel bad if my dealer would go to jail just for my little pleasure.

I think the user is responsible for the means it took to get to market. If, in America, you are buying something that has been carried across the rio grande or smuggled some other way, you are supporting a crime syndicate.
If you get it from someone who grows grade-a and sells to 10 or 15 of his friends, or if you 'homebrew', then people and gov't need to leave you and your friends alone. |

I think it's a personality enhancer, if you're a slacker who's heading no where fast it'll just push you their quicker, I have no problems with it at all
[edit] that made little sense, I know waster stoners and I know chilled out cool stoners, I don't care if anyone smokes all not, just as long as they keep the window open so I don't vomit

I like it sometimes because I seem to think of things that I have never thought of before, or look at things in a different way. I keep thinking I gotta write some of it down sometimes. I'm never sure of I'm genius or just plain stupid ;)

I have some pretty scary stories about my experiences with the pot.
Barbados isn't as lenient with marijuana offences as Canada is. I remember we( a couple of friends and I ) had parked just down the road from this tree house in the middle of a field surrounded by scattered houses. No one really around. So we ventured into the tree house and proceeded to smoke the ganj and play guitar. I suppose one of the neighbours could hear us and called the cops. So there we are in the tree house, and suddenly we realize (and this is quite a trip when you're all hopped up on the pot) that the entire tree house was surrounded by cops and the task-force with AK's and machine guns pointed at us. There was about 15 of them...that I could see. So they end up searching the tree house and each of us for any "evidence". Thank god they didn't check the guitar case. That was fuckin crazy.
Other than the fuzz...the only other problems in Barbados are the crabs... ACTUAL crabs... They are always tryin to snatch your crops.
I have many stories I'd love to share, if only I could remember them in enough detail.
I don't really smoke too much anymore...just for concerts or sometimes with a friend or two.
And what the hell have I learned? |
